I always find it hilarious when people try to say that it's the "Democrats controlling congress" that are responsible for a Republican President's spending habits... when the President has to sign the goddam bills or it never becomes law. Now if Reagan had vetoed every single spending bill and they were all passed by Congressional override, you might have a case, but we all know that's not true. Reagan said "deficits don't matter". And to him they didn't.
The Debt Ceiling under President Reagan was raised eighteen times to a total of $1.85 trillion (See Table 7.3). This is less than the $3 trillion-plus already raised under President Obama! Raising the Ceiling 18 times during the eight Reagan years meant a Ceiling battle every 5.3 months (on average), with an average rise of only $102 billion per increase. So… does Obama really want to get the Reagan Treatment?
@vechorik REagan more than doubled the national debt - a great achievement for a conservative. The economy and the GDP were also smaller under Reagan so the debt as percentage of the economy was quite high. Further, Reagan did not face a recession as bad as the one Obama inherited.
You'd do well to study United Nations Agenda 21 rather than blaming Republicans for everything. Republicans agreed to Agenda 21, Clinton pushed it, Bush II pushed it and Obama is REALLY pushing it. I blame most of what's wrong with America on Agenda 21, not one political party.
The debt when George W. Bush took office was $5.727 Trillion when he left it was $10.627. The debt/GDP increased by 27.1% in eight years of office (It was 83.4% when he left office).
.
Obama claims that his spending is reasonable better than Reagan. He proposed 3.7 Trillion with a deficit of 1.4 Trillion for 2011. Currently based on usdebtclock org, the debt/GDP is 97.2%. Obama in two years of office increased the debt/GDP by 13.8%.
Heritage Foundation stated that Reagan spent the least on social programs than any president in the 20th century. So then why the huge debt? What was the money spent on?
The Dems And GOP need to just have a big brawl in the senate. Mohamed Ali also talked the talk, but it was his ability to punch people in the face that made him a legendary figure in and out of the ring. Also after a good fight it doesn't take long for the participants to start finding things they agree on.

