@2011nightowl Maxwell Render should work properly with this configuration. It is possible that this is more related with the scene that you are trying to render. Please let me know if it fails with a concrete scene
Maxwell is great, but not for deadline driven environments . Renders are measured in days, not minutes or hours. No way around that. So long as you know to wait 4-5 days for a render, then you won't be shocked by the time and you'll love the results.

Maxwell uses lots of CPU and RAMS so be prepared to spend on a 2X quad core or even more
Vray is much much faster compared to maxwell and suits tight deadlines at schools or offices.
Vray is not that cool for exterior arch or product design /transport design objects so you better go for maxwell if you are into ID.
Last but not least, don't fall into CG trap if you are an architect and designer .find an expert and pay him and focus on your design more than anything else.
did any1 face this problem with maxwell render, whenever i render a high resolution character maxwell crashes and says somthing like 'fatal error could not save in temp etc' But when i render at low res it works fine. Im thinking probably it might be my computer not powerful enough??
@jenskies12 Maxwell has the most realistic gi calculation on the market. they will surpass all other renderers soon. but for now you can find more plugins, materials and shaders for vray due to it's popularity.
Some may come close nothing beats it though. Yes I wait 20 hours to fully render a scene. It can afterwards go directly in my portfolio, no post production nothing. And some clients thinks there photos. When I render it with Maxwell I make something close to art. My colleagues all use other renders, but in a straight competition they have no chance against me. I like to document, prep and wait a full day to render something. As a result no one can out-render me.
@gleelash I am in love with this render.I think it is well worth buying a bigger computer just to render scenes.I need thate money.I agree with you it is worth waiting 20h if you plan to put something "trompe l'oeil" in your potfolio.I plan to ge there sometimes later this year. What are the specs of the computer you rendered the scene on and how many scenes ? resolution ?please
everyone and their grandma is doing realtime renders, Unless I can afford a super computer, I'd rather choose reliability and more features then the opportunity to navigating around a scene at .003 frames per second!
lalagabor show me one single mray work that is comparable to Maxwell's quality..... mray is a great renderer but i doubt you know how to use it and what is it meant for. Especially when you leave such childish comments.......... Sooooo unprofessional..........
lol you dip shit, you do realise that hollywood studios use mental ray for the majority of big blockbuster CGi films?
And I do know how to use mental ray, I been using Maya since version 3 on Sgi machines, so fuck you very much and being emplyed at 50k a year in the CGi industry I'm inclined to belive i know more than you.
maxwell is full of noise, it takes days and days to rendering on really nice clear usable frame.
What people DON'T tell you about maxwell is how stupidly long thye took tweaking and rendering the images.
When was the last time you saw any seriously impressive looking renders with animation?
you don't, because its so limited due to the massive time.
There is nothing UNIQUE about maxwell, it just uses a std light algorithm that just takes ages, yes it can look good, but for most people, the hardware, time and the skills they have, they should learn MR or VRAY. Byeee!
First of all i doubt you know anything about cg. Everything that you just wrote is a complete nonsense. If you were a professional cg artist, you would have some manners. With behavior like this you look more like a rebellious teenager who just started out to look into CG industry and who just read some cgtalk threads and thinks he knows everything. Mray is used in the film industry for a reason and that's the custom shaders. But it also has some drawbacks with this high customization.
It has decent quality if you are a professinal programmer and write your own shaders just like in prman, but for a single user who have tight deadlines, it is not the best choice. Of course if you have 100 cg artists behind your back and a studio like ILM, then of course it is good to go. Now that was about the speed, and now something about quality.
Mray just like many other raytracers has some biased GI methods, but it will never reach the quality of an MLT (Metropolis Light Transport) unbiased algorithm which for example Maxwell possess. Also with version 2 Mawell is now a fully stable, fast and mature MLT renderer and i can have my renders done between 20 minutes and 1 hour on my quad core pc. If I count in the time of the customization, it will be around 2 hours at most.
Now with mray by seting all the shaders and tweeking all he options needed, it would took me ages and i would stll not reach the quality of an MLT renderer simply because mray don't have an MLT algorythm. And today nothing is comparable to an MLT algorithm when we talk about a quality rendering.
Don't get me wrong. Mray is a very mature renderer and an industry leader in hollywood. But it is not the best choice for the individuals. Also i must mention that it is good for animations where you can have compromise in quality, but in for example architecture and industry where a very precise and physically correct render is needed, then it can not be competitive with MLT renderers. BTW it is clear that you know nothing about MLT algorith and about Maxwell. So stop flaming!
Hi lalagabor, you should watch Alma, a short animated film, written and directed by Spaniard Rodrigo Blass and rendered completely with Maxwell Render.
@MaxwellRenderLabs depends on what you need, but it's true: it takes forever. I don't need to do videos, but for me is really useful to see how something is going to be, so accuracy is more important than time.
@V1kToo same here, and Maxwell is SO easy an intuitive to use, that i can setup an scene, click RENDER and just go to sleep and i know that the render would be done!
@lalagabor it is the time factor that kills the appeal of this renderer . this renderer is fabulous though. but really who wants to spend ages tweeking every imagne. maxwell is best suited for stills IMHO
Too bad I can render out an entire scene in Vray 2.0 the same time it takes Maxwell to render out three frames. That looks just as good.

Vray or Maxwell? what are the downs and ups of both plugins? (rendertime, quality, etc). Sorry for my bad english.
Thx in advance,
