I don't remember being asked if I wanted the Westminster Parliament, but it still governs my life - even if it is technically subordinate to the "divinely appointed" monarch.
The EU parliament does not have an opposition because it does not have a government - because the voting system makes it much harder for one group to get an overall majority and steamroller through legislation.
The propoesed legislation comes from the commission, who are selected by parliament (who are elected) - much like the cabinet are selected by the Prime Minister, only more democratic, since the whole of Parliament gets a vote on the commissioners, not just one individual.
I don't understand what you mean about voting rights.
It is possible to be a citizen of Europe and a citizen of a nation-state at the same time.
Since the majority of people who voted in the last EU elections (and indeed the last UK election) voted for a party that supported the Lisbon treaty, Brussels aren't exactly ignoring people - it's more the case that people are ignoring Brussels (by not voting, or by voting for parties who they don't actually agree with).
And if you want MPs with large salaries showing signs of corruption, you don't have to go all the way to Brussels.
If citizens vote for the "WAI D" Your decision party. Citizens will be in charge.
Only one commitment.
The candidates of the movement, if elected as MEPs, will undertake at their own expense the creation of an internet site where citizens will have the chance to express, their own opinions.
The citizen will have the opportunity to propose laws and amendments and to give orders directly to their own MEP, putting to the vote of other citizens their own proposals and ideas.
It is the much-despised Lisbon Treaty/Constitution that will enslave us to multinationals.
IF you don`t believe me then check out the anti-Lisbon campaign on you-tube OR ask yourself WHY the un-elected commission tried to force gene manipulated crops onto the European market.
Well if the Lisbon Treaty had gone through, the scope of powers available to the un-elected commission - as opposed to the elected parliament - would have been drastically reduced. But no. Didn't happen.
I meant EU politics of course. Europe is not the isolated white continent we see on TV. One day I took my little sister from daycare in Germany. Almost all children had parents not born in Germany. Indians, Polish, Ghanian, British, Brazilian, Turkish, Arab, Slaw. All were smart and fluent in German and their mother tongue. 20% of the population in Germany come from migrant families or are migrants.
@eireboy17 This is communism! It's sick! Trade unions, NGOs (not government legit) and the UN and Foundations, to return us to the oligarchy in a plutocracy. Wake up Americans, these people need to be arrested and tossed from the country.
Go European Socialists !

The EU parliament is not legitimate.
No-one was asked if they wanted it.
It does not have an opposition.
Proposed legislation doesn't originate in the parliament but from an un-elected commission.
The system of voting rights is un-democratic.
The parliament does not have citizens/voters of it's own but has to borrow them from nation states.
Brussels is DEAF to the opinions of Europeans on big issues like the Lisbon Treaty or enlargement .
Their salaries are bloated and corruption is rife.

True. The EU has zero legitimacy, is undemocratic, corrupt and deaf to the concerns of ordinary people.

Agreed with you Hardinia.
They don't vote because they say it's corrupted while having no proofs of what they say, so why do they complain and care?
If you don't want to vote, fine then I'll vote for you but don't complain after...
