I really like the sprayers you are using. Do you have problems with them clogging up after long periods of use? I have build one very much like yours and I am having trouble with my 360 degree sprayers clogging up. Any suggestions?
another question.. do you think a neutramist would be healthier for the roots than the squirting method? i dont think the plants would like that... like aiming a fire hose at someones crotch? wouldnt it be healthier with water mist and not water pressure?
i think the jffy cubes remains very soggy absorb alot of nutrients and a buildup occurs and this effects the plants slightly where as the growrocks to not absorb mositure and become soggy and are free draining. in my test the grow rock only plants had perfect leafs where as the jiffy cube in grow rocks caused a plant with nutrient discoloured leafs. take my advice and discard the coir sponges once they have served their purphouse.
won't you put the plant into shock if you tear some of the roots by trying to part from the sponge? what about the rapid rooter? its compact compose not a sponge, wouldnt that be healthier?
ive done experiments and i have found if you remove the seedling from the grow sponges you started them in and then plant directly into grow rocks with the plant removed from the grow sponge it gives a better overal plant health. I did a test and foundd a difference between plants left in jiffy coir cubes put into grow rocks & ones removed from coir cubes and put straight into grow rocks in system. the ones left in jiffy cubes developed leafs marks. the ones removed did not. they get soggy
this is the system i use my only real problem was changing the solution so i bought an identical tote and now just make fresh feed swap the heater pump and airstones over and swap the lid wiv my ladies in
@olioful why not just put the 2nd tote with nutrients under the tote with the plants and put a hole in both so that the water can run back into the 2nd tote(a resevior)
I have noticed that with my system the roots that are sitting in the water are white than the roots that are hanging in the air just being sprayed. I have achieved best results with using no media. Grow sponges tend to become too soggy. I think it is better using 2" sites rather than 3" as you can fit more in small space. i wish they would make those neoprene collars in the 3" size or bigger. checkout and google "thin air growing" system as they have made these really cool plastic holders
i have not seen anybody try a horizontal aeroponic cloner where the plants grow sideways to save space. Imaghine a round trashcan with the holes in an array with pots in the sides all around. You could fit hundreds of 2" net pots with this idea. I am working on it an need ideas for the spray line and this will have to run on an external resovoir. i was thing a ring shaped spray line would work. i will be used for micro herb production. 2" net pots are the way to go for aeroponics
@14CPO thats not a bad idea.except i would use like a 5 gallon bucket for less lighting space and less water power needed.you could just LST the plants to grow straight up again.I might do this.
Not familiar with "tote" ? as in reservoir? or pot?
Normally you would have your res on the floor filled up with the water for your plants, within that is your air pump and water pump. Your water pump turns on every few hours and sends water to your pots, your plants are suspended in hydroton clay (aka geolite) - clay balls so the water drips through them hits the roots then drains back to the reservoir from a hole in the bottom of the pots that connects back to the res.
where did you get the small tips that spray water mist like that? what's the name of it? what pressure you use to push that water a small fish water pump or a regular water line pressure?
you obviously dont know what your talking about at all, because that question makes no sence, go learn some stuff before wasting space with pointless comments
You obviously don't know what you're talking about... he's saying how often do you give it nutes, and the answer is whenever you change the water in the reservoir (because the roots drink up all the water)
maybe you should learn something before you make an ass out of yourself on youtube.
i didnt make an ass out of myself,,, You dont feed it at random times, you make up the nutirent mix and its done, you just either add more nutrient solution or change out all of it, theres no specific times ,
Hey man, everybody has to learn somewhere and I think YouTube is a great place for that considering the visual experience as well. Anyways try not to be so harsh on people just asking questions : )
i'm sorry but that song kicked ASS! i mean i was watching that hydro/areoponic system thinking IT IS like rain! i'm sorry but if you are growing good herb that song can sound triumphant as fuck! 5 stars!
it would be better to have the water in a seperate tank if you are planning on doing full size plants in this. I have realized that having the pumps running 24/7 is too much for the roots as they become to soggy. ANy ideas for germinating seeds without the use of grow media as it isnt necessary in aeroponics. IF you could design some sort of seed disk which would save buying clay pebbles.
i have heard stories about nozzles becoming blocked but i havent had any problems and this is probably just stupid people who dont ever clean or maintain anything in their whole lifes. I havent tried the mist nozzles yet which sound good. even once roots are well developted, must sprayer run 24hrs a day. have you found any good on-off timings. if u have the roots chamber & a seperate water tank to preven roots from dangling into water, will this mean less root oxygen.
Having the roots sitting in water is no problem - just get an air pump and put an airstone in there to oxygenate the water. You will see amazing growth
how do you germinate seeds without using any medium? HOw would you use netting whilst still keeping light off the roots. you can also use rigid pvc pipe and not bother drilling holes into the container for the spray bar and just balance the spray bar on the pump. it saves time and hassle. im gonna try this outdoors

RomanianSausage 2 years ago
no as the coir cubes are like soft dust and break apart easy. the key with this is to let roots be exposed to air.
Lunarlaserranging 2 years ago
but isnt it bad with too much oxygen? i use to grow hydroponic herbs years ago and am rusty about it.

@RomanianSausage there is never too much oxygen

does that water get recycle itself?
YEKEHTSIOJOMRUOY024 2 years ago
yes its a recirc system
0FauxPa0 2 years ago
how do these recirc systems work exactly? your insight would be helpful mate.
YEKEHTSIOJOMRUOY024 2 years ago
The water sprays up hits the roots then drips back down into the resoviour and gets pumped back up again and sprayed out(recirculating)
That way no water is ever wasted, its continually consumed untill the plant 'drinks' it all.
Using a simple feeder ring and a drip system you can achieve this with a normal potted system too.

ginno1album 2 years ago
Its not true aeroponics as the roots are sprayed by water jets instead of hanging in an atomized mist but a nice diy job just the same.
AnotherScientist 2 years ago
how do you atomize? is there a special nozzle? or another method?
tubestick00 2 years ago
@AnotherScientist mist sprayers get easily clogged
kimar319 1 year ago
@kimar319
If you filter to 1 micron and use drain to waste they hardly ever clog, an overnight soak in white vinegar sorts the ones that do : )
AnotherScientist 1 year ago
@kimar319
Not if you filter down to 1 micron (1/1000 of a mm ) they don`t :)

you should use nozzles that deliver smaller droplets to really call this system aeroponics. between 10-100 microns. this is hydroponics
dyysan 3 years ago
where do you get nozzles like that at ?
biggergez 3 years ago
osh sells revolving nozzles that spray at 55 microns.
jerryk2198 3 years ago
@biggergez it's not so much your nozzles but the pressure of your pump (should be at leat 70psi) which produces fine mist
habitnz 1 year ago
@dyysan they probly clog even worse if you actually start atomizing the water
