what a great effort dude and you appear to be a nice modest lad - well done your family should be proud. Just done my first marathon 43yrs old now but this is starting to develop in me - could i do it???
hey well done im thinking of doing it aswell great video ive always loved swimming but have pretty much no experience of sea swimming i recently did a 10 mile indoor swim 5 hrs in all, how much pool work compared to outdoor did you do for it? nice close ups by your dad of the projectile vomit!! :o)
hi there..actually, I didn't have that much experience either, just worked up and up every day..10 miles would have taken me about 5 hours as well, that's a great great basis...the most important thing though IS getting used to the sea..it is a different world out there with the cold and the solitude but on the upside you don't have to keep turning and the time goes pretty quickly...for what its worth, i didnt do more than a 6 hour ocean swim before the big day..
Great video, thanks for posting. I'm doing my first OW swim (5K) this weekend. I've been a swimmer for years and years, but after a 15 year layoff I've started back (in Aug 08). I hope to possibly make a go of the Channel in 2010 after my 40th birthday. I want to get through this summer of several OW swims and see how it goes before makeing the big jump!
thanks very much..i threw up uncountable times. It was definitely the seasickness as I'd trained in the sea many times before but never had the problem. I guess going out as opposed to left and right over and over had an adverse effect. The time of the jellyfish comment I hadn't been stung, I was lucky as I went through a big shoal. however, as I came into Calais harbour i was stung several times on the legs....but by that point i kinda welcomed the pain to spur me on
Interesting new bio of Gertrude Ederle, first woman to swim the Channel, coming out in July - Young Woman and the Sea. VERY positive review in Publisher's Weekly of April 27.
very impressive, have been swimming for many years now and would love to try this one day, just the thought of swimming through the dark puts me off trying, but well done, great to watch, how long did it take you to train for this marathon of a swim, Congratulations, your fab.......Ally.
hi Ally...thanks for the comment..yeah, the dark wasn't the best of fun although you kinda slip into a bizarre daze and it's one of the more surreal/better moments of the swim...training was about 2 years and involved just swimming up and down, up and down, up and down various pools for 1 to 3 hours 5 days a week...although tedious, perfect hangover cures
why are there not more comments? This is very impressive. Congrats to you! In regards to Movements comment, well..i AM a swimmer..and that is still impressive to me. I consider myself to be a pretty good swimmer, and I was happy with my non-stop swim of 1.5 hrs the other day, this dude swam 16 more hours on top of that!!!!! You really have to be a swimmer to truely understand this impressive victory. Once again....hats off to you!!!
