Teach them the version in G minor. It's the original key and not as difficult. Create sheet music before you start teaching. Those mistakes you've made only make others worse. Also, using triads instead of one note as your bass line is much less annoying.

not bad for a simplified version, but might I suggest that when you play the bass F chord at the beginning, you switch it to D halfway through it. Sounds much better.

I'm currently working on the full version, which is why I came to this tutorial, but it's way too simplied for me.
