Its not a big deal, and they are not in pain. You just press their nostils together softly and that forces them to inhale through their mouth, in turn stopping the sneezing. Just plug her little nose for a second and it will stop it. I also do Benadryl if the allergies are really frequent.
Thank you so much for posting this, my shihtzu does this too and scares me a lot!! do you have any advice to get rid of it? she's never done it before but now she does it regulary, every day! I've been trying to get ahold of a vet at our local veterinary clinic but i don't know if it's worth it or if it actually can develop into something much worse. PLEASE HELP ME!! it really scares me when she does it!
That poor poor little baby. Thank you so much for posting this video. Our vet said our little (Shih Tzu) pup is having a reverse sneeze too. Thanks for confirming this for me. :) My vet said to give her a dropper full of children's benedryl. I'm so glad it's not neurological... :D
Thank you, this is just what my dog does. I go crazy when it happens, I hate to see her like that. I open her mouth and plug her nose to get her to breathe through her mouth and it helps, but it is heartwrenching nonetheless.
You don't need to open the airway you need to close the nasopharynx, putting your thumb on her nose and/or rubbing her throat and if need be slightly opening her mouth should stop it immediately :)
Please help her...she is losing her breath. A vet told me that these little dogs, because their noses are so short have difficulty breathing and sometimes it's like when you suck through a straw and it collapses. Whenever my shih tzus do this, I open their mouth and push down gently on their tongue. This opens the airway. Sometimes I've even had to blow directly into their nostrils. I'm just trying to help.
You all don't have to worry about her..She is fine. She only has these during allergy season here in Oklahoma. To help her, I gently place my fingers over her nostrils and squeeze them together slightly making her inhale through her mouth, and that stops it. Sometimes we have to do it a few times, but its not a health hazzard, and it doesn't cause her any damage..Just sounds awful, and scares us both..but my sweet girl is just fine..I was just posting the video to help others! Thanks everyone!
