Dude its a game thats why no one is doing research to learn how to play. You people take stuff like this too serious. Games are ment to be played and you learn through experience.
@MrCalebSpradling yes but i have seen sooo many max levels who run around like they dont understand that getting bonuses for being stealthy soooo they dont learn from experience
When i started playing brotherhood (got it late) i had been watching youtube videos for 1 ½ mounth. I won all my first 8 games (many with level 50s) just youtube-skills
i hated this mode initially cuz of runners, but after watching strategy videos on youtube, i enjoy it now despite runners (plus i love the naked stuns i get off them). sadly, im not a big fan of the matchmaking system for team modes and dislike manhunt whereas before i loved it in brotherhood
Even without YT you can have the proper tactics. Most, if not all, of the times the game itself provides you with the essentials as to how to play it properly--as it's meant to be played. I mean, come on, everything in AC screams be stealthy--you get more points if you wait for your detection meter to build up, it lowers pretty quickly when you run in line of sight, and in this SA mode there's that big "KILL-ME" icon above your head if you run when you have the artifact. LOGIC is your friend LOL
You're exactly right. Why do new players to the game just run around instead of playing the mode as intended. I can teamkill the entire match in COD but is that an intended mechanic for all Hardcore game modes? No. It's a great point and not one that should be blown off.
Great Video. Every game is going to have players that are new to the formula, and then there are new players that just want to play how they feel is fun (either disregarding the formula or they are unaware of it). If they want to runaround and be obvious, let 'em, it's their loss, and maybe they'll learn better approaches from it. I like the Halo matchmaking idea, but don't want to see it for ACIII. Because I'd rather Ubi focus on server issues, but maybe A.C.V
Great vid esco, i think most of the crowd these days are casual players that don't care about strategy and they will just go and do what they find fun. it's fustrating but i predict it will get worse. btw the new intro is awesome!
Today I was playing deathmach and EVERYONE was on the roofs and you had to get up kill the person get killed via air assassination and it was annoying
I would much prefer the game taking time to match me up, even against noobs or experienced players, if it meant that I wasn't running into lag. Fast matchmaking is all well and nice, but it's also where most of the players' frustrations come from too. I would also like it if they didn't split people up in Team modes so often, maybe if they divided teams until they had a full lobby, and then placed the pre-made team on one, even if they had to play seperated for one match.
When it comes down to it I think I prefer the new matchmaking-- though it definitely has its flaws. I often don't have much time to spare, so the faster system is much preferred over ACB's, which took me at least thirty minutes, sometimes even an hour to get into anything (that is, if I could even stay connected). A lot of times, after all that waiting, I got thrown into a terrible lobby xD But I took whatever I could get.
I'm actually one of the people that would quit because I don't want to dominate a low level lobby. However, I'm an adult with somewhat no time. Man,...that's a difficult choice. faster games or an even playing field...?
In short you should have a choice to play against or with friends in team lobbys. Watched a vid with you and shenmue36 and he complained how it took awhile to match up with you on the same team. Secondly you started me on watching vids to learn tactics and such and I thank you for your time. Stunning my main objective patients second. And third,I dont mind noobs. Even some players prestige 10 I've beat. Some noobs suprisingly can be good. Its all how you play.
Agree. Ubisoft should do some with the points system to give a bonus to people who hide. Right now there is only a 25 point difference between hidden and possession. Either they should increase the hidden bonus or give both hidden and possession bonus to players who hide.
I think the point Ubi are trying to make with Steal the Artifact and Corruption is "these are modes where you hide, rather then go on a murderspree" but unfortunately thats not signposted nearly enough for some people, which is why you get people kiting the lobby around the edge of the map in StA racking up the proximity points ><
For both Brotherhood and Revelations I watched tons of videos before I got the game for PC so I'd have a clue as to what I should do. The RDM is supposed to stop people running, but if they were runners before when you could easily get an Incognito, what's to stop them now with the RDM? Corruption and this mode are the worst for that. At least in Artifact Assault, the running makes sense. But not a lot of people seem to try and learn.
