I'm a tennis coach and you can stand any kid on a court and feed them forehands only and they'll get some over, and I play tennis 4 times a week and was a lot better than that when I was 8. he's not even moving to them!
i bet every one of you cant hit a ball like that cause you guys are just sitting here watching a video of an 8 year old instead of going outside and doing some activity so get of your butts and start doing exercise like me in the video.

well he gets a good bite on the ball. truthfully i think learning to slice is more important. its the shot that really changes the pace of a game if both player are tied up. i myself forced myself to slice all of my highschool tennis years. i suffered alot of defeats but in the end i am able to hit the top a the net on will on average 7 out of ten times, good way to totally throw off pace and win points. slicing is very unique and require delicate forms and teaches you have good form in general.
he's doing ok for an 8 yr old but as others have said, zero footwork... and no wonder - every ball was hit at him at the same pace and the same height. pitch a few in at his toes, then his body, then 3 metres either side of him to make him move. he clearly has an interest but bad habits start now. dont make it easy for him to develop them. good luck kid!
@TheJwaffle Very true.... I coach my son (6) and daughter (5) and its about the technique, bend and use your knees, finish the swing high, don't drop the shoulders, don't swing with your arm but your body, the arm only snaps for control and manipulation of the ball, beyond that the power and stamina is found in the legs, torso, knees, thighs and sternum :-)

he needs to be able to move at a high level, but his groundstrokes aren't bad for his age.

At what point did it seem like a good idea to collect the balls?

that's no Rafa forehand..Rafa finishes up high. I'd make that kid run for the balls...

I lol'd at the guy ducking whilst picking up the balls!
georgeboardman 1 year ago 8
he uses no legs on his forehand, its all the arm swinging
the backhand is finishing too low, and theres a tendency to not move his feet and just lunge at the ball...
if you cant teach the kid the right technique then hes not going to be good at all
