please! anyone know where I can find pictures of GP with the award for defensive player of the year?, who won in 1996.

  • not only his offence,

he had the nicest defence ever

  • Kidd > Payton

  • sorry ass defense.

  • sux. if payton was still in the NBA, Stern would have to make a rule for no toleration on the glove >.>

  • HAHA why is fisher always that one getting schooled LOL

  • holy shit, do they still use those fast break clocks? i don't think they do.

  • I make NBA Mixes with so much passion but noone watches them...could anyone in here give me a comment at least?

  • @KingKoltAir no one watches them cuz ther fucking cack

  • Gary Payton is certainly not given the recognition he deserves. I would still say Magic is the best PG of all time, but if I were to pick a team that included Jordan/Bird(among others) I would want Payton at the starting pg if only for his defensive abilities.

  • Payton's the only PG that can play Small Forward AND SG

  • @wcmaster26 magic?

  • gary had a contract withh nike for a wile but when he whent to la. he switched to jordans and when he whent to miami he whent back to nike

  • well remember id rather have a team thats a good defensive team rather then a good offensive team

  • GP best pg of the 90's, one of the greatest pg's ever.

  • the shoes paytojn is wearing are the glove from nike.i had a pair of his signature shoe in 1999.i seen them retro at nike town in london today.

  • This is the NBA!

    And there is The Glove!

  • just you

  • They're the Jordan 12's right?

  • Man I'd take gp over any point guard in the nba right now.

  • Nice...I think he would be better than any PG right now, CP3 would be just like him if he was 4 or 5 inches taller, but he isn't, and D-Will isn't the defensive or offensive force he was...I think I'd take a prime GP over any PG in the league now to since you mention it...Plus he's just a funny dude, and great trash talker.

  • Ima still go for Allen Iverson on his best

and Derrick Rose is getting good also

  • @Zennairrr .... john stockton shoots over 50% in his career....but he shoots .421% vs gary payton.. marbury shot 22-72 .306% in the 98 playoffs vs payton kevin johnson shot 26-88 .295% in the 97 playoffs vs payton iverson and rose cannot contain great pgs like payton can.... in michael jordans lowest scoring finals games, payton was his main defender.... 97 vs k.johnson payton 25.4 ppg kj- 16.8 ppg 98 vs marbury payton 26.0 ppg marbury- 13.8 ppg ...paytons defense was tenacious
  • That's right ,

but basketball is not only defence .

Payton was a great player , but if i was a coach , i shouldn't let Payton take the big shots in overtime ,

I think it's just a different type of player :)

    that's just my opinion

  • @Zennairrr ...bball not only defense?....r u forgetting gary payton has over 20,000 career pts and alomst 9,000 assists?....here is what im saying...

    payton- 20 ppg 8 apg

    k.johnson- 20 ppg 8 apg

those are made up stats, but my point is that while gary could get 20 and 10 vs the defense of kj,kj would not reach his average vs payton...

r u forgetting payton hit the game winning shot in the nba finals in 2006 in game 3?....only oscar robertson and allen iverson had more pts as point guards

  • 2006 nba finals?

  • as much of a jordan fan as i am you wonder if george karl would've put gary on mike the entire series instead of the latter part of the series

  • @mjpipkid ....i dont know why george karl didnt put payton on jordan in the first half of that series....gary was defensive player of the year that yr,and jordan was scoring champ....it just makes no sense that he wasnt guarding him

  • @The1stFishBone lol what a stupid comment

  • @Chrischi7777 Care to explain?

  • @The1stFishBone derek rose? chris paul? i donno bud...

  • gp!

  • Payton is tha man

  • 4 fucking seconds man! wow!

  • i know gary paytons son, he go 2 my school in vegas

  • yeah, right. shut the fuck up. get off your mom's computer.

  • ahhh haha good one bro

  • haha. Keep fighting, you'll entertain everyone.

