  • one las bit of randomness: the zombies of ulyoath have holes where there genitals should be, xelethoth's is too decayed for it, but what about chuturga's? they are as preserved and fresh as us, yet they do not drip with blood, nor do we see any indication of it. yet in one of the pictures, it seems to be laughing as it's organs are pulled from its form

  • @HopeAngel777 and the dancing zombie of xeletoth lol

  • Good Lord, as many times as I played this game over the years, I had no clue about this. I think it's because I always hated doing the autopsies would just hurry and do them to get them out of the way and never looked back. I never even bothered returning to that part of the Tome after I did them.

  • Everytime you examine this in Max's chapter does it slowly drive your sanity meter lower? Because it sounds like it does.

  • I've DANNIT

  • Looks like Porkins is hamming it out there.

  • Am I missing it, or you don't have autopsy for the trapper? Well, it's kinda hard to get, because there's only one in Max's chapter, and you can only kill it with the Flintstock.

  • @Krisipoke Nah, I didn't get the Trapper, as I didn't know you could autopsy them before they disappeared. There might be a link to it in part 2 of the video.

  • Holy damn, Porkins can really act.

    That's craaaazy shit.

  • The thing i really loved about Max' autopsies, is that during his episode, once you autopsy a monster and look it up, you don't hear him comment at all, but you do hear his comments on later episodes.

I interpert it as him being awestruck during his little adventure in the mansion, and his later comments about the monsters are from a later time when he tries to explain others what he has been through.

  • I want to see a sequel to this game along with an HD remake.

  • @Khaosreign Couldn't agree more, Silicon Knights should really make one.

  • I have 2 things to recommend to people who liked Eternal Darkness:

    H.P. Lovecraft

    Zdzislaw Beksinski

  • @6Sepulnation6 Could not agree More,

    Amazing Writer

    Stunning Artist

  • Max's voice actor has a real damn knack for sounding like a lunatic.

  • So. What's this game about and is it good enough to buy?

  • @DeadiestCatch O it's definitively worth buying, it's one of the most well crafted games ever.

Without spoiling to much (as there are several mystery elements to the story) I can say that it is an H.P: Lovecraft inspired story that spans 2000 years, and it is scary as hell.

  • The voice actor for Max was a damn genius!

  • Awesome game

  • I wonder why the Xelototh Zombies have boobies in their autopsy, but not in game.

  • @tourniquette1988 You have a good eye for mummified boobs. I never noticed them until just now. Nice work.

  • @moseslmpg the X bonethieves have boobs too.

  • @tourniquette1988 Dunno, maybe old Maxie was into some mummy nudity and he wanted to draw his fantasies?

  • I wish I could get these as a ring tone. These are just transcendently awesome :)

    H.P would be proud!

  • @bloodrunsclear You could record them from the video and set them up as a ringtone. Or if you have an older phone, there are programs that can change sound files into ringtone files and send them to you online.

  • I thought the double '?!?!' was as good as it gets, even with the description being of the common Mantorok zombie.

And then the voice actor got to the "And hungry?!" part, and it was heaven.

  • Skräckens Labyrinter inläst av Ernst Hugo Järegård. Exakt samma känsla. Något för alla svenska Lovecraft-fans.

  • @meowlaise Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn right back at you.

I think you're saying something about Ernst Hugo Jaregard, maybe that he has a similar style to Lovecraft for all the swedish(?) fans out there. But I don't know...

  • @moseslmpg Almost! :) He wasn't a writer though, but an actor. He was well known for his... shall we say, over-the-top deliveries. He has read some Lovecraft audiobooks, which are frankly a joy to listen to.

For a sample of his interesting acting style: watch?v=xBcJZ3-cJKc

  • RED 6 STANDING BY

  • Didn't you use to post on the ED IGN boards? With that Teen Hunger Force icon?

Anyway loving the video, Max is my favourite character from the game.

  • @JallenMeodia

Yeah, that's me. I actually linked my YT account on the board a while back. I still have the same icon but I mainly post at my home forum of DMC.

  • Did somebody order...A LARGE HAM?!

  • @flamingemu

How exactly is one meant to act in such a situation? Certainly, some of us, such as myself, tend toward silence, in recognition that no words can fully capture the elegance and horror of the world. But it is conceivable that others are subject to ravings and almost supra-logical delirium, grasping at some desperate but foolish hope of repairing a world shattered by that same elegance and horror. I'd say this is more interesting than listening to someone driven made beyond words.

  • Who would've thought Porkins had such a range? Shame he's gone now.

