I agree with jvrlopez. A band doing a cover is not obligated to make their version sound exactly like the original. A cover is a reinterpretation of a song, not simply an effort to replicate it. I have thought that this song could also be slowed down and sung more as a ballad.

I not being critical of this group, but of N'Sync. If you notice N'Snyc vocals were starting to crack when singing with the normal voice. Falsetto can be held even within a persons octive range. Try singing in a lower octive.
