@chilibeans66 Unfortuently, everything gets deleted besides the box that you clone the second starter. that's why it's best to do this glitch in the beginning of the game.

This is my favourite glitch. But for there are a couple disappointing parts.

1. The starter you glitched in doesn't register in your Pokedex (when it evolves, it's evolutions do) (just breed it with a Ditto and hatch it's egg and this isn't such a big deal)

2. Since the starter glitched in doesn't have your ID no., it will be an outsider after it reaches level 10 (until you beat Bugsy, then it's 30, etc) so starting trying to train evenly gets irksome after a little while...

3. Any Pokemon you capture after your gender change register your OT as the gender you intended to be. However, your unglitched in starter will keep you as the original gender! (example: for a Blue boy, a Sentret you capture would say you're a male, but your starter would still say its original trainer was a female).

4. When you get warped, your colour gets turned to normal. You can't avoid this, cuz you get warped from Slowpoke Well to Kurt's after saving the Slowpoke...

For example. I started as a boy so I could have a redhaired girl. I did the glitch successfully, but when Kurt warped me back to his home, I turned into a blue girl. Three transformations in one game! xD

You have to do this warp to carry on with the game because otherwise you can't battle Bugsy, get Cut, and travel to the Ilex Forest to continue :(

But at least you get two starters! :D

@Khoufu You're right, it has nothing to do with the name lol And no, it is not risky XD The only "risky" glitch I've found is one involving a random Kingdra in the box with a really long name. Select it and the game freezes. Now THAT is risky lolz.

@Ryuu1879 I think lots of glitches are risky, like the cloning one on G/S, where you make pokémon change boxes but you turn it off before it finishes saying "Saving... don't turn off the power". That one can destroy your save data if you don't time it right, as well as the one with the GTS on the DS games, where you turn it off on the clock a certain amount of "ticks" before it's done, because you'll have 1 on the GTS and 1 in your box or party. The only "safe" one is Emerald cloning.

I think the reason you can change the colour of the person, if becuase the colour palatte of the characters are saved differently from the actual characters then sticky hold glitch in Sapphire and Ruby is an example of that

Before my original pokemon crystal stopped working,i restarted and checked my PC before i caught a pokemon...and i saw a primeape lv30 something named "????????"

I withdrew it with excitement...than the game froze and it stopped working completely =(

It kept on freezing constantly before because game boy advanced kept on rejecting it.

@DRE63k It would not because in generation 1 and 2 games, when you switch boxes, it requires you to save your game. Starting in generation 3 games(that includes Fire Red as it came out in the "3rd generation era as a remake") the boxes no longer had to save game data to swithc between them.

@MaddietheCattie When Silver, Gold and Crystal first came out people wondered what kind of glitches would be found in those versions (like the Mew/Gengar/Golem/Alakazam glitch in Red, Blue and Yellow) this was the first glitched discovered in this game which is part of the reason this game is the best to me since you can get all the starters "legit"

@macaronibabe It does not ruin your game at all ^^ Yes, this glitch will also work on Gold and Silver, except for the color changing sprite(as Crystal was the first game to introduce playing as a female sprite).

Also, I know the reason why the colors can change. I had a gameshark years ago so I could get mew and celebi mostly, but I fiddled around with my own custom made cheats. By accident I stumbled upon a cheat that changed my pokemon's color, and I researched it. Every object in the game has at least two lines of programming code, one for it's appearance, and one for it's color. The game probably saves the color line first, and then it saves the character's appearance which is their gender.

@Tslates92 So, basically, if you turn off the game while it's saving, it'll have only successfully saved the appearance of the character, so when it tries to load the gender, it's only left option is male. Makes sense

Actually the main reason why you can't do this in the newer games is because the new games detect when a save file is incorrect. Since R/S/E if you turn the power off while the game is in the middle of saving, then when you go to resume your game it will say there was an error saving and it will use a back up of your game from the last working save. It is possible to do this cheat without switching boxes, by just saving normally.
