Whether they understand the corruption in the war or not, many join to serve their country. While the war may not exactly be "serving" anyone, that is why they join. The video description says this alleged abuse took place on the first day of Eid al-Adha, the muslim "Festival of Sacrifice" as per wikipedia. The soldiers were striking the goat on the head with the bat, one of the more humane ways of dispatching an animal. The onlookers seemed to be supportive. This could have been nothing more than harvesting an animal which routinely takes place in barns throughout our country. Are we sure we know what we are looking at in this video?

Contrary to popular American views, I support sacrifices made during Islamic holy days, such as Eid. I grew up with Muslim friends in America, and I can say that most devout, true Muslims in Arab countries highly value the animals they are sacrificing and do it in the most humane way their religion allows.

Whether they understand the corruption in the war or not, many join to serve their country. While the war may not exactly be "serving" anyone, that is why they join. They want to be a part of a good cause, which is not so good. Many of them join because they aren't college material, as bad as that sounds. They go out there to support their families. Why is he the only one (besides the kid) in streetclothes? He may be a private contractor. He may be a local and possibly owner of the goat for all we know. The hala way (knife to throat) is much worse. I think the idea might had been to stun the animal with ONE hard strike, much like a cattle gun. Now in regards to the man's clothing, there is nothing against civilian clothes, according to the DoD, as long as they meet certain criteria. So who he is exactly, is rather hard to distinguish. But, I do believe there is more to this allegation than what's being presented, considering this video has been edited.

Not if done properly with a single strike; there's a reason why stunning is the method performed in slaughter houses. And cutting the throat is anything but pleasant, the animal SLOWLY dies from bleeding out if it doesn't drown in its own blood first. There are videos around that demonstrate halal procedure but be warned, it's graphic.

The video description says this alleged abuse took place on the first day of Eid al-Adha, the muslim "Festival of Sacrifice" as per wikipedia. The soldiers were striking the goat on the head with the bat, one of the more humane ways of dispatching an animal. The onlookers seemed to be supportive. This could have been nothing more than harvesting an animal which routinely takes place in barns throughout our country. Are we sure we know what we are looking at in this video?

Contrary to popular American views, I support sacrifices made during Islamic holy days, such as Eid. I grew up with Muslim friends in America, and I can say that most devout, true Muslims in Arab countries highly value the animals they are sacrificing and do it in the most humane way their religion allows.
The videos on youtube do not represent the vast majority of sacrifices made by the Muslim people; they are horrible and will cause a reaction, which is why they are publicized.
