Ishii was one of my judoka heroes so i wish him all the best, but at 5 foot 11 and 230 i think he will be better served dropping to 205, providing he can cut the weight.
LOL, an Olympic Champion transitions to MMA and dominates/finishes an opponent in his 2nd fight, and all the armchair quarterbacks have is criticism and disrespect. WTF have any of you ever won? Pie eating contests and Rock Band tournaments? Oh well, what can you expect from a sport whose fan-base is probably the least educated on the planet (well, besides NASCAR).
GREAT JOB, Ishii! Congrats to you and Haru. Hawaii is looking forward to your next match!
@Dan181 Exactly. What a bunch of goofs. This guy takes gold in heavys in one of the toughest fighting sports there is .. judo ... and now is transitioning into another mma, gets a win (after losing to a seasoned vet) and they post bullshit on the Net. Typical negative internet.
This was only his 2nd pro fight so u gotta give Ishii a break. This wasn't a super impressive performance, but he's learning fast and looked very composed in there. With more experience and training, this guy can go really far. He needs to stay in these smaller shows for awhile so he can gain experience.
@yellowsneakers234 I hope he takes it slow, the sport is a lot harder than it used to be... the average fighter is so much better and people know a lot more. Still he's probably the best prospect in the sport.
@eyesea if you have competed in judo you probably would think it a litlle bit diferent. judo is deeply strenous, the trainments are hell, in high level where he were, at least 5 rough kombats. definetly samurai fight. yes i agree when in part you say some guys know more, but this is relativ, they are specific knowledges, in the case of judo to mma is a question of adaptation. they know a lot usualy. the transition must be done slowly and carefuly,
@VYNYification i would say thats much more important to go slow with a japanese judoka because the japanese system emphasizes perfecting just a few techniques and dominating with them instead of being proficient in many techniques. for a judoka who only has a few strong techniques they are gonna have problems if it gets defended too well.
Ishii will be good, but he is not yet. No where near it in fact. You can tell he makes himself feel heavy, which will prob transfer into a nice GnP system ala Tito, but as of now his striking is horrid, there are questions about his sub skill, but damn can the guy play judo. And the guy he fought was a joke, so don't jump to conclusions so fast - kimbo would have looked godly against that guy too.
thats what i call being fucking dedicated and a monster he shouldve signed with the UFC only if dana white knew japanese and was smart about it......hes on a whole nother level when it comes all those other judo bassed MMA fighters
@sambaxrock your a faggit fuck boy shut up bitch and dont hop on his nuts when he starts dominates all of MMA like i know you will hes training with the best and is gonna be the best in about 2-3 years crazy strength and power un-believable grip like HENDO even better grip actually

@Dan181
my only complaint is in an exbidition wouldn't stop after the ref called the fight. and he beat minowa jk
but as a fighter people should stop dissing those who step into the cage. I diss chael as a person but not as a fighter or a cowerd.