The best mode you can play until you reach level 20 is,in my opinion,Simple Deathmatch. So,until then, stay away from these modes because they will ruin your experience.Anyway, nice video Esco!
i do the same thing Esco, when I get a new game (usually after I play it for the first time or when I'm thinking of getting it) I YouTube it and Google it for numerous reviews and gameplay videos to see whether or not it is good and how to play it ideally!
I just like that you can play against anyone, because nobody really likes playing against good players all the time. Who doesn't like completely owning some noobs? The system is fine as it is, imo.
I hate galata with a burning passion on any game mode, except deathmatch :( I'm tempted to quit out if I see the vote swing that way :/ it's this games Alhambra and that map was awful. Knights hospital I enjoy, but the buildings are so tall that if a guy is on the roof with the artifact, you may as well forget him :(
I've been in plenty of lobbies that's full of Level 50s, and they still use gun/teleport or roof all the time; and I've been in lobbies full of 'noobs' who play quite well and I've had a challenge and a fun game. It's about the players themselves rather than the levels. :)
I Couldn't Agree More With You About Searching Youtube For Stratagies And Such. I Knew I Was Getting Battlefield 3 For Christmas, So I Looked Online About The Best Class, How To Use Each Class To The Full Use, And The Same With ACR, As Fr As Looking At Youtube For Stratagies. It Is Amazing To Me That People Wouldn't Use It As A Source Of Finding Out How To Play The Game Before Hand, So They Do Better When They First Start Playing The Game.
Off topic question: Is there any chance of another AC podcast at some point? It'd be interesting to hear what the Dev's have to say about the RDM & other issues in ACR, and if they've considered altering anything in the first few months since release.
I do agree that the runners and what not are very annoying but I think it's just another obstacle to overcome. If there are runners and roofers use knives and the gun if necessary to try and make them stop. That's what I do at least. Also if they are running and roofing then they wont get the points so think of that as a consolation.
Couldn't agree more. The free runners are almost impossible to catch unless you outrun them but that eliminates stealth. You have no means of easily stopping them and when combined with a 'roofy' map like Galata or Knights Hospital it just makes the game unenjoyable
Thing is nearly all my steal the artifact games are like this:/ two people who run around the map without stopping... It's sickening:( the gun is almost useless cause someone else could pick up the artifact before you get to it. Knives are useful but only if you are close:/ shame cause I enjoy this mode.
I am on pc and i played i think 50 hours. And what i've experienced there's less roofing and running than in brotherhood. there are less noobs and more good players.
To Esco: I've given this some thought. (Reverse Detection Meter)
Adding the reverse detection meter was a mistake. The Assassin's Creed series has always tried to add an element of reality to their games and making it so that you become more stealthy the longer you linger around your target is a long streach from reality. Roofy players didn't care about points in Brotherhood and are therefore unaffected by the changes to the meter. The best way to make them stop is to make them die more often.
personally, i think some game modes are meant for you to be "nooby"
modes like deathmatch and wanted and manhunt, really test your stealthy assassinating techniques and what-not but i swear to god, every time i play a game related to artifacts, most people just start running around like crazy, and to be honest it's not that bad, i mean, where else would i ever use a hidden gun, i like how for each game mode, you have to change your tactics to win
That was an impressively bad lobby, but still, also an impressive score.
I agree with most people that Steal the Artifact is just plain dumb. Every match I've tried ends up with the entire lobby running after the player with the artifact, who is sprinting full speed over the rooftops. Almost nobody even bothers hiding when they have the artifact and nobody even bothers scoring more than a Reckless when they're hunting.
Couldn't agree with you more on the whole PC players issue, as I am one of them. It pains me to see all of these level 50's run around like chickens with their heads decapacitated.I started watching You, Shenmue the rest of team 2012 several months ago, and you have all taught me how to play, so now I avg 6k in most modes, all with 6~7 kills, and then i see guys who get half my score with something like 12~17 kills. Its annoying and frankly makes the game all the more less enjoyable.
