  • I just got a rerelase and it runs great! The stock electronic speed control is junk. I replaced it with a novak control and i run a 7 cell stick pack. The Hotshot hauls butt!

  • Really nice vid. Shows off the hotshot really well in the slow motion parts. Kind of reminds me of the old tamiya promotion vids from the 80's :)

  • @thegoodbear1 thanks for the comment, those promotion vids were exactly my inspiration for rc vids ive made =)

  • yeah , the best looking buggy by far !! they rocked in the 80s still do, must be a few still out there , they be worth a bit now I reckon !

  • Great video! I'm rebuilding my original 1985 Hotshot from my early teen years for my son. I haven't ran it since the 80's. Your video will serves as one of my inspiration for this project. My son is already excited. I'm just trying to find the front shock as the original one is already busted. If I can find a way to convert it to dual shocks, that'll be great too.

  • thank you for the comment!

Good luck with the re-build, post a video when you finally get it running!

  • hey is it supposed to go about as fast as the hornet, i cant really tell from this video but my 1985 hotshot feels like its going a bit slow, and the hornet has a dead gearbox so theres no way to do a side by side test.

  • Had one of these in the 80's as a teenager and loved it.

  • Wow!! very cool!! :D

    Quality video +5stars!!

  • great video ian. talo mo pa yun mga tamiya promo vids.

  • thanks joel, classic yung mga vids na yon, they're one of the reasons i got into rc!

  • i still have mine with bearings and the big motor it was a blast, i put my blackfoot body on it and used to race it at a local hobby shop and kicked ass till i got caught lol

  • Thanks for posting. brought back many fine memories of the 80's. My dad bought one then later it became mine. We put bearings through out the whole care and added a Trinity Speedworks modified motor. This thing used to haul and was a blast. Only thing was I didnt care for the red triangle wheel couplers that attached to wheel to make it spin. They were always cracking. Also the front suspension would sag or break at the pivot point at the a-arms. I had bags of those in spare parts lol.

  • best buggy ever I still got mine after 23 years and i still run it, thankfully they rereleased it so i bought another one just to have as parts!

  • Quality video.................Well done Sir.

  • Nice buggy. I have a Nichimo Pegasus Exceed, which is kinda like a hotshot clone!

  • can my baja 5b come and play with your tamiya?

  • Hey man!

Tamiya is bringing back the BOOMERANG next!

  • hellope. nice video and soundtrack. :)

the other day i found an original hotshot that my dad had had ages ago, and im trying to fix it up... yeah... just thought id tell you... hehe.

  • thanks for the comment, captain1992insano.

i'm glad you like the soundtrack - i made it especially for the video =D do check out the other videos on my channel, they all have original music scores.

good luck with the hotshot restoration!

  • When you built the car did you install the 13 or 15 tooth pinion gear?

  • thanks for the comment, fantafare.

i used the 15-tooth pinion on the initial build and for the video shoot.

if you like this video, do check out the other videos on my channel!

  • I will! How was the build on the Hot Shot? Is the kit a fun back yard basher? As you can tell, I never had one despite that I am a big Tamiya fan. Thanks again!

  • yes, it's really a lot of fun as a basher! i can't really give you an opinion on the build, except that it brought back a lot of great memories from the 80's! but it's an easy enough build, i mean compared to something like the high-lift chassis (which also isn't all that difficult - you just need to have the patience) =D

  • I get ya man! Thanks for all the replies =D

I have built a bunch of Tamiya's already; I was asking because I hear so many critics downing the car as being frail and lackluster. THE CAR SEEMS LIKE A BLAST TO ME! When I heard the bad comments I bought a SUPER CLODBUSTER instead of the HOT SHOT (I am enjoying the Clod immensely).

NOw that I saw your video, I am probably going to get a HOT SHOT and a SAND VIPER this Christmas.

  • the hotshot in its day was boss, I used to blow RC10s (which everybody was going nuts over just because it won the first world cup) away at our local club track

  • very well made video!

  • i added this to my favorites because of the music! nice one sir ian.

  • salamat!

  • like the soundtrack! really cool(=

  • thanks triggerwoman, appreciate the comment!

do check out my other videos, they all have original music =D

  • What a fantastic vehicle. Are you getting that performance out of the default RS540 Mabuchi motor, or have you got something more potent in there?

  • yes, it was running on a stock 540! the trick is to use zoom shots so you can "scale-down" the speed. it runs just as fast as any stock rc, and definitely slower than a competition kit. i'm really just into the way it looks skidding and tearing up the dirt!
