  • Do you like Troy Bilt?

  • would you happen to have a v twin briggs i need one to replace my old worn out motor on my murray it is leaking oil, it's carb is only running the one cylinder, and it is about 17 years old. i don't have much money but i will trade you my old one and another engine i got an 11 horse briggs engine for a craftsmen it is the only engine that i have not had problems with, it's starter has been rebuilt with a new starter gear and so has the murray's starter if you can please contact me. 14gco

  • I just thought about Carl from Sling Blade, I could picture him hollering at you guys, "IT AIN'T GOT NO GAS IN IT", hehe.

  • I know this was done years ago, but could you show the fix you made to the ELS air intake design ... and can you comment on whether it seems to be working now?

    Thanks!

  • how much does it cost to rebuild thing engine?

  • y dose it die down wen u put it into reverse

  • thats not a briggs motor its a craftsman

  • do you guys have a 12 hp i/c briggs??? i need a motor cause mind suks and doesnt start.

  • sweet! except for that stupid air filter design. I'm sure you guys already took care of that though. but hey it's a nice powerful engine and that seems like a nice tractor. and ya gotta love that PTO placement! lol. That engine sounds very loud though is it?

  • If anyone is in need of new Tractor Manuals, yu can download them here for free ++ tractorrepairmanual (dot) net ++

  • man,i really like the body of that lawn tractor

I like the hood alot too,it would be nice to put a bumper on it without it having to stick out a few feet because of the one-peice-hoods.

oh and ya got to love a 26 v twin briggs!!

  • @Mississippi1313 Yeah I got an MTD bumper for it at Lowe's, it looks good!

  • nice!!!

I want to get a bumper but i can't find anybody that sells them.

    But,i haven't tried Lowe's.

I'll go tomorrow and see if they have them, thanks for the idea =D

  • Jethro Tull FTW!!

  • it's surging like crazy. it's too lean.

  • @the5445 yeah it ran out of gas. It still did the surging thing for a minute after filling it with gas again, but then it smoothed out as you can hear in the vid.

  • @LynolsOffice yea

  • wat did u do wit the deck?

  • It's in the shed somewhere. We don't use this one to mow.

  • You need some drag pipes for that V-twin.

  • i had a 1999 troy bilt gtx2446 garden tractor i still have it i have7,953 hours on it and it still gos but i got husqvarna lgt2554 love that tractor

  • My lawn mower is an OHV engine also

  • the kill switch under the seat it needs hooked up thats why it quits most likely

  • I had a wizard that lasted 12 years...not a bad tractor for the price. I also had a few john deeres that crapped out on me. Finally I gave in and bought a new ingersoll 4018. The ingersoll puts all else to shame. BUT, I would'nt mind owning a wizard again. Wanna sell?

  • gass grass or ass

  • help me please. my dad is in the naborhood of buying a tractor.he likes the 2009 troy built supper bronco.would you recemend it.thanks,Brandon

  • I dunno, I would stay away from ANYTHING made by MTD. That includes Troy-Bilt, Bolens, Yard Machines, Yard Man, Cub Cadet, and White. Their materials are so cheap and flimsy, and build quality is just as bad. Go with pretty much anything else. The Snapper/Simplicity tractors are pretty well built, and the Snappers are not too much $. The John Deeres are good too, and the Craftsman tractors are pretty good for the price, and better made than the MTDs.

  • ok thanks.

  • Bolens used to be great, I have a 1991 Bolens ST120, and Cub Cadets are still great, the old Troy Built's are good too, but the new MTD's like the new bolens are crapppppp

  • look for a husqvarna ride on their excelent mowers !

  • yea my dad wants a craftsman yt3000 yard tractor.

  • I think the problem was beyond the air cleaners. When rebuilding my V-Twin, I noticed that the rings were different in design. These engines are beastly, but it's a shame the two-barrel carb doesn't have any adjustments.

  • how much did it cost you for that engine?

  • I think $135 after shipping.

  • really? where did you get it so cheap?

  • eBay. But it didn't come rebuilt, WE had to rebuild it.

  • aww that sucks. what did you have to do to get it going again?

  • New connecting rods (only one was damaged, but we replaced both), one new piston, and a new-used crankshaft. And of course new rings.

  • ill buy it if you sell it the wizard with the 26 hp

  • how fast would this engine be on a go kart<<

  • holy shit 26 briggs

  • This tractor and Troy Bilt are made by MTD. They make a whole bunch of different brands. The trans on this isn't exactly a hydro, but a variable drive system on a 2 speed trans.

  • i have an old wizard 14hp 44 cut .bought $200.50. got a craftsman and don't know how to wire the engine back both briggs. would i beable to look at the wizard and figure it out

  • gotta love your briggs Extended Lie Series!

  • ur lucky i have 7 speed shift on the go tranny i want the foot peadels.

