If you want to talk about who owes who in terms of money, then perhaps you need to look into the effects that free trade agreements such as NAFTA have had in Mexico. Many millions of people have lost their livelihood (specially those in agriculture) as they cannot compete with big U.S. multi national corporations.

So I ask you my friend, who owes who?

But the US was almost as soft-hearted as we are now and LET Mexico keep half of the country, paid them several million dollars (multiply for inflation) and in general treated them pretty wellafter the war considering that Mexico launched the first attack.
