The man's a genius! Morrissey and Marr probably relied a lot more on each other than people realise, one had the riffs whilst the other had the lyrics and together they produced fantastic music that was so ahead of their time.
Sure dude, thats why I said, best pop guitarist, he is amazingly creative. Lets get real, we cannot label johnny as a folk guitarist XD. He is pop but he is deep and creative.
Eric Clapton i believe is awesome but he's not as creative as ppl like johnny marr, he usually covers other ppl's hits and makes them his own blues stuff. even with cream some of there hits were rip offs from Robert Johnson. Eric Clapton imo is more of a technical genius on guitar rather than a creative genius.
@WillClarkMusic: Gibson Duel "open coil" Humbuckers. Each pickup has two single coil pickups wired differently to produce a variety of sounds. They can be found anywhere.
@WillClarkMusic: I'm not sure if Gibson makes guitars that feature that or if you have to customize the guitar in order to do that. I know Fender makes guitars with that switching system but I don't know if Gibson does.
From standard tuning E,A,D,G,B,E you want to tune your guitar from the top string (your thickest one)
E Standard
A tune up to B (a whole tone, which is two frets)
D tune up to E (a whole tone, which is two frets)
G tune up to G# (a semitone, which is one fret)
B Standard
E Standard
Some players do shit their pants when they tighten strings up a tone or so, if this happens to you, then tune down to D tuning D,A,D,F#,A,D, & stick a capo on the 2nd fret. Sorted.
ive said it soo many times that i think he's the best british guitarist for 25-30 years, yes i agree eric clapton is highly regarded as THE best but marr's gives so much flavour and imagination in his riffs, pure class.
@TheRecon88 I could not agree more, love!!! When Johnny plays, I get chills and sometimes tear up a wee bit (okay,,, loads!!!), yet I never have that reaction to Clapton,,, EVER!
@TheRecon88 : Johnny Marr is an incredible guitarist and one of my undoubted favorites. Eric Clapton is also one of the few undisputed great guitarist of the modern age, but what about Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden. I also rank Adrian very highly and just like Johnny Marr, he has been overlooked by many critics.
@TheRecon88 Everyone says Clapton is so great, but I've always found him a damned bore. The only exception is Derek and the Dominoes. Marr is far more interesting. Totally melancholy spooky, but active and energetic. Amazing contradictions in his playing. Makes rhythm more important than lead. The guy is a picking genius.
Hey, thanks for cropping this out of the larger video. I have wanted to do that but didn't know how. Also, congratulations on your new blog, it's really great!
For years I've wondered how he played this genius stuff and now I get to see! Thank you! Headmaster Ritual is my fav Smiths song!

I love how Marr occasionally looks up in a "yeah, I wrote this. Great, aren't I?" way.

he plays pop music he doesn´t play jazz, flamenco, hard rock, heavy metal, classical, tango, folk or country, he specifically plays pop.
loombaron 1 month ago
@loombaron I guess you could call it pop it just really doesn't sound right to classify the smiths as that for some reason..
throbbingwartool 1 month ago
It doesnt matter how deep the lyrics are or how cool are some guitar riffs, Smiths genre is still pop.

@tomthefunky Thanks tom, Are they the type where the tone knobs pull and push to switch between double and single coil?

I tuned my guitar open E but every note I play the same as him it sounds different. Does he use another tuning here?

@Luistervink No it is in open E

@Coppertunes, @Luistervink It's usually played in open E tuning, but in this video Marr's guitar is tuned to open D.
