Would this still be the battery?

Now I put it into diskmode like you mentioned on the video and I'm at the part where the iPod is waiting to be fully charged so I'm just waiting for that and follow the next steps. Hopefully this fixes the problem :) Thanks!

I followed the steps on your previous video to restore the IPOD but not luck. I often get a reading that says connect to itunes to restore but still no lluck. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have any idea of what this could be?

  • Comment removed

  • will it work with an ipod mini???...

  • Hi Harry,

You seem like an Ipod guru. My ipod has apple showing and i reset with menu and select - it reboots, however when I go to disk mode ie select button and play/pause and just goes back to apple screen. turned hold on and off a couple of times before - still no joy. I have apple ipod nano 3rd gen 8GB. checked out all of your videos and none seem to quite cover this one. Cheers Witty Japes

  • may be a bad battery.

was it dropped or fell in water?

  • Hi Harry,

No I was helping someone else set up theirs and plugged mine into their laptop and since then went a little strange - saw a message once disk corrupted but since thence just apple logo. Having seen alot of repair ipod videos - would the fact that I never had disk mode enabled before the problem be an issue?

  • @harrymedan I accidently droped mine but mine stays on the apple screen

  • @harrymedan same problem, i dropped it before and it worked, it just stopped one time hasnt been dropped in water, any help would be great.

    thanks

  • if i take my ipod to an apple store, just for them to take a look at it, do they charge me or is it free?

  • i think they will unless its warranty. but im not sure. im not apple.

  • you should be because you help people fix thier ipods more than they do. and you even show us how. they make you read it.

    thanks for all your help!!

  • does this work on all ipods?

  • nanos and hard drive based ipods.

  • OMgoodness thx alott i've been trying to fix my ipod for awhile now

  • i sent you email please read it thanks.

  • when i try to charge mine it shows a pic of the power cable to charge it and a wall socket and if i try to restart it it go`s to the charging symbol where ther is a electric symbol at the begining and its one of the pics you showed please reply thnx

  • nevermind. it just started workin out of no where the other daY?

  • ok well go to the site and make a donation so we can help others.

    enjoy the music

  • where can i get those at?

  • any apple store or try ebay

  • its the ipod video nano

  • oh that explains it. nanos dont have hard drives. thats why i asked if you heard clicking sounds. only hard drives have these symptoms.

i will go back to my original advice. install a new battery. weak battery is also a sign of freezing problems

  • no its a 4gb. and it doesnt make any sounds. do you think it has to do with the battery? i bought a new wall charger and usb cord for it the other day but its still not working. did u see my video response?

  • is this a hard drive ipod or a flash memory ipod like a nano?

  • it had the low battery sign connect to power. and when i plug it in it stays on the apple sign for about 16 seconds then flashes real quick then goes back to the apple sign and so on

  • do you hear louad clicking sounds when you do this?

is this happen to be a 30gb or above 5th g video ipod?

  • and its still in disk mode. (sorry 4 all the comments)

  • when you plug the ipod into your computer diskmode should change to "do not disconnect" with a do not sign flashing.

if diskmode doesnt go away it may be your computer doesnt even know its connected. might be a bad sync cable. get a new original apple sync cable.

  • and how do i get my ipod onto my itunes because my ipod wasnt working for like 7 months so i deleted itunes and i just downloaded it again and none of that stuff pops up when i plug in my ipod? so do you know whats going on with it?

  • mine wont get out of disk mode?? what do i do?

  • my 60g is switching from an old looking battery to that battery icon. it seems when i plug it into the computer it will go to the old school looking battery icon. then it will flash the icon you show on your video or it turns off. also, when i plug it into the computer it does not recognize the ipod. what can i do to save my ipod?

  • did you fully charge it with the wall charger before you connected it to the computer? if so it sounds like it may need a new battery

  • i couldnt fully charge it. i hooked it up on the wall for a whole night and it still shows its charging. its never complete. also when i unplug it only loads half the battery icon.

    any suggestions?

  • does the ipod work at all?

  • yes like right now iam trying to charge it. it was charging for 3-4 hours and it was at its lowest battery point when i took it off the wall( it never says its completed charging even if its on the wall all night) but now when i replug it it actually charges but it will not charge all the way just about half way so i can still use it .. its just the battery isnt fully charging

  • if the battery isnt taking full charge then change the battery

  • My 80 g classic remains frozen on the apple logo. I have reset, gone to disk mode, restored, but it's still stuck on the logo....whirring and clicking and tryin to do something. Battery seems to be holding its charge. Any possible ideas or solutions?

