  • just great

  • I think Eleanor Powell, who fought so much for equality, and was a truly good lady, would hate to see the arguments going on here about white and black tap dancers. Personally I think Ellie is the best, but not because of skin color. I wish people could just look at her talent and take it for what it is, TRUE talent, without adding unneeded comments about skin color.

  • Maravilhosa!!!

  • why are u talking about colour? xD who cares about colour of skin? she's just great and the best

talent is talent, u don't need to be black or white to have it, she just have it and I love her =D

    Ps: i'm black hahah

  • Wow. I thought I was watching Eleanor Powell because she's an awesome dancer, not because I'm making a commentary on racial supremacy. The lot of you oughta be ashamed.

  • @crazydaysful But i do agree with you that black people invented it in the first place . To be honest i think they are all good as each other in there own way.

  • @happiihoneii Evereybody knows about Juba and the coins screwed to the bottoms of his boots. Black people are as good as whites in tap dancing and about everything else; but no one race "invented" tap dancing. It popped up among white brewery workers and black plantation slaves alike. Every race or culture added their own twist to it, including the "horrible" Steve Condos, LOL.

  • @Yehudi True True

  • @Yehudi - you are a jealous thief. you love that blogger "happihoneli" who has that slave mentality idiot telling that lie that Eleanor is the best dancer. You whites are not good tap dancers like the good blacks and you never will be,YOU HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CREATION OF IT! So get over your weakness in talent and your white need to copy blacks of just about all we do because in truth we are the best in many things and Tap dancing (which blacks CREATED) is one of them!

  • @crazydaysful 'Ever heard of Louie Dapron? Last time I checked he was white; and he taught Fred Astaire to tap. I personally witnessed Dapron's floating 1" off the floor while traveling like a bullet, laying down taps like a GE minigun! This man worked with all the great movie tappers of the 30's and 40's; and yet he was still going strong 50 years later! I'm not saying black folks can't tap...they just had to take their lessons from the great white masters. (including Haney in 1925!)

  • @Yehudi - yeah keep on telling your stupid white deceived lies because you are going no where with them anyway. "White people teaching blacks lessons on how to tap" -- HA, What a joke!

  • @crazydaysful Haney, a white man from Gary, Indiana, INVENTED metal dance taps in 1925. Before that you had to make your own from hardwood, like the slaves on the plantations or Bill Robinson did. Check it out in the archives of Dance Magazine. It's the same as with the American Indians, who couldn't invent the wheel after watching thousands of them roll across the prairies! Just look at Obama, the second black President...what a loser he is! Clinton was the first; and he was a success.

  • @Yehudi - your jealous self, white people wrote those magazines you are talking about and are always lying that they came up with something and invented stuff and they are able to tell the lie openly because they stole everything from black america and own the businesses. Blacks came up with the ideas and the whites were able to make most of the money off it. Clinton destroyed america just like you whites do and gave our money and power to poverty asia and other countries. You are evil

  • @crazydaysful

"Traveling 'round this big old world

    Lots of things seem funny

    Black man picks the cotton

    White man gets the money"

(Bob Wills, "Take Me Back to Tulsa")

But Prof. Walter Williams, a Black economist, says he's happy his people were chosen as slaves. Otherwise he'd be in Africa, getting eaten by lions! I don't know if he can tap; but he can sure entertain with his thoughts on the radio. Rush is much better when Williams subs for him.

  • @crazydaysful It is regrettable, but so many Blacks are in prison for their bad behavior. They can't lift their people up from there. Of the Black kids I went to school with in the 60's, most are already dead. I'm 61 and no longer tapping with my beautuiful "harem" of hot ladies; but I'm a long way from dead. Whites, except for a few true racists, are not the enemies of the Blacks. It is dope and crime. Remember the opening scene in "Tap", with Greg Hines in a jail cell?

  • The best ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What the fuck is this ignorant sheboon crazydaysful ooking and eeking about. Doesn't this subhuman groid understand how inferior it is to the White Man?

  • Wow, to good what a talent

  • WOW!!!

  • You won't see anyone tap like that today. She was the absolute best!

  • @crazydaysful I've spent many years in tap classes learning single and double wings; Maxie Ford turns, etc; so I appreciate the complexity of tap. As I am not a natural dancer ('love the girls who are!), I have drifted into making tap shoes and taps as they were in the early 50's, when the market was full of tap toys. The Nicholas Brothers; Bill Robinson, Greg Hines, etc. were in the very same league as Eleanor Powell; they just didn't wear high heels and fishnet tights.

  • @crazydaysful

There was no TV when Eleanor Powell learned to tap...only in the fading days of her career, which ended at 69 due to cancer. This vid is not the best example of her tap virtuosity, which eclipsed ALL other hoofers of her time. Another famous cracker, Ann Miller, was sexier than Ellie, but she could never dance as well. Maybe Blacks just didn't show up on early TV...you know, just eyes and teeth and stuff. The Nicholas Bros were probably busy shining Ellie's tap shoes.

  • @crazydaysful Broadcast TV didn't get really started until after WW-2. Ellie made her most famous movie, "Sensations", in 1945, when she was in her mid-30's. TV was not a household word for another 5 to10 yrs. Ellie did some "comeback" appearances on shows like "Hollywood Palace" in the 60's; but she wasn't the dancer she was in the 40's. But tap knows no racial boundaries. You black folks have a complex about slamming everything white, including E.P. You'd "love" Steve Condos, LOL.

