Kathy Bates, JJ Leigh, Christopher Plummer and Ms. Prafitt have such a perfect chemistry in their roles in this film they should have won awards together. The characters are so rich and they play their roles with excellent subtext. They could have walked into another script and continued in their roles and it would ahve been believable.

how in the WORLD did the blonde lady from CASINO get nominated for an OSCAR for her acting over Kathy's amazing performance in this classic? Oh, that's right, the blonde is smokin' hot.

Bates was robbed. She is literally - phenomenal in her portrayal as this disgruntled bitter and hard working mother of her daughter who had a tortured childhood.

I don't know why this trailer had such a profound impact on me as a child but it has haunted me for 12 years. I remember the Ordinary People theme, the image of someone falling down a staircase, and Kathy Bates finding Jennifer Jason Leigh inside the house at the end. It's stuck with me all these years.

Kathy Bates was amazing in Stephen King's other adaptation, "Misery".

I remember staying up late as a ten year old to see the David Letterman show and seeing this trailer. It scared the hell out of me. It has such an incredible atmosphere to it and years later I have the Ordinary People theme that used for this trailer stuck in my head and I get shivers down my spine.