  • how dose a transmatic work cause i have the same kind of tranny in my mtd i cant fugere it out is ther only 2gears or dose it have to do with the clutch

  • Yeah the trans only has 2 speeds. (forward and reverse) It's all in the clutch pedal. It moves a pulley, thus changing the speed.

  • Haha I was expecting the stupid design flaw to wack him in the knee... I guess not haha

  • hey what the site for the MTD engines or whatever

  • MTD's parts/support website is buymtdonline . com

  • how many hondas do you have

  • Currently we have 4 Hondas: a 3813 and a 4213 both liquid cooled, a Harmony 2013, and a rear engine 3009.

  • is it hydrostatic?

  • Technically no, It's a variable pulley system. But the transaxle itself has only two speeds: forward and reverse. MTD calls it Transmatic.

  • oh cool

  • 26hp B&S air cooled eh? water cooled is better but why was it revving up and down at 3:34 to 3:45 and 5:15 to 5:34?

  • It was revving like that from 3:34 to 3:35 because it was running out of gas, that's why it stalled at 3:45. And from 5:15 to 5:34 it was going up and down because it was still sucking air through the empty gas line because it was run dry.

  • Even though we were just discussing the design flaw, I would totally buy this mower from you...the things' a beast!

  • Yeah it's one of our favorite pulling tractors. The pedal drive makes it so nice.

  • Dose that not have a blade on it?

  • It doesn't have a deck on it, we don't use this one for cutting. (it did come with a 46" deck though)

  • Does that 26hp have oil pressure lubrication with oil filter?

  • Yeah, full pressure lubed crankshaft with oil filter.

  • i have a 17.5 horse huskee that used to run fine but now im not getting any spark at all. got any advice

  • Did it stop sparking all of the sudden, or after sitting for a while? Could be anything... a bad magneto, a shorted wire... Kohlers have ignition modules, could be that if it's a Kohler...

  • my dad tried to start it he said it hit once but thats it. its got a tecumseh engine in it but it used to run fine

  • Awesome video. You've got me wanting a Wizard now.

  • thats alot of horses for a little tractor like that. nice little power plant though and i bet nothing bogs that machine down.

  • I just got done rebuilding this same engine. Took pistons and rods. The main problem was locating an exhaust manifold. I was a little dissapointed with the idle, because these to run fast and lean. At least with the old engines, the idle jet was adjustable and wasn't so finicky.

  • That is awesome! One of Briggs & Strattons top-end motors on a (sort of) top-end tractor - you guys should be proud! That Wizard will be able to haul some weight now!

So, what are you gonna do with the old 16 HP opposed that was on the Wiz?

  • I think it's the largest non-commercial vertical shaft motor they sell. This tractors got lots of power now, but I think I need some better rear tires to get more traction. As for the 16hp, I have no idea what I'll do with it now. All of the sudden, the opposed twins seem old-fashioned and obsolete. I want to put a twin on that big green Rally we have, but I think I'll use the 18hp opposed from the Original LT1000 when I upgrade that to the 22hp V-Twin we bought.

  • Try looking for a set of AG tires - thatll get y some traction.

The positive benefits for OHV twins is they can be modded for more power ( adjustable valetrain upgrades)- old flatheads are pretty much limited. Im hoping sometime to come across a V twin to add to my opposed twin collection.

  • Great video, and great job on the restore. That seems to run pretty good, and it moves pretty good too. Little bit of advice for the other guy, when a mower runs out of fuel, it needs to get the new fuel through the line and into the carb, despite the fact the engine is warm, you should choke the engine to help pull the gas up there. Cranking over 3 seconds is not good on the starter.

  • Congradulations on getting the largest engine at your place, thats cool. I am a member of a tractor forum so I have access to information all the time. FYI, those are the orginal design V-twin engines and these have air filter sealing issues which cause dirt to get into the carb and then into the engine and ruin the rings. I think you won't have to worry about it if your not running it in dusty conditions though. Again great video, it was entertaining.

    Peace :)

  • nice to finally see the wizard up and runnning again. should be able to tow just about anything around the yard now!

  • wats the biggest motor you have witha tractor-ps that is an awsome tractor

  • Yeah it's the biggest we have by far.

  • Cool video- tractor runs great now!

I have a few teccy engines( on my bench)- this one 16HP with oil pressure im gonna use on my old modifed wizard.

Most teccy motors today are just on snowblowers.

So the wizard's just gonna be a tow tractor for other projects?

You guys ever thot of building a workshop out back? Might be easier then dragging them to the garage.

  • We've got another shed back there now. A 10x14 metal shed. I want to put a bench in it. But down in the garage we've got electricity and a bathroom, so it's probably the best place ot work on them. (plus we can install motors at 11pm and not have to be in the woods with wild animals!)

  • oo ok cool

  • hay do you know if tecumsehs now a days are reliable cuz i was thinking about getting a mtd with a 13.5 tec

  • As far as I know they still suck; almost no one uses them on tractors now a days.