I think Shenmue said it best. Ubisoft created Steal the Artifact as a mode for superpros. It seems to be working since that mode as well as Artifact Assault require no stealth at all.
There are also some bad videos out on youtube. I was looking up some videos on ACB and this guy had the most retarded set I had ever seen. Fucking SPRINT BOOST and MOTHERFUCKING HIDDEN GUN. The entire video he was on the roof and the sad thing is that he won the match but I could get his score in 2 good 2X kills. he was level 17 so he could have used some decent skills but apparently that is how they play in asshole-land.
I understand your pain. I was an ACB PC player and learned the game from your vids even before it was released on PC. I don't play ACR MP or even ACB now because my uni internet has some strict policy about ports :(
Now about the other stuff, Steal The Artifact is the most frustrating game mode ever xD and it's quite weird how Xmas noobs are just oblivious about what to do, and some people stay like that for the rest of the year of ACR xD I would say that one of the reasons is that most of people that have to wait for Christmas to get the game are really really young, and maybe they don't really know about the huge amount of content on YouTube so they don't even think about searching videos about it.
@SantiagoTZ Some people might not worry that much about learning tactics and that stuff, maybe they wwant to find them by themselves or just play for fun, but I think a smart person would at least search some gameplay videos to see the mechanics of the game they're gonna get, what it looks like, if it looks fun or not for them, maybe after watching a video they can find it boring or just not their taste of game, or just to make sure that the game is good and they want it, oh well Xmas noobs...
I will never why people would run at people, getting a 100 pt Contested Kill might be the dumbest thing on planet, considering that you gain 0 ground in doing so. I know when I first got Brotherhood, after a few games looked up YouTube vids (which is how I found you and Team 2012) because I wanted to see what perks were the go to and how to screen out the people trying to kill me.
That Halo system you mentioned sounds really interesting actually, I never played Halo, only once I think in a friends house and I had no idea what was going on, but that system of "leveling" sounds pretty good in my opinino, I like the idea of being level 50 actually meaning skill, more than finding Xmas noobs or just gunners and roofers that got to level 50 after playing enough to get it with 4k per match.
I think part of the reason is that during the SP there really is no consequence with running around the rooftops as Ezio and then people just take that gameplay to MP with them. Hopefully people will start to learn how to rack up to get better kills and overall increase the enjoyment of the game for everyone. But there will always be bad players; in every game.
It is annoying, i am an extremely hogh lrestige and seeing it after christmas, wasnt fun, it was boring... i bought revelations for it to be different to Brotherhood, but you know getting a 13K steal the artifact can be all bad hahaha... But seriously of you are new and run around seriously listen to what people such as Esco have to say
Gaming constants, there will always be a multitude of newbs that don't care enough to learn to play the game well. This is why certain games with low skill ceilings can be so popular if done right. Just because they can learn doesn't mean they will.
It ain't that mate. It's the clear and striking difference between how to play properly in Single player and how to play in multiplayer. Ubisoft has a product in which if you play in the multiplayer the way that you do in the single player, you're playing it wrong or at the very least you're playing in a manner that is to the detriment of other people. It's why they made the running modes for these idiots.
Now you, me, and everyone else would prefer that it's not the case but there you go.
I wish I could tell people to go onto youtube to learn how to play and get better at games but with the teens of the new generation, they are just going to play games how they think it should be play, CoD most people I run into sit in corners or just camp. AC people I swear think they are playing the campaign and play like Ezio, running and jumping on roofs, it gets annoying seeing bad players in my AC games, they are actually tougher to play then the actual prestiges
Nice vid esco, but could you turn the white background on the word "escoblades" on the bottom right corner transparrent? so its just the word and no white background on it and maybe change it to be a little smaller too.
