@yorgof Oh there are alot of opera experts who think that Paul Potts has a great voice, many may not like where he has come from, more or less just walking in off the streetand they may have studied in these conservatories for many years. The voice was acclaimed before the story, the audition did not say anything about him before he stunned the public with his voice. I have heard all the tenors out there, and Paul is one of the sweetest and powerful voices. Paul a great tenor voice, powerful.

@timetolovetimetodie Look up the word "opera" in any English language dictionary be it Oxford or Webster and tell me how singing an aria from an opera with a microphone is "singing opera". Paul Potts has done AMATEUR operas which is very different from professional opera. I can go to an amateur drama theater next to me and get a role, it wouldn't make me an actress. Also, you've heard Paul live in AMPLIFIED concerts, through the speakers, you've not heard his unamplified voice.

You people need to learn how to spell and use the English language. Next, you need to stop using the word "amazing" when describing Paul Potts et al. He has a pleasant voice but he is NOT an opera singer. An opera singer is judged ON STAGE, not cheap popera concerts and Tesco compilation discs. He has never sung a stage role, his pitch is all over the place, top is thin, and he pronounces Italian phonetically. Listen to a REAL operatic tenor (Pavarotti, Alagna, Villazon) and mark the difference.

I'd imagine if a hip hop dancer were called "ballet dancer" and tried to dance ballet, he'd be criticized based on ballet standards and vice versa - a ballet dancer trying hip hop. Genres are different and have different requirements. Paul Potts gives joy to you and a lot of people, it's great. But his genre isn't opera. Maybe if he had training it could've been, maybe not.

Paul Potts singin Nessun Dorma now is up there. I think he has a much better voice than Bocelli. To say that Bocelli is so well trained in classical singing. Not seen Bocelli live like I have Paul, but heard him many times and Pauls voice just seems to soar to the high notes so well.

@2Cats100 I think popera has its place, but it's a completely different genre from opera and should be introduced as such. I'd imagine if a hip hop dancer were called "ballet dancer" and tried to dance ballet, he'd be criticized based on ballet standards and vice versa - a ballet dancer trying hip hop. Genres are different and have different requirements. Paul Potts gives joy to you and a lot of people, it's great. But his genre isn't opera. Maybe if he had training it could've been, maybe not.

As to taking opera world by storm - there is really no chance of that but if you think there is, check out Operalia Grand Final video on medici tv to get an idea of the competition in opera world. Regardless, I think Paul Potts is talented and gives joy to a lot of people. Just let's keep genres separate.

Paul Potts singin Nessun Dorma now is up there. I think he has a much better voice than Bocelli. To say that Bocelli is so well trained in classical singing. Not seen Bocelli live like I have Paul, but heard him many times and Pauls voice just seems to soar to the high notes so well.
