Very funny indeed! I'm somewhat of a typography maven myself.

These days, I prefer OpenType Pro fonts that have built-in ligatures, REAL small caps (not shrunken capitals), lower-case digits and punctuation (yes, a lower-case hyphen, true dashes [em and en], parentheses and other brackets, colon, semicolon, etc. should look different from the upper-case versions), swashes, etc. etc. etc.

Mac OS X has this ability built-in. Windows can do it with WPF apps, or Adobe CS apps or any InDesign.

Ironically, the Nazis did really have disputes on matters of fonts; first favouring fraktur scripts over antiqua scripts, but then later banning fraktur and blaming it on the Jews. (Hardly the nastiest case of anti-Semitism they engaged in, but surely one of the strangest).

This video is absolutely right.

For subtitles, it's more important to put up translated dialogue that can be read and understood quickly than have type that looks "nice," which means the use of a clear and simple font (and sticking with that font throughout) is essential.

Good simple fonts: Helvetica (I will NEVER use arial in a project), Gill sans, and Futura. There can be exceptions, so long as it's still easily readable. Otherwise, pick one of the fonts mentioned and stick with your choice.

Hey all, stereotype warning! I was getting as tired of the Downfall clips as everyone else so I thought I would try something new - a retitled clip from The Seven Samurai where they have a rant about the attention Hitler is getting because how they've been using subtitles and overacting a lot longer. However, within only 40 views Toho of Japan had closed it down over copyright issues! There are a lot of unauthorised Seven Samurai clips on YouTube, I can only guess they don't do funny! AHP