  • thats a hard drive.

see my video on hard drive replacement. easy to do. hard drives for that model are cheap as well

  • Hey my ipod is totally the same as you're one that you are showing the white one i have a big problem ...

i put it to charge and the only thing it does is goes to battery charge symbol then after about 2 mins its goes to the apple sign then after it shows a FOLDER with a " ! " and it makes a weird sound ???? please help ????? PWEASE !!!

  • you mean the folder icon with the apple support website under it? sometimes there is one without the apple support site. just use the same techniques i show in this video for the sad face. sad face and folder icon are a result of the same problems. watch my other video on how to fix a sad face on your ipod. follow the step by step instructions how to reset and restore it to factory settings and it should be back up and running.

  • Ive tried everything, i replaced the HDD and the battery, it does stay in disk mode but it wont let me restore it, it goes back to the apple logo and the sad face and it says low battery, after i left it charging overnight. its like it connects to the pc and then it disconnects it self.... help pls....

  • did you change the battery? where did you get the hard drive? is it new? is it the right one? did you connect it right and tight? what do you mean by not letting you restore it?

  • yes i put a new battery, i got the hard drive from ebay, no its used, it said it was for an 5th gen 30gb ipod video which is the one i have, the one it had made clicking noises but this one doesn't. yeah i did connect it right and tight, when i connect it to the pc, it detects it but then it disconnects and goes back to the shifting faces.

  • ebay? used hard drive? the hard drive makes clicking sounds is a symptom of a bad hard drive. you may have gotten right hard drive for the ipod but its a broken one. if you want to replace a hard drive make sure its new not used. there is a reason why it was being sold used.

  • no the one i bought from ebay sounds good, the one that the ipod had was the one making clicking noises. but i might just buy a new one...

  • shifting screens can mean the battery is completely depleted. try plugging it into the wall and getting it into diskmode. once into diskmode let it charge while in diskmode untill fully charged. when the battery meter stops moving on the upper right hand corner meaning its charged, then unplug and plug it into your computer. restore it to factory settings and it should power up and start working again

  • battery is fully charged, left it charging in disk mode overnight, i did everything that you say in your videos... ill just get a new one maybe...

  • wait a minue. you got it into diskmode and it fully charged? so you then unplug the ipod and plug it into your computer and it starts shifting then? are you able to get it to detect to your computer as mass storage?

are you able to get through the restore process and then you get some error 1438?

i would try a different sync cable or try it on a different computer with a new installation of itunes thats the proper version of your computer's OS. this might be the problem.

  • let me tell you from experience. i have serviced over a 1000 ipods. once you get to diskmode and fully charges and computer detects it, its rare that it is a hard drive issue. it sounds like a software issue or sync cable to me. try these

  • Cool. The banging seemed to do it for me. It popped right back to life after the fourth bang.

  • when i get my ipod into the disc mode, the battery status in the top right corner appears empty- it is not moving. the screen stays like this for about a minute even after i banged it on sth. And after that it goes back to shifting from apple to battery, Am I doing sth wrong?

  • did you try the resetting method i illustrate in the video?

if the battery meter is showing empty make sure to pug it in the wall charger and wait for it to be fully charged. if it still shows empty after you unplug it, change the battery. see my battery changing video to learn how to do that. if need a battery for your ipod let me know the model of the ipod and i have one in stock for sale.

    be in touch.

  • i kno man my ipod does the same thing, i wanna use this one since i lost my pther one, plus 40GB kicks more ass than 16 GB

  • follow the instructions in the video. if you cant fix it i have some great ipods similar for sale.

    good luck.

  • i actually fixed it like legit fixed u saved me soo much money

  • does this work with sad face?? because i can get my ipod to disk mode half the time with sad face.. and i cant get it into disk mode when i plug it in

  • see my other video on how to fix a sad face.

  • Works great thanks!

  • Thanks for the reply let me see if it works later tomorrow

  • imy ipod click wheel dont stay in disk mode and when i charge it the battery sign wich has the thunder comes

    help please

  • that happens when the ipod is plugged into a computer USB. you cant charge HD large ipods in the USB. its low power. you need a wall charger.

  • on the minute 6 40 it didnt show that picture

  • what picture?

  • ya thanks i am trying it but is still wont ten on help but the disk mode stayed on the first tome i did it

  • i tried to do what you said but it continues to restart again and again....

  • try replacing the battery. if that doesnt work replace the hard drive.

  • do you have an ipod video hard drive unit?

  • I Love You, My iPod Works. Thank You Very Much!

  • No problem. please check out my other ipod videos for great below wholesale deals on ipods.

    enjoy the music.

  • i banged it 3-5 times but it doesn't stay in disk mode

  • try to get it into diskmode and while in diskmode charge it fully. it should stay in diskmode and charge while in diskmode. when the battery meter stops moving then plug it into your computer and see what happens.

  • 2. make sure the ipod is fully charged before you connect it to your computer.