@YaoiHuntressEarth i know.... i'm getting pretty old by now. i've never been mean or dishonest enough to be like a manager. @hypnofan35 It's almost as if capitalism (especally the worst aspects) are a religion. I've also seen a lot of apathy or ignorance along with it by those that support these kinds of things and don't have jobs in those kinds of fields. "No restrictions means all business will act nice and fail on their own terms." or "We can chip in a few bucks to improve working conditions, but why should we?"
@YaoiHuntressEarth Right on Huntress!!! Tell it like it is. TRUE patriotism is about helping our COUNTRY prosper, not helping the individual prosper at the expense of everyone else.
Greed is one of the seven deadly sins, and it's killing our nation. And it all dates back to that phony, Ronald Reagan.
@Ermengarde11 Thanks. While individuality is wonderful, but I think Rachael Summers said it best, "The more power you have, the more you need limits."
Reagan was the first WACKO elected who bought into deregulation & trickle down economics. It turned out to be an abysmal failure.
His deregulation produced the S&L debacle.
And for every dollar in tax cuts for the rich it only produces about $0.40 in economic growth. Whereas every dollar spent on food stamps or unemployment insurance produces about $1.50 in economic growth.
Reagan ballooned defense spending and cut taxes on the rich nearly TRIPLING the National Debt in eight years.
Shit, the bus was off the cliff fifty years ago only everyone was so busy with self gratification to notice. I have not voted in decades. Are you all crazy??? While Regan gets the prize for selling out America to the corporate elite of a massive scale, he can't hold a candle to Bush and Obamination when it comes to the deficit. Bush increased the deficit by almost as much as all the presidents before him combined, and Obama has increased the deficit as much as all presidents before him combined, including Bush., and he still has two years to go. Will the American people ever wake up? I doubt it!
@UtwoBed Where was the bus when current admin. found it? A pschycotic, pill popping moron, a propagada producing shit for brains admin scaring all there little sheeps, and shit kickers like you voted for a retard they wanted to have beer with.
Well mr. bed wetter, the bus was found off a cliff, with a monkey at the wheel. Everybody , like larry craig, ted haggard were all having gay sex. Corporate wellfare, including the petagon. Did not mention that war that france said fuck off.
Lets see one for George Walker Bush, he doubled the National Debt in 8 years too. The Republicans talk the talk about fiscal conservatism but cannot walk the walk, what they do best is giving breaks to the rich.
I can't understand why so many conservatives idolize this man. He didn't stand for any traditional conservative principles. He was a neo-con mixed with religious right. Neither group is truly conservative. This is why I moved to the libertarian party.
@christo930 I'm not surton if you've noticed, but many conservatives don't what to acept the fact the Republican party is not almost all neo-cons. A real conseravtive will have as much in common with a Republican as a Democrat, as they are also conservative, but to a lesser degree. In my country we know with surtanty where the 4 parties stand, 1 is liberal(30%), 1 is conservative but pogresive at the same time(35%), 1 is socialist(10%) and 1 is a protest party (Blooks everythinh) (25% of house).
@dave19941000 I moved to the libertarian party for that reason and the religious right. The religious right wants to push religion on social issues and are clueless on economics and the neocons are just plain nuts. I really wish we could change the law to make it easier for 3rd parties to get on the ballet.
ok first understand i was in the military through most of reagans presidnecy...in other words i was there to see first hand the modernization of our military that was 40 years outdated. (the replacement of the 45 and m16a1 not withstanding) of course i do also believe that it could have been done cheaper, but there again is what we get for having a fiat currnecy and a private bank issuing money....bottom line is just what people like jefferson and lincoln (later of course) warned us about.
Until Dumbya and the know nothing repug Congress,I considered Reagan the worst president in history. He single handedly killed our heavy industry by allowing the Japs and the Germans to illegally dump steel into this country, thus cutting good paying jobs and weakening the Unions.
In the election Reagan easily defeated Jimmy Carter by 44 million votes to 35 million. The Republican Party also won control of the Senate for the first time in 26 years. According to Mansur Rafizadeh, the former U.S. station chief of SAVAK, the Iranian secret police, CIA agents had persuaded Khomeini not to release the American hostages until Reagan was sworn in. In fact, they were released twenty minutes after his inaugural address
@themeaningoflife38 Yep, and the media was totally in on it, too: Remember the split-screen they showed on TV right after the inauguration showing the hostages ushered up the airplane stairs and then being flown away? Yeah, THAT was sure a coincidence...NOT!
In 1980 Reagan/Bush campaign, William J. Casey and other representatives of the Reagan presidential campaign made a deal at two sets of meetings in July and August at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid with Iranians to delay the release of Americans held hostage in Iran until after the November 1980 presidential elections. Reagan’s aides promised that they would get a better deal if they waited until Carter was defeated.
@althazarr You can try to blame it on Carter, but the stubborn fact remains that under Reagan and his leadership, the national debt more than doubled.
@Ralphdraw3 I blame Carter, Reagan, and Bush, and I can certainly say the exact same thing is happening right now. The current administration has to take responsibility for what they're doing to the national debt and stop blaming the former administration. I totally agree with your statement. Thank you for saying that.
@althazarr CARTER??? Are you f'n high on drugs or something??? Under Carter, the National Debt never even reached a trillion dollars. Under Ray-gun, it zoomed to 2.6 trillion. You really need to egt your facts straight, dude.
@BobCubTAC What people fail to realize is that Reagan's fat years were largely due to Carter appointed fed chairman Paul Volker. The only credit Reagan gets there was not bowing to the pressure to fire Volker.
@Ralphdraw3 I always wondered, "why do Republicans hate Jimmy Carter so much?" I have never fully understood this until recently. The answer is less complex than I imagined. They need to make Carter the enemy in order to deify Reagan. It's kind of pathetic actually. It's like baseball fans refusing to give due credit to a starting pitcher, just because they want the closing pitcher to be the MVP.
@el100783 That's a very good point, actually. You know, the funny thing is that, while Reagan has become the God of the Republican Party, he granted amnesty to 8 million illegal aliens during his Presidency. I wonder how many of today's Repubes remember that.
@svvmichael1 LOL!!! Ronald "Magnus" couldn't handle Little Tip? SUPPLY-SIDE WAS GOING TO SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS!! MANNA FROM HEAVEN, LMAO - Ronald Magnus ended up doubling the national debt. The Real Reagan Legacy....
@Ralphdraw3 So, you are still too stupid to understand how budgets are created huh. Show me the clause in the constitution that says the president creates the budget.
@svvmichael1 Well, if the president is an ideological freak like Reagan or Bush and supports tax cuts that do nothing for our country except make deficits grow, then yeah, he sure as has is resonsible for the debt.
@Ralphdraw3 Who in there right mind, can blame it on Carter, the debt decreased under Carter, ironically, Carter is rated as one of the most conservative Presidents there have been, he also, hired the man who ended Stagflation "Paul Voelker" the guy Reagan kept to fix the economy. Carter given another term would have been better than Reagan, Carte is the only president to
1) Reduce US Debt, 2) Stay out of Foreign Wars 3) Reduce US dependence on foreign oil (did it by 1/2 in 4 years). Ironic.
@althazarr As the decades go by; Jimmy Carter keeps looking better and better. He was pretty crappy president but compared to his successors he was great.
@althazarr It was under Reagan's leadership. You also have to remember that Carter was handed a poor economy from a Republican. You Republicans have absolutely zero accountability for the mistakes that have been made.
@greggymcgurks LOL! You have no idea what party I vote for. I am not a Democrat and I'm not a Republican. Both parties choose not to take responsibility and always blame each other for everything. Ha ha, where's the responsibility today.
@greggymcgurks Part of me wonders if they won't be happy until American working conditions are like the late 1800's to early 1900's where workers were seen as nothing more than inhuman, disposable cogs (see the Radium Girls incident) who just smiled and took it because they had little choice a lot of the times.
@althazarr Hey genius, Carter only served for 4yrs. Besides, your blame of Carter is tantamount to blaming the last person who was in a parking space for the ticket YOU just got.
@althazarr Plus you have to ask yourself this if Jimmy Carter caused all of this than why didn't the deficit start to go down under Ronald Reagan? Why did it keep going up? Than you have to wonder why the deficit kept going up under Reagan a Republican but started to go down under Clinton a Democrat.
During the great depression Reagan and his father were able to find jobs thanks to FDR's programs. As a result Reagan loved FDR and was actually a Demorcrat for a while.I guess he turned to the dark side when he became an FBI informant while working in Hollywood.
Dont tell Republicans that, they'll say Obama has taken more time in his first term than Bush's entire presidecy. Just because its not true doesnt mean they wont say it lol.
@729Drew Or the crap they gave Obama for buying a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for his daughter and accusing him of wanting to ruin race relations.

