  • @OrbitalEnterprise - I agree with you!

  • Though I am a piano player, I have yet to understand the meaning of 'Grades'. Shouldn't music be an enjoyment? Why must you play according to what the standards say? Every person has their own style, and so some music are suited more to one than another. Yet Grades say differently... How horrid.

  • Yes, several have noted that! :-)

  • I think the song is Prelude in C BWV846.

  • @marmiz9436 wait , but i found the prelude easier than 'ave maria'....

are we speaking the same language ?

  • Red John O.O

  • Cool piano

  • Yes, I find you can do so much with this piece! You can just play it according to your mood to yourself as often as you like it, the way you like it, it sounds always fresh and encouraging!

  • @buchererpianos

I agree, but that Ave Maria (composed by French composer Charles Gunoud in 1859, which was superimposed to Prelude nr. 1 J. Sebastian Bach, written in 1722) is a classic musical / religious and lose some if its beauty interpreted differently than was intended by its author, and change in party

the melodic phrases. That's what I think about it.

  • cont.... At first I used to think that this piece sounds strange(when i play it) but when looking at the book which in an exam it's supposed to have the original versions this is played well this way... if I'm not mistaken the 1st 2 notes are crotchets and the others(treble clef) are quavers but then it depends on the speed it has(both on time signature and Andante, Allegro etc)

Bdw if this was as easy as it sound/looks it would have been in a Preliminary exam lol

  • This is not an easy piece. I have this as a piece in my Grade 7 exam. It is the feelings and expressions that make it difficult.. else it would sound boring. I understand those who think this is easy since when i chose my pieces that's what i thaught. When playing it you'll find that the chords are easy to play but putting feelings and expressions to it might be a bit difficult. The way i have in my exam bk is holding the 1st 2 notes throughout the bar and using the right pedal and it's faster!!

  • @marmiz9436 you have this in your grade 7 ?? im in grade 2 and i learned ave maria last month.

i dont play this one, i play the hardest (says my piano teacher).

  • @AnnaAndMow It's not too slow at all! It could be even slower to emphasize how beautiful it is!

  • @AnnaAndMow Sure it sounds easy, but its difficult 2 play it with the emotion he has! And I think if he played it faster it wouldnt sound good.

  • i like this, but I think in your chords, you should lag the first two notes, it sounds a bit strange. but stills, slick piano, and neat playing.

  • There are two ways in which this piece is being played: first: with emphasis on the first note, holding the first two notes throughout the bar. Second: emphasis on the second note (which I am using), even using the right pedal, which is not intended in the original version. Many people I have asked prefere the second version, as I do. In the movie of Glen Gould which I saw, the pice is even played pretty much staccato (pop like), which is also nice and which I also could demonstrate easily.

  • only those two? i've heard many accomplished pianist playing it without emphasising the notes. i guess that's why i like that way, because I'm used to it. yes, i can imagine that the first way of playing it would be rather horrendous.

  • Glen Gould is emphasing first note very much! Even the staccato is not the same way in every bar. So, if there are two main streems, there may also be many other streems in between of course! Enter "Glenn Gould plays Bach Prelude in C Major" in the YouTube search engine and you will find Geln Goulds version, holding out the first two notes, playing the rest staccato! There are intermediate ways, yes, but these are the two main ways I am playing it, leaning sometimes more to the one or the other.

  • @stad97

I think it's a matter of reading the score or the beginning pianist was more insecure. Anyway, it's not a good interpretation. In fact, at one point he starts playing only the original harmony of Bach, forgetting to play the melody of Gunoud, that's who signs this famous Ave Maria.

  • Beautiful playing, sirrr

  • I think you should change the title, you play only Bach (well tempered clavier book 1 prelude bwv 846), no Gounod's part.

I know it's part of Gounod's Ave Maria, since you didn't play Gounod's superimposition, the title can't be called "Ave Maria."

  • You are right! But it is still known by Aver Maria and you may play it as an accompaniement for someone who would like to sing Gounods melody to it!

  • i didnt know this was also part of ave maria.

the one in my bach book is different. and they call this one the prelude in c. how strange.

  • Charles Gounod superimposed the melody and Latin text of Ave Maria over the prelude in 1854. Thats why its known as Ave Maria. Franz Schuberts Ave Maria is also well known. Harmonies, melodies and texts sometimes find their way together! Ave Maria often has been sung in many versions.

  • yeah me too.

  • ehhm this is easy but it looks difficult

  • you play it slowly enough that I think I may be able to learn it from your video. Thank you.:)

  • I think - this piece is difficult!****
