  • Sawka is truly inspirational

  • *filth

  • thats sum nice filt. mmmmmmm

  • WIndyjunglehaus

  • c'est du très très très grand art

  • I find genre arguments boring. This guy plays drums, I hear bass and it's about 140bpm. That's as far as i care. Talented musician, good video and good title!

  • Come see him at our venue In Houston tx!!!

    Friday, May 6 at 8:00pm - May 7 at 2:00am

    The Orchid

1503 Chartres Street Houston, TX 77003

    Houston, TX

  • sort of like if Brian Chippendale was raised in the UK and traded in his mask for camouflage cargo pants

  • I fail to see the talent, dub step isnt a collection of bullshit. Im sorry

  • i appreciate it but the fiddling with 2 hands to 1 just annoys me sooooo much!!!

o and btw people this is dubstep!!!

  • i appreciate it but the fiddling with 2 hands to 1 just annoys me sooooo much!!!

  • this doesn't even fucking sound like DnB! Can he even drum to Pendulums older shit?

  • This is filthy. What a talented individual. Clearly in his element.

  • @ahffk

Exactly, his synths and electronics are as much part of his drum kit as his symbols are, I think instrumental traditionalists who cant comprehend music beyond the drum guitar singer combination will never be able to appreciate just how difficult this kind of music is to understand. I think they feel that there just pre recorded sounds that do most of the work but its really not. It's a sound which appears to be mechanical but it's tone and beat are all controlled by the drummer live, im

  • ofcourse not. Jesus is way cooler. KJ is still pretty cool tho. Probably right up there with Ringo Star :)

  • kj rocks. ive got several of his dnb records. spanning a while too. keep it coming.

  • sounds like dubstep

  • i love the way that the only thing ive seen on the pendulum twitter accounts is that he bought a sword, and was playing with it on his tour bus. sweet drumming

  • pendulum is nothing compared to this sound. pendulum is too mainstream bullshit.

  • Reminds me of Distance - V Nice Work.

  • that blast he stuck in there is the shit. i bet he'd make a beastly metal drummer. but i do love what he does.

  • Congratz with bein the new pendulum drummer, hope it will make pendulum more interesting with your skills!

  • This can do stuff.

    Good stuff.

    Amazing stuff.

  • Why did he join with pendulum, they're total shit.

  • @mahkind he's gonna get a bit more exposed now, that's for sure

and i'm really eager to hear how will he perform live with them

  • @mahkind Dude shut up pendulums awesome!!!!!!!!! And its not your choise mkay?

  • I'd imagine cos they're top of the pile in their genre meaning they get the highest paid/highest profile gigs... its a job at the end of the day

  • @mahkind I'd guess because they are the top of the pile in that genre meaning they get the highest profile/highest paid gigs... Its his job at the end of the day

  • Hes the new drummer for Pendulum :)

  • Sounds like Brain from Primus, Fucking SICK.

  • doing it big

  • Fuck yes, this is what i call music, performance and a show. Just how its supposed to be!

  • Yeah this some step alright...and for the last fucking time dub step is not hip hop based...its based from the uk garage scene...fucking christ

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL)))

  • Fucking sickness....

  • This is pretty hardcore, awesome drumming!

  • Wow that tune is mighty.

  • KJ Sawka rocks the houzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • That was cooooo!

  • Haha - yeah right. Your mom doesn't flow at all.

  • This is dope, Fuck ALL HATERS

  • It's drum and bass innit !!!

  • Comment removed

  • is it a kaosspad to his left?

  • Kaoss Pad KP2. I have a KP3.

  • it really sounds like dubstep, but i think dubstep is more hip hop influeded.

  • Right. Dub-step is a lot calmer. In that, I mean a lot less is going on, and its more of a constant beat, instead of random beats. The background track could definitely be used in some dub-step though.

  • some fat dubstepp here :P

  • Great skill, but the overall "music" doesn't move me.

I love drum n' bass and electronic music.... this maybe needs some further development.

  • what kind of thing is it he rides on at the beginning, is it a cymbal or what?

I mean the big round thing, right in the middle of the kit.

