how can you explain the incredible fortune of your brother sebastian pinera?, because you crash our national industries, you privatize everything (even the air) and your brother bought everything for nothing
Thank you for your excellent posts, he reminds me of the opportunists of the Nazi era: Krupps and Flicks who made fortunes under the Nazis(although, unlike Pinera, they lost their businesses at the end of the 2nd world war).
Pinera is a criminal and should be treated as such!

We need to do this, the camps and the pro-market reforms. Just don't ever legalize the commies or let them back into the colleges. We also have to deport the brown people.
The AFPs system have been the best pension sistem in the world. you get what you save in your "work life"(tenure) and haven't been the cause of a economic crash. In fact if Obama do the afp system pension in USA economy would help a lot to the usa's economy and world's economy. do that would have that obama doesn't print dollars like a crazy man putting in risk the global economy and would help to keep deficit of debt
It is easy to make changes in the economical system during a dictatorship, with oppresion and censure of in the medias, without consititution...live to the democracy!!
The point is that none of Piñeras reforms had anything to do with Chile being the first producer of copper in the world; it already was before the dictatorship. There is nothing wrong with capital investment as long as it provides the investor with a fair return. In Chile, you are mandated to handover 10% of your income to investment firms and pay for their services a 25 to 30% commission and in return 50% of the people will get nothing.
This interview, like all of Pineras public appearances is clearly staged where the interviewer (Mr. Thomas Gur) does nothing but constantly lead the witness and feed him soft balls to allow him to portray himself as a saint and savior of freedom and humanity.
To claim that Chile is the worlds major producer of copper thanks to his reforms is so ludicrous that one can not help but laugh. Copper is a natural resource found, by mere accident of nature, mostly in Chiles soil and very few other countries, it is not a manufactured product. Its like claiming that all the oil in the Middle East is there because of the good work of the ayatollahs, sheiks and tyrants that happen to rule those countries.
@apango2000 I'm afraid you have no idea of what your talking about. Possessing a natural resource is not merely enough. You need capital investment, access or development of technologies, human intellectual capital to extract and refine safely, access to global markets, system of property rights, diplomatic recognition.
E.g Iraq under Saddam and Saudi Arabia; both with large deposits of oil yet vastly different fortunes.
To claim as his the idea of improving the health and education of the young is also absurd. The policy of providing free milk to every child in Chile was implemented during the Allende government, during Pinochets regime the average calorie intake per person went down significantly, and during this 17 year dictatorial regime not a single public school or public clinic was opened
To claim that there was freedom for organized labor in a regime that in 1982 ordered the assassination of the leader of the main Chilean labor union and then tried to cover that murder by extracting a confession by torturing to death an innocent bystander is the ultimate in cynicism.

The "agenda" of apango2000 is to discredit the Chilean miracle resorting to the big lies that are in the DNA of a neocommunist like him.
And he makes ad hominem attacks on Pinera without using his real name. What a miserable coward!
Poor fellow, without a life and full of hate.

Thanks for reporting the facts.
This man is simply a vile human being who deserves to be thrown into prison along with PInochets tortures and assassins.

other examples are Japan/Singapore (very rich countries with very scarce natural resources) and Russia/Ukraine
(poor countries with abundant natural resources)
