I personally use to hate Angus, i use to think he was a cheap version of all the greats before him, but after listening to more of his playing and seeing this interview it's made me realize that he clearly has a strong love for his instrument and that's why he's put so much time into getting his own tone. So he may not be technically amazing, he's still put the dedication and time to find a style that fits him and millions of his fans. Isn't that what guitar is all about?
wow what a humble fella. and very astute to crowd mentality. most guitar legends are kind of dicky when interveiwed. angus and geezer butler are the only two i have seen interveiwed that are MORE likable after you see them. i know gb plays bass btw
Funny that I did the same as Angus when I learned to play because I also have small fingers and could not play like a friend of mine. The SG is really great to play but amazing how Angus uses it.
@AetroyayorteA not sure if thats a compliment you said, but as for one trick ponies. ac dc have a there own sound, same as you would hear a queen song or any other bands song. motrohead, guns and roses, van halen, clapton, hendrix, i can go on and on.
@AetroyayorteA your right...the same albums with the same kick ass rock and roll songs selling in the millions and even today selling out entire arenas and putting on some of the best rock and roll available today. So they didn't reinvent themselves every album...they still rawk'd and that is all they ever intended to do.....awesome sauce covers them forever!!!!!
I'm a huge fan of Steve Vai and Frank Zappa--and this guy represents something those guys can't even touch. Angus Young plays with raw emotion. When you hear this man lay down the riff, you know you're in the presence of the heaviest riffmaster and the greatest showman of his genre. Not to mention, a generous and humble master of his craft. What a great chance to see this man up close and personal. Truly outstanding in his field.
the more i look at these rockstars the more i understand that its not the guitar skill that matters, its the creativity and show! cause he isn't really a supertalented guitarist is he? he just has that thing
I have always liked Angus Young from what i've seen.He always seemed like one of those guys you could just walk up to and shake his hand.Very humble. Also does really well with the hard rock chords and bluesy lead mostly because of the energy he puts into.I see alot of players that can shred better than Angus but most of them are full of themselves and don't put much feeling into it.
"We used to have a funny thing, it...used to seem after six o'clock at night when the sun went down or...whatever time the sun would go down, is when, suddenly this uh...you know, it's a bit vampirey in a way [chuckles], th-the sound would start to fa...eh-you know...would start to fall into place, you know? What sounded like, uh, you know, uh, a-ah, you know, a shambles in the morning sounded like something very together at night."
lmfao i love when angus plays the stiff upper lip riff hes like "you know if you hear one of the newer ones like stiff upper lip, you gotta" *starts playing* lmao
I usually play on an Epiphone G-310 SG.. Ebony :D Fucking wonderful :D Soon getting a Gibson Melody Maker SG in Satin White :D Go on Google and write: Jake E. Lee and in one of them he's standing with a Gibson SG TV, one humbucker pickup and awesome colors and plate. Love that one, and Melody Maker comes close, cheap, and not a bad sounding guitar at all :D
One thing that disappoints me with this interview is there's too many fill-in clips that we've all seen a zillion times... I mean when he refers to a certain song or thing it's stupid showing a clip from this concert,etc,etc,etc...
I would have liked to see more of Angus talking about some of the techniques that he uses a lot or the type of stuff he plays everyday or during a pre-concert warm-up...
one thing about it, I have never heard another guitar player play AC/DC and sound like Angus. Other guitarists/shredders are much easier to copy but to sound like angus, well, there is only ONE ANGUS.
It's a fun thought that this calm little guy is the one flying around a huge stage making his guitar squeel and the audience scream. I saw them at a huge stadium show not two years ago and god damn it was the best show i've ever been to.
@Cadrin1111larock oh yeah... and gibson is remaking the sg junior from 1960 ( where angus plays on in the video ) and they have the same sound... FUCK i would give my left nut for that guitar...
Try the Stiff Upper Lip intro with a pick, the Thunderstruck intro with every note picked and the final part to the Hells Bells solo. Not easy. Most will fumble part way through. Ingwie Malmsteen made a point to praise Angus' intensity, accuracy and vibrato and called him a fantastic guitar player.
What a look on the inside. I know we all wish we could pick up a guitar and crank it out so effortlessly like Mr. Young does. The band is very private. Any inside peek is awesome!
Greatest guitar player ever, and no one even knows. Thank you Angus Young the greatest guitar player hasn't ever gotten any credit. Hasn't changed his style in 40 yrs. yet everyone thinks he's "average".
I never played an SG - I was not aware that they were so light. I have always played Les Paul and love the tone, feel, and look. I can see how a light guitar would fit Angus better, especially with his showman ship on stage.
WTF is wrong with people getting into Slash vs Angus arguments! They're not the same guitarists at all so you're not comparing like with like in the first place. You can certainly prefer one over the other if that's your thing OR you can just be glad we get to enjoy both of them, and many more besides!
@Tapiola2007 i agree. both are great and comparisons suck. way too many gotta get a life bonehead comments on youtube. two of the best ever and idiots saying one is "better". both have such wonderful styles.
I'm sorry but Slash was on one good record which was appetite for destruction, Angus is a fucking legend, there is literally no comparison as far as I am concerned! Angus equals rock n' roll played the way it is supposed to be played, greatest rock guitarist ever!
@UkeOfEarl When I first tried to play this I was stunned : D But with some patience you can pull it off. Anyway, I would like to see anyone who doesn't pay respect to Angus play this song...
he uses his little finger to bending, anyone can do that? don't be saying that so easy, he playing in his style, just playing stiff upper lip's intro with your little finger/pinky and i saw his little pinky always parallel with his other fingers, and he can do that while he was running on stage, oh man angus is monster of rock!
@tomfalkon He was born in England, but grew up in Australia (where ACDC were formed) but has spent the last 25 odd years in Europe (lives in Netherlands now) so his accent is a general mixture of all of those places.
Actually Chuck Berry might've been the greatest guitarist ever, seeing as Angus was inspired mainly by him, and he also said he couldn't play like Hendrix, although Hendrix had a weird ass way of playing lol!
Angus is hands down one of the greatest guitar players of all times. In my opinion, there is really no one to compare him too. To say that slash has equal greatness to angus is totally bogus. Theres no comparison!!! Angus ROCKS and has been doing so when most of todays best guitar players was just a twinkle in their daddys eye. Ask these guys who is some of their idols are? Most if not all of them will have angus at the top of their list.
Just try to play the whole "Thunderstruck" riff sitting down and realize the damn hazzle Angus has moving around all the time hitting it on the beat... Quite astonishing IMHO.
In 1980 I was still reeling from Bon Scott's death. I bought my Les Paul, a 50 watt marshall tube combo, and set out to be Angus. Sold the guitar for many other types... even sold the amp. Was accepted at GIT, and decided not to go. But now, at 43 , I find myself strangling an SG and playin "It's A Long Way To The Top" (if ya wanna rock'n'roll). It's simple man.... just play the damn thing!
@bballplaer4life33 $200,000,000 in record sales not bad for a guitar player who sucks, Angus sells out major venues while Dave is playing in small theaters.
He seems less drunk than he used to 20 years ago.

@bballplaer4life33 Really? The sad thing is that Dave probably has nothing but respect for Young, you my friend are a douchebag! Stop being a troll!

@bballplaer4life33 $200,000,000 in record sales not bad for a guitar player who sucks, Angus sells out major venues while Dave is playing in small theaters.
