This song is about his addiction to heroin and how it ruined his marriage, ie 'the mexican princess is out of my life' from what i understood they seperated in 1998 and the divorce was finalized in 2000 around the time he wrote the lyrics to Atlanta. He mentions this in an interview that he was going through the seperation around the time of writing this song

I really fucking hope there's a song of this caliber on their new album. What I've heard from it is great so far (Between the Lines, Hickory Dichotomy and Bagman). But there needs to be a mellowed out acoustic song that packs an emotional punch with beautifully written lyrics that only Scott can write. I'll settle for something similar to "Hello It's Late" from "Shangri-LA DEE DA" or "I Know It's Too Late" from "'Happy' In Galoshes". There just needs to be a song like this on the new one.
