People who are old enough to remember this from when it was new may count themselves lucky, although it may have taken some time for them to admit this to themselves. The 60s were arguably the most creative ten years for music in all of modern history.
This song alone makes Burt Bacharach a musical genius in my world. Beautiful song! Vikki Carr is terrific, but so is the Sergio Mendez / Brazil 66 version of this song for sure!
vean lo sublime e impactante que suena todo una invitacion a la dulzura ...para que aprendan los rreguuetoneros y demas artistas que creen que se la estan comiendo ....
These videos with Burt sitting around the piano with a token babe singing his tunes crack me up. You could swear that Burt is going to get up off of his seat and "Shag her rotten"! Bacharach is awesome!
@volsncards Are you nuts, Vikki Carr, one of the greatest female vocalists of all-time, is no token babe, in fact she is about as far as one can be from being a token babe. And Bacharach, while a tremendous songwriter, is nothing as a singer, in fact, his singingin this song detract big time from the overall performance.
Someone said that Diana Krall melts a man's heart singing this, but I bet they haven't heard Vikki Carr & Burt doing it; but then again I don't like Diana Krall. I can think of atleast a half dozen female vocalist from every decade starting in the 1930's that I prefer over Krall. Krall is a wanna-be to try to rank with truly great singers & probably has a powerful relative in the music industry. Vikki does this song justice.
¡IMPRESIONANTE! Bacharach un capo total... hasta esa época podemos decir que se componía música, aún teníamos talentos en el mundo... luego nos invadió la BASURA. ¡GRANDE BURT & VIKKI!
simone c can kiss my arse , this is talent ,not the crap he try's to push down are throats and take 55 percent of the royalties. i suppose if people knew what good music is they wouldnt buy it . oh well thanks for the good stuff anyway, most excellent.
Can't we ever go back to these wonderful days when people really sang and you felt so good listening to it? All you hear now is noise. Young people today don't know how good it was to see variety shows on television with legendary singers. Now all you see is garbage. Vikki Carr is one of the greatest singers of all time. And Burt B made some beautiful songs that are timeless.
god i miss the voices of vicki carr, dusty springfield, petula clark, karen carpenter! TRUE UNBELIEAVABLE TALENT, NO SCREAMERS AND FLASH IN THE PANTS AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE. I TRULY BELIEVE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE UNDER SAY 30 DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TRUE GREAT SINGING AND TALENT IS!
This is real music. long wave music that takes you up, not the short wave hard bring you down crap passing for music these days. Namely Rap, Hip hop, Heavy metal, etc, nothing but noise to bring the human spirit down.
What year was this? Burt has been composing since as far back as I can remember, and I'm 52, Say A Little prayer (done by both Dionne and Aretha way back in the 60's) is one of Burt's Compositions.
I am so glad I grew up listening to artists/composers like Bacharach,Glen Campbell,Carpenters,etc.-this was great songwriting and performing...thanks Mom and Pop for making sure appreciating music like this was important!
This is both inspired and inspirational. The world needs some romance these days. Burt is such a consummate composer, pianist and arranger. Vikki Carr is one of the most underrated talents of this century and the last. Everything about this is beautiful...sure makes me miss my ex-boyfriend! :)
This song transcends any language--especially when you have such a talented powerhouse named Vikki Carr singing it--what a torch singer!! What a torch song!!! Where have all the singers gone?? That whole era--one talent after another--all gone??? What happened?
Burt Bacharach wrote the most romantic music of the 1960's. I don't think I have ever heard Miss Carr ever sound so good. And isn't Burt so handsome?? Our parents listened to this but they played it right along with The Beatles and Glen Campbell right on Top 40 radio. We looked forward to growing up and living the same kind of romantic life our parents did.
@amd77j Do you mean in your personal record collection or were you a DJ? I listened to KMRC AM 1430 in Morgan City, LA. We could pick up WWL New Orleans, LA and KAAY Little Rock, Arkansas. There was one other NOLA station we could pick up. There was Mom's radio that sat on the kitchen window sill. I also had a little transistor radio I would sneak and listen to on my ear phone when I was supposed to sleeping.
Beautiful voice! Beautiful woman! This had to be one of her finest moments. Love her! Thanks for the post and the trip back to a much better time, if not anything else, certainly the music.
REQUEST PLEASE!! VIKKI CARR MUST HAVE SANG THIS SONG AS A SINGLE OR IN A STUDIO VERSION GOT TO FIND IT SHE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE ITS ENCHANTING POST IT LET ME KNOW @YAHOO,COM
Everyone knows Burt was a genius composer, but there seems to be little consensus about his vocals. It's subjective, but I, for one, loved his voice during this era. It had a lot of character, and I love the way that he wrung every ounce of emotion from it when he sang. Much like he does when he conducts.
BURT BACHARACH A LEGEND IS PUTTING IT MILDLY HIS MUSIC SO POWERFUL ITS CLASS ITS STYLE MATCH BY NO OTHER GOOD FOR THE SOUL. AND WHEN SERGIO MENDES AND BRASIL 66 PERFORMS IT IS WHEN ITS BEST LISTENED TO THANK YOU FOR POSTING WHAT CLASS.
The only reason Burt sang is BECAUSE IT'S HIS SHOW....not because he thought he was good.......his singing is from a songwriter's approach and has as much impact on me as the original because HE was the creator of this fantastically written song....check out his recent rendition of "This Guy's In Love With You".....I've said this before, I could listen to him for hours...
Vikki often used to cry when singing: presumably because she meant what she sang. I adored Burt but felt he was not the best singer in the world. However he makes a passable attempt here.
waiting just to love you...now that I have found you... - i love you soooo! nothing beats the original composition and singing by BB and vicki carr. te amo mi amor ... : )
@scottmyers63 This video hints at the answer. As her popularity diminished, with shifts in public taste and new artists coming forward, she still did continue an active singing career - but singing in Spanish for the Latin American market.
Good stuff. I like a lot of BB's music and have loved VC for nearly 40 years.
My only reservation is that her powerful voice (which, let's face it, blows BB's out of the water:) has plenty of brass, but little silk.. She's at her best in big, trumpeting songs like "Let It Please Be Him," less so in pieces like this. NOT to denigrate her -- es una cantata esplendida, y tambien una mujer linda y muy sexy:) --
Burt Bacharach is timeless. He has such a good voice! I loved this. Beautiful song!
L O V E L Y !!! Thanks for posting. Burt esteve aqui em minha cidade , fui vê-lo e adorei. Amo todas as suas músicas e Raindrops com B.J. Thomas é um clássico.
so true, edstrat69. Sad that so much TV today is just so full of negativity and hate, it's all about tearing people down, not making something beautiful. Young people today deserve more beautiful stuff on TV, to make their lives more beautiful. More music, more love, more kindness, etc! My opinion