Mmm. I'd like a true skill cheat sheet, but I kinda dont. It would hinder ACR's MP, there are just too many issues with the system right now. At the same time I don't like having Prestige 4 next to my name because people auto-assume I'm awesome, and I'm not, I have bad, good and grief days. It does sound nice on paper though, but I think my level going down because I wanted to goof off would drive me nuts.
I'm really not sure how a trueskill system would be implemented properly in AC. You couldn't base it purely on kills/death/stun ratios since those are a bit more varied, and a lot of players are dependent on their abilities to be good, which makes it a bit difficult to track since a lot of abilities you don't unlock until later on.
And Esco, can I message you next time you're on skype? I've got a few multiplayer questions n such.
Hey Esco, thanks for the videos! I am an avid ACR player, and when I'm at work I watch multiplayer videos to gain strategy and the videos help so thank you. I know what you mean about being in a lobby with noobs but having to because of time constraints, I play alot of the time at 4-7 am, and there are low activity on all modes so you have to kind of take what you can get i suppose.
i restarted playing brotherhod in november last year and i was only level 13....and was appauled wen i was playing like 3 lvl 50 but was still coming first....and watching them sitting on roofs the whole game and running round like nutjobs on a murder spree just made me laugh so i think in every game that has a level system especially call of duty (due to the fact that u didnt even need to get a kill and u would get a match bonus) level is just a number and not skill rating
Well,I haven't reached 1st prestige yet, so I play lower levels all the time for all the xp towards Abstergo dossiers and videos. Don't know how to act like a NPC? FIST TO THE FACE! :D I wouldn't back out of a lobby if it is full of level 10's.
Would you still consider people Christmas noobs if they played BH? Or do you mean Christmas noobs as in bought Rev because it looked fancy and cool and now run around like chickens with their heads cut off?
@BladefullySwift: The latter. TRUE christmas noobs who never played Brotherhood, thought Revelations looked fancy and bought it, got into game, and tried to play it like CoD. LOL!
I agree I have played people who I have asked "why do you guys suck so bad" they said "WE, SUCK YOUR THE NOOB WITH THE LOW KDR!!" -_- esco they have watched youtube video's on this just not the right ones...
I think any system that would make matchmaking take longer would be the worst thing they could do. Sure it would be awesome in theory, but the matchmaking is horrible if you try to play with friends. I've spent over an hour just trying to get into a lobby.
@pinkd0g145: And there in lies the issue. If a game doesn't have a large enough playerbase to support skill based matchmaking, then it will fail hard. I don't think Ac MP is at that level just yet.
@Gbiese It's just surprising how few people play such a well put together multiplayer. I was just playing this weekend, trying to play steal the artifact after watching this video, and it just kept shifting me into deathmatch games. Sure deathmatch is fun, but i didn't want to play it, and I didn't have a choice.
So yeah, AC needs a larger player base before it can truly consider the addition of skill based matchmaking.
In reach the whole trueskill system was based entirely off an individuals performance, based on a ton of factors (not straight win/loss). However, the trueskill is under the hood, not shown as a number like in previous games. Your trueskill level still affected who you got matched up with, though, and because of the changes, it was probably more even than before.
@irurwurst it is already in use. I'm a vet from ACB, and when i started out, It put me in lobbies with noobs and such, but as i scored higher point matches I was also pinned up against higher level opponents. And I mean much Higher level. However, I really loved the ranking system they had in Brotherhood, with templar ranking and such.
@Anziously: I know plenty of players who score much higher than me, and still get matched up with noobs. The matchmaking is primarily geared to find the quickest available game, regardless of level parameters.
@Gbiese I'm not saying I don't get matched up with noobs now. But maybe they should as they did in Brotherhood. Player Matches for the quick lobbies and ranked for the balanced.
@Anziously: Maybe. But that can also split the playerbase in a way, especially if Player and Ranked were strictly implemented. But i agree that there should probably be a distinction.
