Parts of this work reminds me very much of Hollywood movie music about the pioneers wagon treks west. I bet some of Chadwick's motifs and style were copied by Hollywood composers. Thanks for posting this! Cheers!
One of the other American greats was from the south, Louis Moreau Gottschalk of New Orleans. A total original and very American in his style of creole, folk and classical elements. Not the bi-product of some high brow eastern school that was mostly influenced by European culture.

Why aren't we hearing more American music in the concert halls? Do we STILL have such an inferiority complex and continue to be intimidated by Europe--Bach, Beethoven, Mozart? Please more Chadwick, Ives and Copland!
Use this first thing Monday morning instead of, or along with, your caffeine!
Or any other time you need a lift to get out of the dumps.
Notice how the orchestral choirs trade places in the two iterations of the heartwarmer at 1:00 and 4:00.

Starting at 6;38 & to the end, the music sounds so very much like incidental and closing music to a film!

is it a "symphony with 4 movements" or a "symphonic poem with 1 movement but in 4 part"?
masterclassicalmusic 1 year ago
@masterclassicalmusic It's more 4 seperate symphonic poems each with their own title. They can be performed seperately.