  • Thumbs up if you wanna give it up to whoever this voice actor is...amazing job.

  • @demboys18 Wasn't it the fat pilot from A New Hope and the detective from Batman (The Michael Keaton one)?

  • @Ulron1 Don't know, but I'm gonna find out...

  • @ZeldaDD lol yeah the dudes awesome

  • I could listen to Dr.Roivas for rant for days :D

  • @sneakyturtle100 Haha, I'm going to assume that was why they had him record audio for the autopsies. They knew he was great at this. lol

  • Back in the day, when voice acting meant something, there was a game called Eternal Darkness.

  • BILL HOOTKINS.

  • This game had such great voice acting, the actor sounds extremely convincing and gives any resident evil game a run for its money.

  • Dun dun...

  • The guy who plays Maximilian Roivas really plays the part of a man pushed far too far by a lurking horror. His narratives in the autopsies really have a psychotic edge to them and it really adds to the experience. Outstanding!

  • he missed the trapper autopsy

  • @AlienZombieGuinea

Oh brother. I know, I'll add it to the description from now on.

  • @moseslmpg

NVM, Trapper video has been removed.

  • @moseslmpg True, but whyyyy?

  • Fantastic voice work.

  • Haaaaaaaam, lol. Still love this game

  • Every time that I hear Max Autopsys, I close my eyes and my heart start beating very quickly without control and I feel chills in my spine.

This is true poetry of the insannity and horror.

  • Epic voice acting!

  • So, I was given a heads-up to this because I watched some JG Ballard stuff?

  • @Wanderlustus

I don't know what eldritch horror has to do with JG Ballard.

  • Love the drawings Max made of the creatures.

  • I know...

    I've done it...

    It...works...

  • Reminds me of when I was younger and my brother would stay up late playing this all night and I'd sit and watch him the whole time.

    Really nostalgic.

  • Poor Max.. snapped like a dry twig.. He's got to be my favorites of the protagonists

  • Hideous creatures that wear skins as we wear clothes...

  • What A Great Game ! I was just 12 and I almost wetted my pants ^^ Thank God They Made No German Synchronization So I Could Enjoy Max's Voice.

  • if this is downloadable on the wii im defintely buying this it worth playing again.

  • He has a good reason to sound insane.

  • THEY LUST FOR FLESH!

  • HUMAN flesh! And feast on all the sweetbreads a man has to offer...

    ...AND HUNGRY!

Sorry, I thought this one was funny x3

  • And feast upon all the sweetbreads a man has to offer!

Best keep those Mantorok Zombies away from the bakery then... *MAYTHERATSEATYOUREYES*

  • sweet ;)

  • it is so scaring and funny... i never get bored to ear it!

  • every time i play, it's still creepy and fun! but my game deletes it's self after 5 weeks...i beat it at least 10 times already!

  • THIS IS REAL , YOU KNOW THAT

  • Only the Monsters are worse than what is said by sir Max here. They are the true filth and Ilk of our world, because they are us. They walk among us corrupting us, but they are not controlled by demonry but instead do wicked on their own.

Truly vile and vicious things we are.

  • thats humanity for you XD

  • Max, I hate to say this...

But you are a hazard for Ham Overdose.

  • it sucks u never get the bio of the vampire-type monster =\ would have been awesome to get some more audio from max =0

  • imagine him making an autopsy at the black guardian...he has already freaked out after analyzing this ones, if he did it to the black guardian he would have a heart attack for sure.

  • One of the best voice acts in gaming?

  • I've played this game for years, and even now I still get a few surprises now and then when I play it. Like just on my last playthrough, you know the portrait in the Roivas estate that changes into a hellish landscape when you are low in sanity? I just found out that that wasn't the only picture to change, specifically a certain poster in the WWI chapter. God that creeped me out.

  • wait what? a poster changed?! which one!Which room! where is it because i want to see it!

  • In the room with all the corpses where the power goes out at the beginning of WWI chapter, there are patriotic posters adorning the walls. Lower your sanity to dangerous levels, and one of the posters change to present a foreboding message.

  • SHRIEKING!!

  • No one game has had me freaking out like Eternal Darkness. It's not on a scary level. NO it's on a creepy level. I have played this game and beat it several times and Max's voice still sends chills down my spine and causes my soul to stand still.

No one person has had that effect on me. And to this day I still open my tomb of eternal darkness just to give my soul a reminding of what this man is capable of.

Insanity is a state of mind and Max is Governor of that state.

  • Why is this guy so awesome to listen to?

It makes it that much worse to know that he died!!

