They never even wanted to be called a Christian band but their record label got signed by Sparrow Records(a Christian label) before the release of their first album. They're Christians though, but they do not make Christian music.

Switchfoot has actually denied being a Christian band. the majority of their songs are about normal human struggles, such as depression, finding purpose, relationship problems. they also have songs about philosophy, such as Sooner or Later(Søren's Song), the Søren referenced is Søren Kierkegaard who was a Danish philosphy. But they do look at these topics from a Christian viewpoint.
