Absolutely! My poor mother is hanging onto a job that treats her like dirt only for her benefits because she's having health problems. She's had a knee replacement and needs the other one done, but in order to keep the insurance that will make the surgery possible, she has to drag her body through the pain, day in and day out, working on an arthritic knee. If heath care was universal, people would be far less likely to stay in bad jobs, just for the health insurance. Hmm. I'm behind you on this.
Man thats too bad. And NO your dad wouldent be allowed to die here in Canada. And I would be very happy for my tax dollars to go twards his care, because one day this could be my dad, or even me. But I think thats the diffrence between the Canadian concervetive government and the American concervetive government. It really is sad how far behind the rest of the world the US is on this subject. I really do think Obama cares, and hes trying really hard, I hope he can get this done for your sake
Australia has universal health care, you hit the nail on the head when you said "civilized". The strength of a nation can only be measured by how well they provide for the weakest members of their society, not the wealthy!
I hope your Dad is ok! I've always thought that America should adopt the Canada health care system. People say that the quality of health care would go down if it was government funded. Regardless, if we had free health care anyone could get medical attention without worrying about how to pay for it and that would be a huge relief for people! They would be more likely to visit the doctor at the start of a problem rather than waiting until they NEED medical attention. It could save lives!
As someone living in Canada, I can say that I understand frustration with the American system. Nowadays people would riot if a politician suggested taking away free health care in our country, but that doesn't mean that people and politicians don't complain about the cost. Insurance companies may not run the health care industry in Canada, but the system still has a LOT of problems. People still die from lack of service.
Sorry to hear about your father. Hope he gets well.
I've lost my father to cancer. 4 months he was fighting with horrible pain and the doctors had no idea whats wrong till he died. Health care is bad everywhere not only in Canada.
I used to live in Brazil where public health care is pretty bad, now I'm in Spain and things work relatively well.
I never understood American health care. It seems so convoluted and absurdly expensive.
I'm not going to lie and say that I understand the politics behind it all, but I hope this can be sorted out in a way that is good for the people, not the wallets of those responsible.
The politics is pretty simple - giant profitable companies don't want public health care in the U.S., so they pay off politicians. And because a lot of Americans don't travel much, out of the U.S,. for years they've bought into lies about the rest of the world.

That's awful - I hope he recovers fully.