  • @crazydaysful You misunderstand! Steve Condos was a horrible tapper, except for his fast footwork. Even Greg Hines said he sucked at tap. He laid down 32nd notes at 1120/min; but he had no style. Therefore, he'd be a perfect tapping cracker for you to insult; even though he died onstage in France. Tap emerged from all over the world; no one race invented it. We see more tappin' crackers because the US is only 13% black; and those taps complement the sound of the whip, LOL.

  • @crazydaysful You just want a tall, white, red-headed dominatrix woman in black leather and thigh-high tap boots to work your black ass over! 'do a triple-buck timestep on your butt and backside...right? ('sounds like fun to me!) Remember: "Black is beautiful; tan is grand...but WHITE is the color of the big boss man", or woman, in this case! 'Best tap teacher I ever had was a slender, WHITE, Jewish girl about 30 who could dance like a Texas tornado!

  • @crazydaysful WRONG!, O Nubian god of tap dancing! I was born in Corsicana, TX, land of rednecks; and I learned to tap because I was exposed to it in kindergarten. Some older women of 5 or so caught my fancy with their flashy, noisy shoes. Although Churchill's villa in the Virgin Islands sounds like a great place to be locked up with a goddess like Ann Miller for a week! Another fine, WHITE, Texas tapgirl...good as Paula Abdul or Lady Di, right?

  • @Yehudi No white isn't the big boss man or whatever. Black people are just as good as white people. Remember BLACK people did invent tap dancing. Go look if you believe me.

  • @crazydaysful I think she's the best and i'm black. And i've seen all those other black dancers like Bill Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers and i think they are fantastic tap dancers. And you can like whoever you want no matter what colour they are........

  • @happiihoneii - you think she is the best and you claim to be black -- you are a damn mental retardo. You have no brain and you don't know a thing about dancing and you are a total fool if you think that woman is better than the Nicolas brothers. You are a horrible retard!

  • @crazydaysful why am i a mental retardo because i like someone who can tap dance just as good as the nicolas brothers??

  • @happiihoneii - you are a mental retardo just for askin that stupid question why I say you are a mental retardo for saying that Eleanor is just as good as the Nicholas Brothers ....only a fool would ask such question. Go get a brain and some intelligence and stop lying and kissing up to jealous theiving white people who are jealous because blacks created the best things and they didn't and they will learn some stuff and then say they are the best at it and try to steal it.

  • @crazydaysful I'm not kissing up and i'm not lying. Eleanor is an excellent dancer! Anyone can see that. Tap dancing is tap dancing anyone is allowed to learn it. And how do you know white people are jelous?

  • @happiihoneii - if you are black you must be half white and black because ones like you are so stupid and you are not greatly aware and do not care much of black culture. Your site says you are 15 years old and if this is true you have a lot to learn and you need glasses to see the BEST tap dancing. You must have never seen the Nicholas brothers or the others for you to say this woman is as good as them because she is not! What State are you in and what are you doing up so late.

  • @crazydaysful i'm black but i have no white in me and i do care about black culture alot. But i still think she's a good tap dancer. She can dance. i dont live in america by the way....

  • @happiihoneii - since you say you are black, I figured there must be a problem somewhere and now I know because you are from another country and that is the problem with your knowledge of American black stuff. I never said that woman Eleanor could not dance because she can BUT she is not the best tap dancer. Have you ever saw Gregory Hines or the Nicholas brothers tap? Check them out and then you will see that these tap dancers are much greater than Eleanor. See for yourself.

  • @crazydaysful Maybe she's not the best in the world or maybe not to you but i still think she is to me

  • @happiihoneii - you think she is the best because you are an idiot and a liar and you are evil and you are not an American - most foreigners are very dumb that's why most of you foreign people since the 1800's had to and still do run to America for the better life our forefathers built.

  • @crazydaysful i'm not an idiot and i'm not lying. I don't have to be american to like someone. You're foreign to me so you're stupid.

  • @happiihoneii I also think she is the best and im white. a talent and from an era that we will never see again.

  • @critchley3819

Take a look at her dancing with Fred Astaire to Begin The Beguine.

Try to see the High Def. version.

Now that's dancing at it's absolute best.

  • Thank you for posting.

  • I agree, the greatest.

  • I never realixed how great a dancer she was until I saw her in a Fred Astaire movie on TCM.. Since then I cant seem to get enough of her talents. She just may have been the greatest female dancer of the all.

  • No doubt about it in my opinion!

  • I wouldn't get too carried away. Maya Plisetskaya and Galina Ulanova were good dancers also, and definitely in this league.

  • Eleanor Powell appeared in this film. "Thousands Cheered" after she had been released by MGM, but was invited back to perform it. This was the only time she appeared in color except for a cameo in "The Duchess of Idaho" in 1950, where she performed a similar dance. Even though this wasn't one of her more "spectacular " performances, its simplicity belies the difficulty of the dance and her tremendous ability to perform it. She is considered to be the greatest female dancer in movies.

  • Well, it was OK, I guess, but nothing special.

The shocking buzz on the soundtrack didn't help:-(

  • what a performer!!!

  • Wow, she was great! I've never seen her before, I'll def. ave to research her more.

  • simply beyond belief!!!

  • 素敵っ! amazing! Beautiful!

  • Thanks soooo much for the high quality clip. The soldier says it all!

  • I believe this clip is from the 1943 movie, "Thousands Cheer", made to entertain the troops.

  • This is talent on a genuis level.

  • Toda linda, Eleanor Powell! Um amor incondicional!

  • what a dancer!!!