  • Funny that you say he "rides" on it, because it's a ride cymbal lol.

  • he sounds like brain from primus on this track.

  • its dubstep

  • Kooler than Jesus.

  • @Damageplan01 and KJ Sawka is not made up either

  • This song is so fucking amazing...

Words can not describe how beautiful and powerful this song is.

Does this have a name by chance? And if so, would any of you happen to know what it's called?

    Thanks.

  • I love the lights triggered by his playing! Adds an extra element to his very 'LIVE' style of music. He now has samples, synths and ambient on his laptop, live acoustic drums and visual lights!

    I love this guy's work.

  • the world doesn't deserve this guy....

  • YEAHHHH

  • LOL at how maybe 3 people cheer at the end... that was fucking amazing, how were they not cheering more?

  • they were speechless what you expect :D

  • which style of music is this

  • jungle / dnb

  • Improvised Drum and Bass !

  • No matter what video I see of Kevin, I always have to pick my jaw up off the floor. The kid is absolutely amazing.

  • Was wondering when the breed of current DnB known drumemrs would start smacking the dubstep too. Roll on BangFace!

  • Sounds like Distance - V

  • I love you KJ!

    :D

  • amazing man come to malta

  • Now, with the modern miracle of cloning, if KJ would consider adding an extra arm to his body, imagine what this guy could do :)

    Absolutely amazing.

  • talk about multi-tasking........

  • saweet!

  • the drumsounds are awesome, I should sample them :p

  • Is that an ESX at the front?

  • wow

  • Again, a very quality job.

  • It is only a 5 minute track...he played for about 5 hours total this night doing 3 differnt sets. You should check out the other clips from this night... I added some to the video responses. What do you think of these?

  • 5 hours.... o___X

I just love what he does, but he's not human!!!! lol

  • @vcpublications 5 hours!? Goodamn!

  • You see - the bassline was sort of repetitive but there were a lot of other bits that made it interesting, and he did chop the bassline up from time to time. You should listen to it and feel it, not just think about stuff that you would've done differently...

  • @adelicateflower08

you have to understand this from the point of the view of the drum n bass genre, not just overall drumming like rock or pop

dnb is electronic music and a subgenre of techno, which is all about long repetitive sets. electronic mixes are always a few hours long of a mins upon mins of consistent basslines and drum patterns. its just the way this type of music is.

you have to think of him less like a drummer and more like a DJ playing a 5hr long party. a live producer perhaps

  • @adelicateflower08, i get wot ur sayin but its drum and bass, there's normally only 1 or 2 basslines in a tune anyway...

  • Pure brialliance

  • that's my second drums slap, the first one was from dennis chambers

  • saw him at a club live, insaaaayne. one hell of a spectecal dude is fo real

  • I love how he snuck in that blast beat at 0:37. That was awesome.

  • 1:30.. no words..

  • I would rather listen to Jojo Mayer, but this guy has some mad skill too. They are quite different, I suppose...but there are many similarities in what they do too.

  • Both are really good but Mike Clark is my hero.

  • sick

  • Amazing.

  • Pure awesome.

  • ass blaztin' disastrouz!!!!!

  • These are wicked skills. Composing a track out of electronic elements, and drumming like that AT THE SAME TIME is frikkin awesome.

  • wow...simply talented

  • Pretty wicked !!

    Good drummer !!

  • and here I go, calling myself a live PA...

now THIS is a live performing ARTIST. wicked !

  • this is GREAT..

    man.. some great stuff

  • awesome stuff

  • d2paul.

This takes PURE skill. You on your computer ripping off other people's mixes dont.

    trolls ftmfl

  • d2paul is fucking dumb. It would be cool to see a pre-produced bass line recorded with drums over top though rather than having to use the comp while playing. I absolutely love the drums though.

  • :-DDD

    greatttttt KJ!

    just a one man show!!

    great sound ideas!!!

  • you are not very intelligent. stop commenting before you make yourself look like anymore of a fool. i make lots of computer beats, and ive also been drumming since i was very young, and i must say your comment displays a huge lack of musical knowledge or experience. if you may of noticed, he is sampling his own drum kit live and using many layers of beats, not to mention effecting the beats live. to be able to sequence a beat live on a computer and play a beat at the same time takes serious skill

  • You're obviously not a musician, d2paul. Who taught you how to appreciate music and performance art? They failed.

