@Rollerbladersay although most answers are only theories (David Lynch doesn't believe in having a solid answer for everything and should instead be left open for interpretation) the ring offers one's life up but can only be done so, once the ring is taken off.

I have Laura Plamers diary, seriously, and the unauthorized book of charactors b4 anyone knew who klled her. I like very close to where it was fimed ad want to go there someday. athis movie is like an onion. With many layers, and skins b/t ea one. There are things I realize ea time I watch the series or the films that I've misse earlier. Daivd Lynch andhis daughter Jnnifer are very twisted, right up[ my alley like my poetry.

I am not sure- maybe its the image Laura sees in front of her-a kind of defense mechanism-instead of her fathers face she has mentally created the image of the nightmarish BOB-she sees only "BOBS" face rather than her Fathers. Its her way of detaching herself & not letting herself admit its her father??

Agent Coop finds out in the end of the series that BOB was a serial killer. He is now a demonic being who inhabits the body of Leland. Laura is seeing BOB, not her father because her father is not always BOB. This is shown in this scene: she goes up to her room, BOB and all of the supernatural forces of Twin Peaks are 'powered' by electricity, hence the fan. (They feed off of fear and suffering "garmonbozia" in the Black Lodge.)

So, Laura sees BOB, runs out, and whilst...

That's why the dinner scene is so fucking upsetting because now Laura knows it's her father who has been raping her since she was 12 and there's no way out of it in her mind.

@Teenager2thecore Eh, it would have been a fantastic film had Lynch not wrecked it with all the nonsense in the opening 35mm and then even some of the sledgehammer metaphors after that (like the green ring, garmonbozia, and the monkey face nonsene).

If he had centered it squarely on Laura, then it'd be fantastic. There's actually a great fan edit of it on youtube.
