If you want to talk about the captial market in the middle east, then yeah, it centers around the extraction of oil. But then you might as well say that money in general is the reason why that tower is there. I don't know how you can compare Africa if not unless comparing gdp statuses.

congratulations to the citizens of dubai. As a citizen of the world I hope that this is the last tower of such magnitude and hight. Smaller is nicer both to the people in the building and for fauna. Also the building looks out of place since it lacks an arabic aesthetic touch? Why the east wants to copy of compete with the west on building that are not totally appreciated by the people of such cities? Nobody in nyc wanted the wtc in the 60's. why? the possible danger....nobody listened!

This building is so high that the temperature will be 6 degrees Celcius cooler at the top than at the bottom! And the water will boil at a temperature 3 degree cooler at the top compared to the bottom! If someone wants to suicide jump from this building, he would have to fall for 18 seconds before hitting the ground!!!