  • Seriously, his quotes were by far the most entertaining in the game.

  • Aw, you don't have the trapper autopsy...

  • I love listening to this guy.

  • Hmmmmm.... Depending on the alignment of the creature, Maxamillan's tone of voice changes. Chattur'gha = fear, Xel'lotath = insanity, and Ulyaoth = knowing.

  • The voiceacter also did the voice of Kenneth Baker in the Gamecube remake Metal Gear Solid:- The Twin Snakes. Listen to the line where he says 'Those Pentagon bastards!' for the most obvious indication.

  • I never played this game, but I already know...I don't want to. Max's voice actor is possibly the best I've ever heard. Madness oozing from every pore as listen further...I think I may actually be freaked out...

Not since The Suffering has a mere CUTSCENE managed to do this to me...

  • Then you definitely need to play this game. You will be able to savor the pure dread and horror more than others.

There are really only two genuinely "scary" parts in the game. The rest is just dreadful, wailing, etc. If you can handle Lovecraft, you can handle this.

  • @moseslmpg ONLY TWO? There are way, way, WAAAAY more than two. Every single goddamn insanity effect is an excercise in pants-wetting goodness. And there are DOZENS.

  • @Darkstonedeity

Most of the insanity effects aren't very frightening. Same deal with Lovecraft. There is frequently horror, but not so much terror.

  • What I love about this game is that it starts messing with your head. If your sanity metre drops too low the game will start playing tricks on you, anything from making it look as if its deleting all your saved games (its not) to the infamous 'blue screen of death' suddenly appearing. I havent played this game in years and yet I can still remember it almost perfectly --it has a big impact on you when you play through it for the first time. You've got to play it if not just to feel your mortality

  • @dualshock71 "MAY THE RATS EAT YOUR EYES! I am now LOST to your cause! The Darkness comes...it will DAMN us all...!"

  • Man, Max's voice actor is an absolute joy to listen to. XD

  • damn i played this game when i was like 9 or 10

    O_o

scared the crap out of me

  • yeah... the same effect here dude...

  • The last one was the best!

  • Max's Autopsies = Awsome

  • whoa dude, maximillian is way too insane, regardless of how ure sanity meter is, hes still way to mad about all this, he sounds like he should be in a sanitarium, and im glad he was

  • I've done it...it works... EPIC

  • Man, I love this game ^_^

  • RIP William Hootkins

    You rocked.

  • hey moselmpg i noticed you don't have the trapper autopsy... i know people think it doesn't exist but they r wrong. i actually have it, only it has no alignment... you only see it in one area in max's level: the kitchen

  • I know. Check the other autopsy video.

  • No...they aren't. Sweetbreads is a term used to identify the inner organs of small animals...in cooking. "Man's Sweetbreads" would be the inner organs of humans. ^-^ Yayyyy cooking!

  • Maximillion makes sure to cover every detail, so much so it puts him on the brink of insanity - hell, I'm tempted to say he crossed that line LOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago.

He's thorough, is all I can say ...

  • One of the greatest games ever. I need to get this again.

  • That's some awesomely hammy voice acting right there.

  • Hammy? I'd say, given his state of mind in the game and considering the time period and his status, I'd say the VAing is spot-on.

  • 'I knew they were there, plotting behind that door'

^ a preminition of the killings that caused Max to be institutionalised

  • IT´S THE VOICE JOKER!!!!!!

  • Hugely underrated game.

  • Agreed. But hey, maybe when the sequels come out, it'll get the recognition it deserves.

  • Poor Max really hated those Bonethieves.

  • I don't blame him. When he killed those 4 servants of his while they were in bed, I think one of them actually WAS a bonethief.

  • @HelloKittyTsi It actually was, as the game itself takes note of one missing skull on the ashes of the other servants.

  • @XBacon thanks for telling me. A lot of my friends were saying weird stuff & making me think that I was wrong. Anyway, thanks for the info. ^^

  • @HelloKittyTsi one of them was, remember? three skulls, four beds? Max may have killed three innocent men but he got rid of the bonethief alright..

  • @Jill4ChrisRedfeild I know. But someone keeps telling me there were TWO. But I know there is ONE.

  • @HelloKittyTsi same >.< whenever I play Alex in the beginning, 3 zombies attack me sometimes (I did see someone play it and there were more than that but when I did, there was 3) which could symbolise the three innocent men who died because of Max?