  • dude man, you make us koreans look bad. you call yourself an electronica musician, yet you have no idea what music even is. i bet you couldn't do what sawka is doing if you're life depended on it.

  • nope, u cant do it on a computer... unless u rip the beat u cant make it sound the same. besides he's half drummer half DJ (or sumfin...) of course anybody could hit the PLAY button on their stereo and call themselves musicians lol

  • a dj is a disc-jockey...so somebody who plays or example vinyl or cds...

    he's 2 musicians in one

  • Seen that I'm a DJ/digital composer I might know what DJ means, thank you... I mean, there's nothing like the live sound. Besides I said DJ OR SOMETHING - so read carefully before flooding me with thumbs down (though I expect the same as before for this reply...)

  • don't get me wrong, i agree with you. i just wanted to clarify the term DJ. just wanted t say he's more a musician than a DJ. djs use music mostly done by other perons and createshis own music. this guy here uses his own music to produce his own music.

sorry for my comment, ithink you know whataa dj is, but maybeother people don't

  • ok im glad we finally came to an agreement :D

  • me too^^

  • DJ's are musicians too...

  • that's what i said...a real DJ creates out of music his own music

  • You don't consider that there are also DJs who produce/make their own music aside from DJing.

  • doesn't anybody understand me?

of course they make their own music sometimes...but when they produce their music, their a producer AND a DJ...not only a DJ

what i wanted to say...a DJ uses music (maybe sometimes his music, but often the music of others) to create a mix...which is also a kind of music creation-thing, but i think they're still no musicians unless they play their music "live"...so they use a synthesizer, drum machine etc.

  • Brietzmann speaks nothing but truth.

  • finally :)

  • Not the brightest claims though... ;)

Of course you're not creating music when you're mixing - it's kind of obvious.

But mixing is an ART just like music. You're creating CONTEXT and ATMOSPHERE. It's a whole lot different, but mixing is still an art form!

But again most DJ's don't know that, so they're neither artists, nor musicians, I'll agree with that much.

  • i agree with you, i'm a DJ myself ;)

  • Good for you! Cheers! :)

  • I like to think of it as image in general rather than just context and atmosphere, but other than that I completely agree.

  • Well imagery is ONE thing, but art can be many things (most of which don't include images). You just feel it as an image, but we all know that images make you feel something. Therefore - art is the expression of feelings. Think about it :)

  • oh I see what you're saying. At first I just saw context and atmosphere, but knowing the word art was thrown in there, now I see what you're trying to say. Very deep man ;)

  • yeah i feel the same about some dj's

  • its called drumming.have you ever heard of that before? any random child could write beats on a computer with a program doing it for you. this guy has talent , he actually understands the rhythms he is playing. i bet the music you make is rubbish. especially since you dont understand drumming hahaha.. you need to stfu.

  • that was amazing

  • Just a small taste of what KJ can do!

  • holy shit! drumming with one arm and backing on the laptop with the other... jesus

  • this guy is so insane. it's cool how he records sounds as he goes and incorporates it into his beats.

  • amazing drumming

  • Unbelievable. When he starts playing it like its a record being wound backwards, that shit is uncontested. I'm disappointed about all the times I've missed him here in Vegas.

  • what will it take to convince you to take your head out of your ass?

  • tabbadab is just mad cause the only rhythm he has is his hand slapping his nuts.

  • LMAO!!

  • or his father's^^

  • I finally found his cd's on Itunes...fucking awesome

  • 1:42

  • absolutely ridiculous! KJ Sawka puts many drummers to shame with just one hand. awesome stuff

  • Seriously, he even makes Travis Barker look bad.

  • that was a seriously cool song.

  • holy shit, kevin!! this rocks. sounds kinda like primus, but even more kick ass.

  • he is a machine awesome!

  • HE IS F**KIN CRAZY. real masta

  • next level

  • amazing

  • sick nasty!
