I have one doing the same thing near my veggie garden, will she lay eggs??? what should I do to help, I plan on putting food and water out for her, but then what??? I live in caostal North Carolina and we are really dry this spring.
Thease North east Box turtles are so HARD TO FIND! Ive been searching for the last several years and cant find any! What I use to do years ago was find and take care of them and than let them go in the early fall so they could Hibernate for the winter! Now I haven't seen one of thease turtles in years!
This turtle is a cutey. :) I have 2 of these turtles. I had 3 but released 1 recently because it seemed unhappy in captivity and I was fixing to move. All mine were found by myself and another person during hibernation season in the middle of the road. One of them had already been attacked and had a chunk out of her shell. But they are awsome critters. Mine just woke up this month and are chowing down on worms.
pretty kewl. I want to catch a turlte soon like maybe this week. i have a pond close to my neighborthood so i'll go there to get one. if there are snapping turtles there i wont get one because those little guys are mean. ushamint could u tell me how big and what to put in the aquarim?
its hard 2 find box turtles where i live i saved 1 that wus 7 inches long of the road yesterday i kept it a day but i did wut wus better for it and returned it to the place i found him i didnt put him back in the woods but i didnt put him on the road i put him in the woods next to the road he wus on i named him MR. tortilini the tortis cuz they r tortises but they call them turtles :)
I am always amazed at how skillfully they dig their nests. Ans always without looking!

we don't see many because they're threatened with extinction from the pet trade & habitat loss. its a shame- they're such amazing animals.

there endangered in the wild not as a pet people still sell them legally

sorry mine are box turtles they don't live in an aquarium.