  • he forgot the trapper

  • this is sum sick voice acting

  • "Zombie" is of West African origin: Kikongo zumbi, meaning "fetish" and Kimbundu nzambi, meaning "god" (both Bantu words & tied to the name of a snake god). Had a later meaning of "reanimated corpse" in African voodoo cults. At latest it's from early North American African slaves, from the Louisiana creole word meaning "ghost" derived further from the Spanish word sombra, meaning "shade." Since Max is from the latter18th century, it works fine you fucking idiot. Now STFU & GTFO.

  • I remember when I'd get too scared to play the game at night I'd get mah blanket and make some mac & cheese and listen to crazy ol Maximillian.

  • Can't say I blame this guy. Jeez!!

  • I usually hate overdone stuff but it's so much fun to listen to this guy...funny and fun stuff.

  • too bad he doesnt do an autopsy on the vampire beast.

  • The voice acting are amazing in this game! I love it! Eternal Darkness is still one of my favo horror game! I want a damn sequel! I want more of this!

  • You try doing an autopsy while you're foaming at the mouth.

  • o its in the comment response

  • awesome vid, but you forgot the trapper autopsy. you can find a lone trapper with Max in the kitchen, its crawling on the floor in front of the table when you first enter (you wont be able to see it, but its there, it makes that weird noise). The best strategy is to shoot it from the door as soon as you enter, Dont even move, just shoot it, so you dont lose the chance to autopsy it. hope this helps, (please post it up, i'd really like to see it, dont have my gamecube anymore, its a good one too)

  • He has a seperate vid cus he found outlater

  • thanks

  • it is realy a schame that this game is not recondensiesd by its greatness.

  • this was the first game i bought for gc..and io was the only one out of all my freinds who botherd to play it..they dont know what there missing..i still rember screaming at my tv when after i saved my game a "deleting data" messaged poped up

  • i got this game when i was 13 and it brought me to the horrifying world of HP Lovecraft. the voice acting in the autopsies alone and how fantastical and insane these creatures were amazed me that they were coined from something as simple as a book from 100 years ago.

  • shriiiiieking!

  • this voice actor is really good

  • Sweetbreads, in this case, refers to certian organs such as the pancreas and thymus glands.

sometimes its used to refer to other organs, most notably brains.

  • Yeah, that's right. We all know that, it just sounds funny =P

  • actually not everyone knows that...like panecito I didn't know why the heck he said "sweetbreads" too but now I know...eww...haha

  • simply amazing

  • These are great, absolutely fantastic. If there was some way to get a video of all the different sanity effects, that would be awesome, but I realize just how time consuming that would be.

  • Voice acting doesn't get any better then this.

  • WraythSkitzofrenik

    I agreed. :)

  • "And feast upon all the sweetbreads a man has to offer!!"

I'm sorry, but that line is just too funny XD

The zombies are like: Mmm, sweetbreadsss...

  • Hahaha i really laughed at this when i heard his autopsies in the game.... max is flipping mental! hahahah! gotta love the voice acting

  • holy shit, that's quite the voiceover.

  • how many autopsies are there, on my first run and only got 4 of them as Max

  • zombies. Horrors, bonethieves and minor guardians of each alignment have an individual autopsy. Trappers have just one, which can be tricky to get.

  • rofl

    DAMN OUR EYES!!!

  • Best voice acting in a video game I have ever heard, especially of someone who's supposed to be insane.

Brother Gregory is in second place.

  • this acting was great,it's sad to know William Hootkins(who voiced Max) passed away in 2005,he was also Dingodile from Crash Bandicoot

  • And he was also the guy in Star Wars Episode 4 A new Hope... he played Jet Porkins!

    "pull up! pull up!"

"i caaaannn- *explodes* " i will miss his brief 10 second cameo and his voice acting...god bless and rest his soul.

  • Well, think about it. If you suddenly discovered a colony of undead/otherworldly creatures taking over your house, if you found out that evil Ancient gods were plotting to eradicate humanity...wouldn't you flip a little too?

Fantastic stuff. My favorite part of the game aside from Xel'otath's victory over Ulayoth.

  • GREAT voice acting!

  • Well its not really over the top, its just the whole point of the game is the guy goes insane..hes totally fucking nutso, is what im saying.

  • Man, is this guy for real?

  • Dude...I've been looking for soun bytes or videos of the autopsies forever. You rock!

  • I can't argue with that.

  • I start talking quietly but as I reach my point.....I WILL THEN START TO SHOUT!

  • I laughed pretty loud when i read this.

  • Easy for you to say, you're just playing a game about this. He's crazy because he had to actually experience it. Personally I would just pass out and not get up until all the zombies went away.
