I just played the original Stones recording of this to hear it at speed. It's dead on. It's a good lesson simply because every piece should be played accurately slowly or its very unlikely it can be played fast without error. It allowed me to correct what I was doing mistakenly thinking I was correct.

You can play it either way and playing it this way doesn't make it "wrong" like some people will like to make you think, it's just different. Notes are the same. The lead is all in the C# minor pentatonic scale.
