I remember watching them on PBS an Evening at Pops. I was 14 but I remember the show they performed Rout 66 and Candy...Don't remember seeing this song back then but I'm glad to see it now. I wish I could see the full performance of that PBS program but I haven't been able to find it.
THIS is my favorite jazz vocal group....their harmonies are unmatched by any other singing group out there....IF today's 'artists' using the term veeeeeerrrrry loosely, here, could remotely come close to being in the same 'city that holds the musical ballpark' the manhattan transfer is in, then good music would be heard on the radio again!!! Just, excellent!!!!
I was playing in this concert...it remains in my memory of a 40 year career as a symphony musician as a high-light. It was in spring 1984...I remember that too well because it was right after my wife left me and this sort of musical experience kept me going. (BTW the trumpet soloist at the end of the tune was a dear friend who too soon after died while recovering from anesthesia for a back problem. So this video is really loaded for me!
SIMPLY GREAT --THEY CAN DO IT ALL,FROM DO-WOPP TO SWING.THIS IS VOCAL HARMONY AT ITS BEST--GREAT VERSION OF THE HARPTONES HIT.THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING...........
I keep listening and singing to this song over and over again and it never get's old! What a beautiful song, gives me shivers every time I listen to it!
Manhattan Transfer's vocal skills certainly do justice to this old Willie Winfield & the Harptones gem; I think even Willie and Dempsey would've cheered at this homage.
Nice! I'm guessing this was from the late 1970's?!
John Williams, conducting the Boston Pops, is really digging this. Most people don't know he's got a very strong jazz background, in the midst of all that scoring he's done for movies.
What a magical moment haveing the Boston Pops back you up

Beautiful, so glad I found this one. Alan Paul looks like a young Pierce Brosnan.
I love this video. What an incredible sound they had and still have, perfect harmony.
Manhattan Transfer are like a cool summer breeze, romantic and incredibly sensuous.

Yeah, John Williams conducted the Pops for most of the 80s and 90s.

My 82 year old aunt turned me onto this performance. She is right--it is terrific. A-One!

I saw the Perf., from 1983, & it was just magic, hearing this materful remake of a Doo-Wop oldie. The MT are just incomparable. Wolfsky9

Beautiful. This is one of their most underrated songs, in terms of radio airplay. Thanks for posting!

Loved Manhattan Transfer. The first time I ever saw them was on the Mike Douglas Show.
They have a subtle sensual quality about them.
So smooth and inviting!
Great post!!!
Many thanks for that!