This song reminds me of just how empty my life truly is! I have had a crush on Ms. Carr since I was 14. Burts compositions always seem to stir the humanity of anyone listening.
What a classic.... The style of music has changed so much since this was recorded, unfortunately. Class and elegance was all around us during this era, and now look filth and crude are "in"... SAD.... :-(
Uplifting humanity required work! It 's easier to mass produce and sell that which appeals to man's base instincts! They poor people that work their whole life away to raise a family have to wait at the end of the line at the restaurant. The guy that produces porno movies has a reserved table!
@sterlinged you got that right -- People today care nothing about class sophistication and how they carry themselves - The one thing your children or [if you don't have any] other children will never experience !
Vicki Carr sang this so well i had to watch it twice. The way she looked at Burt while singing, it's amazing he was able to keep his hands on the right keys.
This is a wonderful duet with pretty Vikki Carr. The duet with Dusty Sprinfield & Mirelle Mathieu singing this song in French and now in Spanish with Bacharach. Spanish another romance language. Thank you for posting.
best melodies...ever..!!! .Hal David''s lyrics...perfect..!!!.!!..singers who sold these records...fantastic...!!!!!..Burt's voice...mediocre...but heck he wrote the damn songs...wish he didn't want to be a singer too!

Burt Bacharach is a giant of 20th century popular music. His irresistible music is as intricate as it is passionate, as subtle as it is soulful.

Any time I hear a Burt Bacharach song, I feel good and upbeat. I am 42 years old. Anyone feels the same?

Vikki was ridiculously HOT for a 14 yr old...and now looking back, I did have pretty good taste.

Maybe so, but she's at least 31 yrs old in this video. This was from a 1973 Burt Bacharach special...she was born in 1941.

best melodies...ever..!!! .Hal David''s lyrics...perfect..!!!.!!..singers who sold these records...fantastic...!!!!!..Burt's voice...mediocre...but heck he wrote the damn songs...wish he didn't want to be a singer too!
Wacokid48 2 years ago
Its not necessary to have a perfect voice to sing.
i want you to compare the bacharach´s feeling and one of these prefabricated new singers and tell me what you feel.
Singing is about feeling.