    3. try a new sync cable (this is one of the main causes of this problem). make sure its an original apple cable and not a cheap generic one made for ipod hard drive based click wheel ipods.

    4. try to connect your ipod to another computer and restore and see what happens.

  • my problem is that my ipod is always on the apple sign it turns off it goes back again then i decided to restore my ipod so i did then i to update then restore after updating it ,it was restoring then it said : the ipod could not be restored an unknown error [1439] wat should i do it doesnt want restore .. plzz i want a fast reply cuz im traveling in 2 days i need my ipd cnt live with out it plzzz!!!!

  • please read the comments in my videos. i already provided some possible solutions to this problem.

    once again here they are.

    1. try to uninstall and reinstall itunes then reboot your computer. make sure the itunes software is the proper version to your computer.

  • how do i fix my ipod it goes from the apple icon to a cross with a X in it

  • a cross with an x in it? never heard of that. please be more specific.

  • when you go to reset the ipod it just keeps changing from the apple sign to a circle with a cross in it

  • oh, you mean the do not sign, not an x. is the ipod making clicking sounds when it does this?

  • yer

  • this means its not holding the detectiong to the computer. it is losing detection and gaining detection correct?

i would make sure the battery is fully charged.

if that doesnt work try a new sync cable.

  • dude omg thank you so much i bought an ipod video for 20$ and it was broken and now i fiexed it!!! thanks to you! your the best!!! ADDD THIS GUY!

  • Thank you for your comments. i am glad you were able to repair it. if you are in the market for another ipod or have a friend looking for one. i have them for sale as much as 80% off. click on my name and you will see my website and ipod for sale videos where you can check them out.

  • Note: About Entering Disk Mode.

The sequence I found best for getting into disk mode was press menu+select buttons till sad face comes and goes then quickly and before the second apple icon appears press and hold play+select. Actually I taped down some beads permanently pressing the play+select buttons once in disk mode. Because of this when disk mode was dropped it began rebooting into disk mode repeatedly and I guess eventually picked up enough charge to hold the mode.

  • try to connect it to your computer right away and see if its detected.

  • I had a problem with getting into and holding disk mode. It finally held last night and has been plugged into my computer since then. The battery indicator at the top right hand corner is full. I'm now debating whether to unplug it from from the usb port and then plug it back into the usb port to see if Itunes picks it up or if I should keep it plugged in to the computer and wait a couple of days until I get my hands on a wall charger?

  • do you have a nano by any chance?

its very hard to charge hard drive based ipod through your USB ports and without a wall charger. even if you waited a couple of days it wont matter since when you turn your computer off or it goes into sleep mode it wont charge anyhow. if the battery meter is full however, then its full anyway. it wont get more charge. ipod is built that when it fully charges it huts down and wont accept more charge.

  • I can't get my iPod 5th gen to go into disc mode. It constantly will switch from sad face to "Please wait Extremely low battery" to apple icon clicking then to sad face. I've followed the directions in this video and your 2nd video about making it stay in disc mode. Same results. I never even see anything about disc mode. Any suggestions? I've left it plugged into the wall for hours, and its just the constant cycling. HELP!

  • the ipod videos are a problem. they are generally harder to fix than the ipod classics. the reason is they are very battery intensive. the "please wait" with the little circle moving below it only happens when you plug it into the computer. I want to add that you cannot charge these battery guzzlers into the computer to charge. you need a wall charger. try this. use the resetting technique i show in the video. when you move over to holding the select and play shake it hard as you do that.

  • i followed the steps on how to fix sad face and i got it into disk mode the problem is when i hook the ipod up to the computer and start to restore it it starts to shuffle from disk mode to apple to sad face and apple again

  • i have experienced this with many ipods i serviced. this is a sign of a weak battery. make sure the battery is fully charged before you connect it to the computer by plugging it into a wall charger. this should fix it.

  • in continuation to my reply to hellomarquis:

usually, symptoms of a sad face is when it powers up. starts clicking while showing the apple logo and then shows the sad face. it usually just shuts down after this. in your case it is shifting. but in both cases you have to get rid of the sad face. to do this, follow my other video on how to fix an ipod with a sad face.

  • can u post a video that shows how to keep my ipod from shifting back and fourth betwwen the sad face and the apple icon

  • i actually already did. check my videos on ipod repair. the second part covers this problem and solutions.

any questions feel free to email and post comments.

  • if you cant turn it on how do you know its fully charged? does the battery meter display "charged"? im sorry i dont understand the second part of your problem. "it does not charge the bactry my ipod nano 3g" please explain what you mean in detail.

  • i have another problem i cant turn on my ipod when its full charged it was brand new. it does not charge the bactry my ipod nano 3g