Oh Christmas noobs you have to love them :-D! Strange that as I am watching your video you messaged me on facebook! I do like hopping into lobbies and smashing some Christmas noobs, but at the same time I am afraid I'm discouraging them from the game. I think everyone has to learn eventually though...
@L3gendary92: Exactly. I'd hope some of them would eventually get curious and hop on youtube to learn more about the game. At the same time, i reckon more than 60% of players that were on today were less than level 20. Crazy!
The trueskill system was made by microsoft, but Bungie tweaks it for their games themselves. In Halo Reach it is at its most altered from the default setup.

Off topic question: Is there any chance of another AC podcast at some point? It'd be interesting to hear what the Dev's have to say about the RDM & other issues in ACR, and if they've considered altering anything in the first few months since release.
Cheers. :D

I do agree that the runners and what not are very annoying but I think it's just another obstacle to overcome. If there are runners and roofers use knives and the gun if necessary to try and make them stop. That's what I do at least. Also if they are running and roofing then they wont get the points so think of that as a consolation.
blodden100 1 month ago
@blodden100: They may not be getting the points, but they sure as hell can starve everyone else of points. It is a domino effect.
Gbiese 1 month ago
Couldn't agree more. The free runners are almost impossible to catch unless you outrun them but that eliminates stealth. You have no means of easily stopping them and when combined with a 'roofy' map like Galata or Knights Hospital it just makes the game unenjoyable
KingHawkeye95 1 month ago
Thing is nearly all my steal the artifact games are like this:/ two people who run around the map without stopping... It's sickening:( the gun is almost useless cause someone else could pick up the artifact before you get to it. Knives are useful but only if you are close:/ shame cause I enjoy this mode.

I am on pc and i played i think 50 hours. And what i've experienced there's less roofing and running than in brotherhood. there are less noobs and more good players.
TheTrueJokay 1 month ago
To Esco: I've given this some thought. (Reverse Detection Meter)
Adding the reverse detection meter was a mistake. The Assassin's Creed series has always tried to add an element of reality to their games and making it so that you become more stealthy the longer you linger around your target is a long streach from reality. Roofy players didn't care about points in Brotherhood and are therefore unaffected by the changes to the meter. The best way to make them stop is to make them die more often.
Maximo540 1 month ago
I think most people buy AC games because of the storyline. Multiplayer is more like an add-on for them.
It does not look like singleplayer promotes stealth, all you do is hack and slash those poor guards all day, and people implement the tactics into MP.
SquirrelsFlyHigh 1 month ago in playlist The Essential EscoBlades Playlist
personally, i think some game modes are meant for you to be "nooby"
modes like deathmatch and wanted and manhunt, really test your stealthy assassinating techniques and what-not but i swear to god, every time i play a game related to artifacts, most people just start running around like crazy, and to be honest it's not that bad, i mean, where else would i ever use a hidden gun, i like how for each game mode, you have to change your tactics to win
higuy5121 1 month ago
That was an impressively bad lobby, but still, also an impressive score.
I agree with most people that Steal the Artifact is just plain dumb. Every match I've tried ends up with the entire lobby running after the player with the artifact, who is sprinting full speed over the rooftops. Almost nobody even bothers hiding when they have the artifact and nobody even bothers scoring more than a Reckless when they're hunting.
MovingOnDown 1 month ago
@MovingOnDown: yeah, sadly that's the way it is. And when given the choice to try a different mode, these players ALWAYS choose STA again. *sigh*
Gbiese 1 month ago

MegaOldnews 1 month ago
I understand your pain. I was an ACB PC player and learned the game from your vids even before it was released on PC. I don't play ACR MP or even ACB now because my uni internet has some strict policy about ports :(

Saying "hella annoying" is wicked annoying.
StuffandThings85 1 month ago
Now about the other stuff, Steal The Artifact is the most frustrating game mode ever xD and it's quite weird how Xmas noobs are just oblivious about what to do, and some people stay like that for the rest of the year of ACR xD I would say that one of the reasons is that most of people that have to wait for Christmas to get the game are really really young, and maybe they don't really know about the huge amount of content on YouTube so they don't even think about searching videos about it.
