Sherrod is an example of how the school system is failing. If you recall, Bubbles encouraged Sherrod to return to school. Sherrod was then told that he would have to be bumped a few grades higher due to the fact that the school cannot hold students in lower grades; regardless if they are behind in development. This "social promotion" really takes a toll on Sherrod, as the material that he's given in school is just simply beyond his current mental capability.
