I was at this show. I remember that we thought everyone there were posers just getting on the REM bandwagon, as they just started to get popular. The fieldhouse was set up that night with folding metal chairs, and soon, all the chairs just were passed into a giant pile in the middle of the floor so everyone could dance...Thanks for posting this!
I was there! Camped out outside the fieldhouse to get tix--8th row in front of pete buck. Had ringing in my ears the next day in german class- awesome. Thanks for posting.
This is fantastic! I went to NIU from '82 to '88 (BA, MA - I wasn't just being a slacker) and R.E.M. came to DeKalb in '84 and '86. I didn't get to this show, which I think was in the Fieldhouse, but I was at the show in the Egyptian in '84. Hands down the best rock concert I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them in my years! Great show, great memories, great period in my life... Thanks for posting REMchout.
I did that tape warble. Tape's got its own charm.

A gorgeous song, simply gorgeous. My favorite moment on Murmur.
I remember singing along to this chorus, loud as hell, driving around L.A. with the windows up after a terrible bitter breakup in the mid-90s.
It helped.

I kind of forgot how they used to play with hardly any light-especially compared to now.
