It's very satirical, and I think a lot of people out there don't get satirical comedy. There are enough "tells" in this clip that gives that away, but, for example, go check out The Onion's channel, and there are tons of people there who are fooled by the satire and take it far too seriously. Granted, there are forms of satire that do not work, but I think this clip on Thailand shows it's making fun of the belief that Thailand's all about sex.

I said the same thing some time ago. The sketch, to me at least, is obviously tongue in cheek and it's targeting people's incorrect view of Thailand as being all about sex. It's turning those stereotypes on their head. Satire is often misunderstood, and it's complicated by the fact that some things try to pass themselves off as satire, but they're true racist or ignorant thoughts. I'm Asian-American, and at no point did I believe that this clip was trying to say Thailand is the sex capital.

@mbarbarelli I would say that any military occupation in which exploitation of women and children occurs is bad; I don't think this undercuts my argument that there are reasons beyond Thailand's government for the sexual slavery and exploitation that occurs in Thailand.
I don't think this sketch is an "obvious insult to Thailand". I think it's fairly obvious we're satirizing Thailand's reputation as a sex-tour destination.

I hate this kind of video. Don't judge things that you don't really know. I live here at Thailand. Yeah I have to admit that most of our country is poor but not all of it. Bangkok is a very civlized place in some area. But there's only ONLY 3 small street that are name for prostitute street actually it's not a street it's a soi(a smaller street) and each are about 600 metre long. Don't judge things you don't know. How would you feel when somebody tell you that your country have nothing but sex.

It's very satirical, and I think a lot of people out there don't get satirical comedy. There are enough "tells" in this clip that gives that away, but, for example, go check out The Onion's channel, and there are tons of people there who are fooled by the satire and take it far too seriously. Granted, there are forms of satire that do not work, but I think this clip on Thailand shows it's making fun of the belief that Thailand's all about sex.

This was a hugely funny video!
The 18MMTW's stock in trade is breaking the stereotype that Asian Americans can't be funny, etc., and they make this happen through some outlandish, and often controversial sketches. An earlier Asian American poster noted that they understood this sketch to be "fiercely ironic."
By allowing ourselves to laugh at the outrageousness of the sketch, I think we take some power out of the taboo, and possibly sneak in some moral social commentary.

Wow. I guess this is one of those vids that needs a massive disclaimer before the sketch. Which is truly unfortunate (seeing how badly the sketch and your intent were misconstrued by people who, I guess, were just watching it straight). I thought it was fantastically funny--great comic timing ^_^
On the other hand, I'm Asian American and understood the sketch to be fiercely ironic. I..would wager a guess that a lot of people commenting didn't quite get that. Unfortunate, that.

I said the same thing some time ago. The sketch, to me at least, is obviously tongue in cheek and it's targeting people's incorrect view of Thailand as being all about sex. It's turning those stereotypes on their head. Satire is often misunderstood, and it's complicated by the fact that some things try to pass themselves off as satire, but they're true racist or ignorant thoughts. I'm Asian-American, and at no point did I believe that this clip was trying to say Thailand is the sex capital.
