Memories. Shopped as a child & worked as a teenager in Woolies. Mary B, Ms Davidson, the Polish Lady and many more. Mr Keith the English manager (complete turd) and of course Betty!
Was involved in removing the storeroom and opening up the DIY section to the general public and I had many hair raising moments in the store. "Chase after that shoplifter!" Chase yerself!
Sadly it lost it's way when it was seperated from its American parent company bring back FW Woolworth and Winfield!
So sad looking out my window and seeing the shop empty now. Hope they all managed to find work else where. It will never be the same without Woolies and all the friendly staff! Photo show is fantastic! Did you find another job ok Alistair?
We in the USA lost Woolworth's in 1997. In recent years, we've lost CompUSA, Circuit City, Service Merchandise, Chess King (mens wear), Just For Feet, Mervyns, Thrifty & PayLess (drug stores), and the three furniture stores of Levitz, Wickes and Seamans. Watching your video brings back memories. Thanks for posting!
Great wee video there rabadab. I used to work in Byres Rd in the 90s, still one of the best jobs I ever had. Nice to see some of the same people there like Alex, Alisdair, and that boss wummin - can't remember her name :-)
A sad loss to the community of the west end but here's to a bright future for all the staff - good luck.

WOOLWORTHS IS NOT GONE!!!
It will re-open in the Summer in Liverpool.
Only 1 store at the moment but it will grow back into the shoes it left behind.
Spread the news to all Woolworths Videos on YouTube

Fantastic store - one of the best - great team, great video. Watch it and weep, this should never have been allowed to happen.
