i can understand you're self taught and still learning (i am too), but this is just completely wrong... also, this one is played with a pick. it makes a good, huge sonal difference. keep going!
i really wanna learn to play bass. i got lessons for christmas but i havent taken them yet. any suggestions on what to learn first? i really wanna learn songs like Cath and Summer Skin cuz im a huge DCFC fan
well, i'm actually pretty self-taught (if that's how you write it xD), but taking lessons would of course be a lot better
DCFC songs are actually pretty fun, and some of them are not too hard, but i would recomend you to start with something easier, maybe jimmy eat world, or other pop punk kind of songs, mainly because they tend to be the same notes repeated a lot of times, so they're easier to learn...
the first song i learned was always be by JEW, i actually have a vid up for it if you want to check it out. Summer skin is actually a pretty hard song, if you want to start playing some death cab i'd recomend soul meets body; it's a pretty easy and fun song
if your teacher is worth his weight you'll probably hate lessons or the first few weeks. if you want to be good, learn the fret board. it's extremely important. then learn scales. do them all on one string (forwards and backwards.) go down the strings and back up. then start doing 2 octave scales. you'll start seeing the notes and patterns to play around to make easy songs sound better.
use index and middle fingers. then, resting your wrist on the edge of the bass will slow you down in the future. (its uncomfortable for me). and leave the plucking finger on the lower string (for ex. you pluck the A string, and let the finger rest on the E string.) sounds better. :) nice though. :) that was my advice. Use it if you want. Anyway, nice moves :)

Hey man! Yeah. Lessons really do help a lot.
But just be sure to start off using the proper technique. You know....proper finger picking, and fretting correctly. But yeah!
Its fun.
And summer skin...i thought it was hard when i listened to the line, but its actually pretty easy.
I'll eventually post a video cover of it pretty soon.
Good luck with learning!
