The Volare was selected as the ugliest car by Hollywood when they made the Batman movies. it was the car of choice driven by the Joker. Quite a distinction.
@planetearth1210 Toyota could never make an engine as good as the slant6 chrysler completely engineered developed that motor and its the most reliable engine ever made.I would never buy toyota only american quality not a rice burner haha
These pieces of shite were well on there way to rusting through before they even left the dealership lot. I remember back in '77 my uncle bought one of these brand new, and we all went for a ride so he could show it off....it broke down on the way home. What a disgrace.
@dshmechanic I think that's the reason why they painted these rust buckets with the browns, tans, and oranges.. because it matched the inevitable rust!! LOL
@jakesaintsrow123 Where do I start? These cars were the reason that Lee Iaccoca has to rescue Chrysler from bankruptcy. The major components were good (318 Mopar, T1 transmission) but everything else was an engineering nightmare. Example: the rear defrost consisted of a loud blower fan that cleared up your window after about 30 minutes on the highest setting.
Funny they just happen to say $318.00 off haha the 318 V8 was one of their best engines except for the all time greatest dependable slant6 engine.Wish I could find a volare with a slant6 now i would jump at that even if it smoked heck yeah.!!
We had a gorgeous 1979 Plymouth Volarie red with red interior. That was beautiful car until my older borther totalled in 1985. Man, was my dad pissed. LOL!
@Annihilator1111 The Mexican Volare wasn't produced in Mexico City, Mexico, but in Toluca, Mexico. I know that because I live in Mexico and I know the Toluca Chrysler facility. By the way, the Volare was marketed as "Chrysler Valiant Volare" in Mexico.
These cars are perhaps one of the most underrated Mopars in Chrysler history. Sure these car were made during the time when Chrysler was going broke and even the quality wasn't the greatest on their cars, but they were DAMN reliable. My 78 Volare Premiere Coupe has has some factory defects here and there, but nothing to throw a pisser over. It was special ordered from the factory with a E85 360 Police Package, and yet it rides like a smooth luxury car. It's fun and outstanding.
@12bucklemyshoe1 Yes indeed. A 4-spd. (Mexican) transmission with Overdrive. It was a very unusual transmission. The 3-spd. Torqueflite Automatic was the best.
White wall tires were an option then...LOL....

I still occasionally see cars like this on the world, though not this exact model. They were really built to last, it seems.