Maybe you had an off day or something. haha

  • was payton wearing Jordan 12's?

  • Lowkey nipple twist on the ref at 0:23

  • man, i miss watching this so much

if i only had a time machine...

  • haha everyone says that, yet its pretty well documented that murking off hitler was impossible.

and yeah, id go watch one of the greatest players in history play in his prime...again...

epescially in the 96' finals against jordan and the bulls...

    good shit right there...

  • You could choke that fool out when hes a baby if you had it in ya....but Yeah, If I had a time Machine I would watch jay in his Prime...and I would Bring Kobe with me put him on the 91 lakers and see whos better in their prime..no more speculation lol

  • well there is a lot possible with a time machine, isnt there...

  • yeah we should build one...

  • u fucking idiot u cant do shit with the time machine cause u cant change the past. all u can do is spectate. if u change 1 little thing in the past the future will change...chaos theory kiddo

  • Shut up man, you just ruined it.

  • CP3 Sr...

  • haha...well..."BEST" maybe not...but certainly ONE OF THE BEST in NBA history.

  • Its because he was rockin the Son of Gloves.

  • isn't that a carry?

  • on of the best the game has ever seen and my personal favorite, him and kobe

  • cp3 reminds me of gp20

  • i know he does a lot they both get plenty of assist

  • For a short guard, shit for any guard GP was top 10!

  • payton was the man!

  • i think is more looks like 1 againts 3~4

  • in a good way i think payton was the cockiest point guard but he sure could back it up. in my mind he is in the top ten point guards of all time but i think stockton was always better than him

  • WOW! What a move! GP was so fun to watch!

  • i don't care what anybody says...if i had to choose, Kidd, Stockton, or Payton in their primes, it would be Payton HANDS DOWN...He is the only 1 of the three that could pass, PLAY INCREDIBLE DEFENSE AND SCORE AT WILL...I will take a scoring point guard over a pure passing point guard any day...so Gary, you want me to make that call to Mr. Stern about that HOF selection now or later...lol

  • that's true, GP at his best was better than Stockton and Kidd...

  • You are going to sit up here and say stockton couldn't pass and kidd couldn't pass you must 25yrs or under or live in seattle. And another thing my man Stern doesn't have anything to do with the hall of fame process

  • dude, let me explain...all 3 are extremely great passers, which is why i didn't emphasize "passing" in my last post...i guess you didn't catch that...i emphasized the words "DEFENSE AND SCORE AT WILL" because Payton did it much better than the other two, ALONG with putting other guards in the post...and about the Stern comment, i was being sarcastic...besides, after D.Wilkins didn't make it the first yr & S.Moncrief hasn't gotten in, i lost respect for the HOF...lol

  • Ok, that was my fault i didn't see the comma in the sentence when i first read so that was my bad. Let me ask you if you were a GM in today's game who would you take as your point guard?

  • @db32585 what can you say about GP and nash?

  • i think he was wearing Air GP zoom II...it was 1999

  • omg is he wearing jordan's?

  • Yes Sir, those are some 12's. Too bad Jordan didnt give him PE's until later on in his career. He wouldve had some straight SICK PE's with the 94-95 Sonic Throwback Jerseys.

  • he is so good

  • Art in motion ...GP

  • shush man

  • wow faster than the suns players. way faster than run and gun players

  • I lov this guy ... too strong ;)

  • joekiddlouisschama: You seem to be presenting only 1 SIDE OF THE STORY:

Although Payton never got as many assists as other players u mention, he averaged

    ONLY 2.27 TURNOVERS/GAME!!! UNLIKE KIDD'S 3.19/GAME & K JOHNSON'S 3/GAME & STOCKTON'S 2.82/GAME

PLUS, PAYTON SHOT ALMOST 47% FROM THE FIELD, COMPARED TO KIDDS HORRIBLE 40% AND HARDAWAYS MEDIOCRE 43%

THEREFORE, PAYTON IS A VERY ELITE PLAYMAKER B/C HE DID MORE THAN JUST GET ASSISTS: HELD ONTO THE BALL AND SCORED EFFICIENTLY

  • clay bennett is nothing but a liar and thief.