I've also seen a lot of apathy or ignorance along with it by those that support these kinds of things and don't have jobs in those kinds of fields. "No restrictions means all business will act nice and fail on their own terms." or "We can chip in a few bucks to improve working conditions, but why should we?"
YaoiHuntressEarth 1 year ago

As long as they continue to offer nothing but New World Order lackey degenerates as candidates I consider the whole voting process an insult to my intelligence. I was Ron Paul as the countries only hope and I would have voted for him but when I saw the NWO media machine shut him down I gave up. Short of a massive armed revolution the U.S. is finished.

I don't get it why conservatives today praise Ronald Reagan. He is liberal by today's standards.

I doubt it!

Well mr. bed wetter, the bus was found off a cliff, with a monkey at the wheel. Everybody , like larry craig, ted haggard were all having gay sex. Corporate wellfare, including the petagon. Did not mention that war that france said fuck off.

Lets see one for George Walker Bush, he doubled the National Debt in 8 years too. The Republicans talk the talk about fiscal conservatism but cannot walk the walk, what they do best is giving breaks to the rich.
dannnynieves 1 year ago 5
I can't understand why so many conservatives idolize this man. He didn't stand for any traditional conservative principles. He was a neo-con mixed with religious right. Neither group is truly conservative. This is why I moved to the libertarian party.
christo930 1 year ago
@christo930 I'm not surton if you've noticed, but many conservatives don't what to acept the fact the Republican party is not almost all neo-cons. A real conseravtive will have as much in common with a Republican as a Democrat, as they are also conservative, but to a lesser degree. In my country we know with surtanty where the 4 parties stand, 1 is liberal(30%), 1 is conservative but pogresive at the same time(35%), 1 is socialist(10%) and 1 is a protest party (Blooks everythinh) (25% of house).
dave19941000 1 year ago

In the years between 1950-59 the tax rate was ~90% for the highest bracket.

