  • @alaind76 bende senin zihniyetine sahip türkleri...

  • All traditional sounds of ex-konstantinople and the countries around it...are amazing.I am Greek originated from ex-konstantinople. Proud that i can play/understand/feel this music. Greetings from Greece!

  • Does anyone here know how to play the duduk? For example, while playing it such as in this song, there is always the hummm of the tonic key in the background (in this case, an A flat or G# constantly humming behind the haunting melody). Kind of like a bagpipe, where you constantly hear a B flat humming in the background (or whatever key it's in). But how does a duduk maintain that hum and be able to make a melody at the same time? It really touches the soul.

  • Не надо мешать в одну кучу, политику и музыку.

    I m Turkish

    Hi from Turkey

  • Thank you brother! This kind of music enters your veins and makes you tremble. It tells the story of Anatolia - it's beauty and tragedy. If only we all lived in peace side by side as brotherly neighbours.

  • no its not that hard to play, not like other wood instruments. However, it does take years to master, it just doesnt take decades to master like other wood instruments. Also, the range of the instrument is only one octave.

  • good question!

    Does anyone know?

  • yes it is incredibly hard, it will literally take years to master

  • is it hard to play?

  • what I said, was meant for eyesofpegasus

  • in my opinion duduk is the worlds most wonderfull instrument and i am glad that jivan gasparian introduced the armenian instrument to the whole world. i admire him and i want to play as good as him. (geting my own duduk tomorow =)

    Regards from Israel

  • As a Turkish, I can deeply feel the music. It makes me cry... I think Gasparyan is one of the musical jenius of the world. I think we should not involve here bad politic issues. Please, I want my nation to not confuse this music with politic issues. Every beauty in the world shoul be appreciated and this music is one of this beauty.

Gasparyan i am one of your fan. Thank you...Fortunately you exist....Please come to

Turkey again and let us listen to your great soul...

  • Your words are very inspiring, friend.

  • Hello, I was so happy and touched by your comment! I am a Russian , to me Armenians are like brothers and I feel deep love for a Turkish person. I feel bonded with both of the cultures. Çok güzel! :D Спасибо!

After I've read some very hatefull comments of Turks and Armens towards each other it made me sad... Thanks for posting this wonderful comment :D

  • @eyesofpegasus

I hope you realise Mr Gasparyan is displaying how we, the Armenians feel.

No other nation is able to play on our instrument, the duduk or the zurna, as Armenians, as him. Because that sweet music represent our hurt.

Ps: he will return to turkey whenever The Armenian Genocide is recognized by ur government.

and also one thing with political issues you mean The Armenian Genocide?! That isn't a political issue, that's a humanitarium issue.

  • You are probably the only turkish person the respects our music thank you

  • @movsisyan14

you should listen to "Erkan Ogur" with Djivan Gasparyan

  • @ahmetcorak

Erkan Ogur is a fantastic musician. I particularly like his duets with Bulent Ortacgil.

  • im 104 years old im using my grandsons account to say this is what we listened to when the genoside my mom had to hide me in dirt it was my sadness that is this song

  • This is my heart.I am armenian.

  • ahuitelnii duduk

  • Turkey dirty nits! Turkey for the genocide of Armenians still answer! And Constantinople!

    Турки ещё за Армению ответят!!!

  • he is telling the Turks to answer the Armenians. He is a racist that is going for the uncivilized people. Don't you see...Germany accepted that they massacred the Jews and other races. That is a sign of civilization not that they have the greatest technology or something like that, but that they are human. The Turks know they did this, they just do not want to accept it LIKE ANIMALS!!!It is just embarrassing and uncivilized. Unimaginable that fellow human beings would do something like that.

  • great

  • exceptional sound, rich texture, tensed feelings...UNIQUE!DEVINE!

  • üfle alete

  • Gasparyan...A great master

  • Duduk!? I wish to learn how to play ;/ I really like this instrument.

  • stupid yanks 4 putting duduk in gladiator, they probly cant tell difference between armenian music arab music, balkan music or nething else

  • altho duduk is armenian, variations of it are found all over caucuses, balkans, turkey and eastern europe

  • I sometimes wonder if Jivan Gasparyan was born with duduk in his mouth. He plays it so well. Duduk has been part of the armenian culture since the beginning of the time. The genetic memory plays a big role for the armenians to play duduk this well. Duduk is part of the Ar-menian...Ar-yan culture that the genocidal turks wanted to destroy.

  • Duduk is an Armenian instiment

  • well, gladiator started it, and since then all of the big hollywood movies that can relate to it in some way used it too...

Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven, Chronicles of Narnia, ... you get the idea im surprised LOTR dint use it.

  • why do they use so much duduk music in movies like the "Gladiator". Who know the historic relevance? Were duduks being played at that time in Rome? Did the Romans even know about duduk? Or is it used primarily to create exotic ancient sound??

  • It's to create an exotic/ancient/sorrowful sound. Rome was a bit far from Armenia, but hey, I thought the music went well with Gladiator.

  • its prob because the area in which it was heard iften was dominated by the romans and because civilisation of that region is so ancient. But it worked very well huh. Love this guy his melody's transport me back in time.

  • bjunifol krasiva ilus

  • I have seen this video translated as "Don't Make Me Sad". It is actually called "Sayat Nova". I have the album this song is on... "The Moon Shines At Night". I checked and even played the cd and the video together; same ;)

  • Reminds me so much of our Turkish melodies. Great performance.

  • its not turkish melodi because they don't play on duduk! but djivan gasparyan he is awesome player... BRAVO!

  • read before you write an answer.. he just wrote, that it reminds him to turkish melodie, not that it IS a turkish melodie.. -_-