Gary payton made the sonics in the 90s and clay bennett is just jackin the whole lo Pleeease America, help Save OUR sonics

  • All about the GLOVE

  • yeap, if not the greatest, he was surely one of the greatest

  • in mine, A.I.

  • To be the greatest PG, don't you actually have to BE A PG? Iverson is obviously a great player, but by far he played more minutes at the off guard. He's still starting at the 2 for denver.

  • Iverson is a combination guard, but neither he nor Payton match-up with the best in terms of elite playmaking.

  • Nonsense. Payton is #7 all time in assists.

  • ... partly because he hung around forever. Payton never averaged more than 9.0 assists in a season and his career average is below 7.0.

  • top ten assists all time means you're an elite playmaker, period. I love how his career totals don't matter because he "hung around" but you also bring up his career average which could have been much better, except he "hung around" to help Miami win a championship as a reserve. By the way, if he had retired THREE YEARS EARLIER than he did, he would still be #7 assists all time and his career averages would be considerably better. By any measure, Gary "matched-up" nicely with "elite playmakers."

  • Payton was a good playmaker, but not great. That's why he never averaged more than 8.987804878 assists in a season (2002), and even if he'd retired in 2004 (pre-Miami and Boston), his career assists average would have been 7.2, merely the fourteenth-highest average from 1991-2004.

Payton was a great all-around guard, but not a great playmaker. He was a very good scorer, a great defender, a good rebounder, and a good playmaker.

  • Payton is a deserving future Hall of Famer, so I'm not knocking him. It's just that when you line up the assists averages of Payton versus certain contemporaries such as John Stockton, Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, and even Tim Hardaway at times (plus Steve Nash at the end), Payton comes up short of their playmaking greatness. Payton was an elite guard, but not quite an elite playmaker.

  • so fast!

  • gp used to be sick man

  • i wouldn't go that far

  • well as u get older ur skills deteriorate that's with everyone but miami wouldn't have won the championship without him

  • i suppose...i'm a celtics fan and he was TERRIBLE for us...still, overall, he was one of the best no doubt

  • I heard Stockton is an ass in person

  • Stockton's relatives who live near me certainly fit the bill of ***es

  • i heard stockton likes mens asses

  • no, he would school you and chew your head off

  • lets see u get ur fat ass out of ur moms basement and go try and ill laugh when he breaks both of ur fat cankles off

  • Speaking od school...what are cankles?

  • when ur so fat u have no ankles its just calf and fott lmao how do u not no that and its not old school look it up

  • I honestly never heard that before...cankles. Learn something new every day! But where would I look that up anyway? It wouldn't be in the dictionary, right? Anyway, I was just kidding about Gary Payton...he's a great player. Hey, is it true he might be coming back?

  • he had discussions with some teams but those were just rumors. besides he already got a ring so not much else to come back for somost likely he will remain retired.

  • racist muthafuckin kobe lover. id like to see you say that to his face he' kick your country ass

  • thats why you goin to hell you white trash cunt

  • c'mon now respect gary...one of the great pg's of the game.

  • better then stocotn wackss assssssssss

  • stockton was the best passer of all time, so that's debatable.

  • he was sickkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • fav player best point gaurd

  • dayum

  • WHOA!!! they dont call him the glove 4 nothing

  • they called him the glove because he played great defense

  • he used to dunk dumass!

  • nope...he even said he was too cool to dunk...

  • he was the best pointguard in the league far and away at that time.

  • damn he was the fucking man back then...the glove is back

  • the glove the best point guard in the 90's sorry stockton but in the 90's it was all about gary the glove payton hall of famer nba legend

  • he's da fuckin man
