Bill was hit in the head with a baseball when he was a child. The doctors said it could have been that which caused the aneurysm. Or he could have been born with it. No one quite knows for sure.
Would the Beatles have been the Beatles without Ringo? They could have produced the same music, but the vibe and spirit of the band would have been very different.
I think I read somewhere that aneurysms are rare but that some people are genetically predisposed to have them. When he had surgery, they found two. Or maybe that's just the long-term effects of the stress of his job on his cardio-vascular system.
He might be taking a huge risk each time he plays. But having decided to take that risk, it's fabulous to see see and hear him behind the kit. Miss seeing (hearing) them all together...
Had never seen REM live before. I got free tickets to that show from a friend at the last minute. I was blown away at how good they were live and become a convert. It was a great show.
i was at this show--it was a dream set list------begin the begin---radio free europe--life and how to live it---driver 8-- all of which i had never gotten to hear in 3 previous shows over the years--it was cold and rainy --but by the end of the show--r.e.m's return to "the first city they ever played outside of georgia" was an unforgettable show.
This is awesome, seriously... but in response to the comments asking Bill to quit being a farmer and come back to REM, I say, "leave the man alone!" He's doing what he wants to do. If you really want to express your appreciation for what he gave to the band, and in turn to all of us, you ought to do it by realizing that he has chosen the life he has now, and just be happy for him. He's got everything he could ever want...
Bill! COME BACK!!! perrllleeaassseeee!!! You know you want toooooo!!! To think I'll not see you four play again in front of me... arrghhhh!!! Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe forever!!! :oD xxx
This is completely amazing. I know REM has a live reputation, but I hadn't expected it to be like that! This is completely amazing, even for tiny, rubbish recording footage rather than the cool official footage. Amazing to see Bill Berry there.
Many, many thanks for posting this! I've been searching for this ever since it took place--and the one time I found it, it wouldn't download on my dial-up. This didn't take long at all--fantastic! You've made this Bill Berry fan estatic!

I agree... Please respect Bill Berry's wishes.
Dude.. the guy almost died.. Do you want that on your conscious?
He'll come back if he wants to come back... otherwise, let him enjoy his farm, and his golf game.
