He's abidaxtures( how ever you spell it haha), meaning he can use either hand to write.

He is righthanded.

The reason for him to play upside down and left handed, was by a mistake... He just picked a guitar up and played, and when Stevie Ray Vaughan heard some cool bending, he isisted that Doyle should keep on playing that way, because he can do Albert King, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins licks and bends easier and better than them, and really milking the strings...

Doyle has told us so during many of his interviews :)
