  • Why does this sad song make you feel better when you are sad. I've thought about this and believe it allows the sadness to flow freely and flush out the pain. It is bittersweet—that means its sadness is beautiful and compelling; so very intense, the emotionalism of it seems so strongly determined to comfort, if you will let it.

  • muiiiiiiiiito boooooooooooom, adoro esta musica, maravilhosa, Abraços Eric .. Sou do Brazil :)

  • sfiziosa, delicata, suggestiva, FANTASTICA!!!!

  • Of course I love this rendering.

  • clapton doing a charlie chaplin song-sigh! two of my favorite men ever

  • awesome boot

  • Clapton is playing a 12 string 1972 Martin guitar on this track. This song must have been paired up with "Let It Grow" as he used the same guitar on both songs. It was actually owned by Yvonne Elliman but used by Clapron throughout this tour. For you EC "Nuts" out there.

  • AWESOOOOOOOOOME!!!!

  • It's strange, it sounds slghtly different than the timepieces version. I guess the mix is a bit different, maybe Yvonne Elliman is less in front on the time pieces mix. Anyway, this song gives me chicken skin every time I hear it, and I can't get enough of it. EC described his music from this period as impressionist paintings You can hear here, very subbtle touches (YE vocals, Dick Sims organ and GT super precise solo). Thanks fo posting

  • CHAPLIN GENIO

    ERIC GOD

    ESPETACULAR!!!

  • i really like this keep on keeping on

  • I saw EC in 74 in Philly when he played this. When was GH playing with him? I didn't think he was on this cut

  • ...uma das músicas (letra e melodia) mais bonitas que conheço..

  • maravilloso!

  • Great cover!!

  • I wish Eric would start playing this tune live again.

  • It amazes me that after 47 years, I can still find new Beatle vids! Thank you so much for the post.

  • The best version of smile!!!

  • ..thanks redneck...who else is on it?

  • ..is Yvonne Elliman on vocals?

  • @gordonastley Yes it is!

  • This track was also on a 10 inch EP released by RSO in the late seventies called 'Prime Cuts' - it was a celebration of the Robert Stigwood Organisation, who EC was with at one time. I had it and sold it to keep life and sole together. This is the first time I've heard it for 26 years, and easily my favorite version....

  • @gordonastley Yes, it is Yvonne Elliman I love her sultry soulful voice. she did quite a bit with Clapton 70's & 80's. She got her big break in the original Broadway Cast of Jesus Christ Superstar potraying Mary Magdeline.she just wasn't given the credit of her vocals on the charts that she deserved, other than the tune "If I can't have you". There was a song she sang in J.C. Superstar "I don't know how to love him", but the person we all heard singing it on the radio waves was Helen Reddy.

  • Excelente...

  • This song lifts me up when Im feeling down, plus Eric's version is really good, it makes me rock and feel all right... Thanks for posting!

  • Charlie Chaplin's genius comes peeking out with this tune. Nat King Cole nailed it, too. Robert Downy even. Just shows the timeliness of the message.

  • not george harrison but george terry.

  • @roomserviceband

stick to the room service. If you cannot recognize the iconic slide guitar style of George Harrison you should refrain from embarrassing yourself. On the other hand Terry was in the band during this time Period.

  • @tedslaw You're smoking some good ganga my friend, that's not George Harrison, but it is George Terry! This was off of the Clapton, "Timepieces Vol. II," from the late seventies. George played slide occasionally, listen to the "EC Was Here" CD("Driftin' Blues") and you'll hear GT slidin' it on home...

  • This song has meant a lot to me for many years. brilliant .Thank you.

  • It's just such a lovely song, thanks for listening

  • Luv this version. Kudos to Sir Eric and Sir George

  • This was the first concert I ever went to!!! I was 15. I remember Eric wore shades on stage. Is this on any CD?
