I thought about that when it happened but it could be intentional. The French could have launched a guided missile from the Kuru airbase in Fr. Guyana not too far awayj ust when the plane reached the North coast of S.Am so missile travelled over sea, not land. The motive, all I could find is the descendant of a royal family (Braganza) was in the plane and could have caused political problems but I didn't look into it. There was a team of scientists on board too.

actually, its extremely easy to lose an airplane. from the airplane all you to do is turn off the transponder from the plane, and from the ground radar, the airplane becomes unidentified and some radars might still pick up the plane, but no one can recognize it. in other places, the plane will completely dissappear and can only be found under primitive radar, but again it cannot be identified.

and if it was an electrical short, maybe the did transponder shut down. but we'll have to wait n see