In fact, they were released twenty minutes after his inaugural address
themeaningoflife38 1 year ago
@themeaningoflife38 Yep, and the media was totally in on it, too: Remember the split-screen they showed on TV right after the inauguration showing the hostages ushered up the airplane stairs and then being flown away? Yeah, THAT was sure a coincidence...NOT!
BobCubTAC 1 year ago
In 1980 Reagan/Bush campaign, William J. Casey and other representatives of the Reagan presidential campaign made a deal at two sets of meetings in July and August at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid with Iranians to delay the release of Americans held hostage in Iran until after the November 1980 presidential elections. Reagan’s aides promised that they would get a better deal if they waited until Carter was defeated.
themeaningoflife38 1 year ago
I guess Jimmy Carter wouldn't have had anything to do with this?
althazarr 1 year ago
@althazarr You can try to blame it on Carter, but the stubborn fact remains that under Reagan and his leadership, the national debt more than doubled.
Ralphdraw3 1 year ago 21
@Ralphdraw3 I blame Carter, Reagan, and Bush, and I can certainly say the exact same thing is happening right now. The current administration has to take responsibility for what they're doing to the national debt and stop blaming the former administration. I totally agree with your statement. Thank you for saying that.
althazarr 1 year ago
@althazarr CARTER??? Are you f'n high on drugs or something??? Under Carter, the National Debt never even reached a trillion dollars. Under Ray-gun, it zoomed to 2.6 trillion. You really need to egt your facts straight, dude.
BobCubTAC 1 year ago
@BobCubTAC What people fail to realize is that Reagan's fat years were largely due to Carter appointed fed chairman Paul Volker. The only credit Reagan gets there was not bowing to the pressure to fire Volker.
christo930 1 year ago
@Ralphdraw3 Well we had massive military spending
dukee155 1 year ago
@Ralphdraw3 I always wondered, "why do Republicans hate Jimmy Carter so much?" I have never fully understood this until recently. The answer is less complex than I imagined. They need to make Carter the enemy in order to deify Reagan. It's kind of pathetic actually. It's like baseball fans refusing to give due credit to a starting pitcher, just because they want the closing pitcher to be the MVP.
el100783 1 year ago 2
@el100783 That's a very good point, actually. You know, the funny thing is that, while Reagan has become the God of the Republican Party, he granted amnesty to 8 million illegal aliens during his Presidency. I wonder how many of today's Repubes remember that.

nafaidni 1 year ago

ArcticSlicer 1 year ago
@althazarr It was under Reagan's leadership. You also have to remember that Carter was handed a poor economy from a Republican. You Republicans have absolutely zero accountability for the mistakes that have been made.
greggymcgurks 1 year ago
@greggymcgurks LOL! You have no idea what party I vote for. I am not a Democrat and I'm not a Republican. Both parties choose not to take responsibility and always blame each other for everything. Ha ha, where's the responsibility today.
althazarr 1 year ago
@greggymcgurks Part of me wonders if they won't be happy until American working conditions are like the late 1800's to early 1900's where workers were seen as nothing more than inhuman, disposable cogs (see the Radium Girls incident) who just smiled and took it because they had little choice a lot of the times.
YaoiHuntressEarth 1 year ago
@althazarr Hey genius, Carter only served for 4yrs. Besides, your blame of Carter is tantamount to blaming the last person who was in a parking space for the ticket YOU just got.

@althazarr Explain how Jimmy Carter caused it under Regan instead of asking a Vague question about it.
You know how I can tell you watch fox news? because you phrase questions like that.
seeingglass86 1 year ago
@althazarr Plus you have to ask yourself this if Jimmy Carter caused all of this than why didn't the deficit start to go down under Ronald Reagan? Why did it keep going up? Than you have to wonder why the deficit kept going up under Reagan a Republican but started to go down under Clinton a Democrat.

He was talking reducing living standards to be deficit neutral.
I'm surprised Republicans didn't get a boner.
