Hi, i have bought a white keys Olympia SM9 with german keyboard and case for $5,- at the junk store yesterday? Would you say that's a rip-off or a good deal?
I had one of these growing up. The button to release the cartridge is on the right side underneath the cartridge exit. You'd push it with your finger tips and it would eject the cartridge into your palm.
Cool, its always nice to hear from former owners, its a real quality machine although it is hard to find the cassette ribbons now a days. Thanks, I didn't know about that button until you said something. Thanks for watching!
Its great you still have yours, most people have just disgarded them for newer technology. I still prefer the look of something that has been type written.- Thanks for watching!
........Dr. Scat stunk to high heaven but it sure cleaned the hammers in just a few seconds. Liquid Paper, chalky correction tape, and typing stencils would dirty the hammers after a while. I was a little possessive of my typewriters, too. I didn't like for anyone else at work to use it, especially if they wanted to readjust the settings to suit themselves. I had a Silver Reed typewriter with a ball after the hammer ones, then my last one was a Brother daisy wheel. Then the computer.
Nice little typewriter, easy ribbon changeout. I started out with manual typewriters, and the electrics afterwards were such luxury to me. The first few I used had spool to spool fabric ribbons that lasted a good long while, unlike carbon cartridges that when they run out, that's it! Those have to be changed immediately but the fabric ribbons would rewind endlessly. I remember cleaning the hammers with something called "Dr. Scat".
I have a brother typewriter that is I think powered by a transmission. I had to replace the belt on it because o wear. That's the down fall of those old ones. I also have an
As I tell everyone, you are talking to the biggest IBM Selectric fan ever, what kind do you have? I agree the belts do pose a problem as the machines age- although I have an early S.C. Sterling (which there is also a video of) that just uses finger power to type- no motors.