SantiagoTZ 1 month ago
@SantiagoTZ Some people might not worry that much about learning tactics and that stuff, maybe they wwant to find them by themselves or just play for fun, but I think a smart person would at least search some gameplay videos to see the mechanics of the game they're gonna get, what it looks like, if it looks fun or not for them, maybe after watching a video they can find it boring or just not their taste of game, or just to make sure that the game is good and they want it, oh well Xmas noobs...
SantiagoTZ 1 month ago
I will never why people would run at people, getting a 100 pt Contested Kill might be the dumbest thing on planet, considering that you gain 0 ground in doing so. I know when I first got Brotherhood, after a few games looked up YouTube vids (which is how I found you and Team 2012) because I wanted to see what perks were the go to and how to screen out the people trying to kill me.
ShadNick89 1 month ago
That Halo system you mentioned sounds really interesting actually, I never played Halo, only once I think in a friends house and I had no idea what was going on, but that system of "leveling" sounds pretty good in my opinino, I like the idea of being level 50 actually meaning skill, more than finding Xmas noobs or just gunners and roofers that got to level 50 after playing enough to get it with 4k per match.

eliwood509 1 month ago
I think part of the reason is that during the SP there really is no consequence with running around the rooftops as Ezio and then people just take that gameplay to MP with them. Hopefully people will start to learn how to rack up to get better kills and overall increase the enjoyment of the game for everyone. But there will always be bad players; in every game.
BlazingPhoenixX 1 month ago
It is annoying, i am an extremely hogh lrestige and seeing it after christmas, wasnt fun, it was boring... i bought revelations for it to be different to Brotherhood, but you know getting a 13K steal the artifact can be all bad hahaha... But seriously of you are new and run around seriously listen to what people such as Esco have to say
redneckbanana 1 month ago

ChouxPastri 1 month ago
I'm really not sure how a trueskill system would be implemented properly in AC. You couldn't base it purely on kills/death/stun ratios since those are a bit more varied, and a lot of players are dependent on their abilities to be good, which makes it a bit difficult to track since a lot of abilities you don't unlock until later on.
And Esco, can I message you next time you're on skype? I've got a few multiplayer questions n such.
Soundres 1 month ago
Hey Esco, thanks for the videos! I am an avid ACR player, and when I'm at work I watch multiplayer videos to gain strategy and the videos help so thank you. I know what you mean about being in a lobby with noobs but having to because of time constraints, I play alot of the time at 4-7 am, and there are low activity on all modes so you have to kind of take what you can get i suppose.

i restarted playing brotherhod in november last year and i was only level 13....and was appauled wen i was playing like 3 lvl 50 but was still coming first....and watching them sitting on roofs the whole game and running round like nutjobs on a murder spree just made me laugh so i think in every game that has a level system especially call of duty (due to the fact that u didnt even need to get a kill and u would get a match bonus) level is just a number and not skill rating
heysue531 1 month ago
Well,I haven't reached 1st prestige yet, so I play lower levels all the time for all the xp towards Abstergo dossiers and videos. Don't know how to act like a NPC? FIST TO THE FACE! :D I wouldn't back out of a lobby if it is full of level 10's.
Would you still consider people Christmas noobs if they played BH? Or do you mean Christmas noobs as in bought Rev because it looked fancy and cool and now run around like chickens with their heads cut off?

I think any system that would make matchmaking take longer would be the worst thing they could do. Sure it would be awesome in theory, but the matchmaking is horrible if you try to play with friends. I've spent over an hour just trying to get into a lobby.
pinkd0g145 1 month ago
@pinkd0g145: And there in lies the issue. If a game doesn't have a large enough playerbase to support skill based matchmaking, then it will fail hard. I don't think Ac MP is at that level just yet.
Gbiese 1 month ago
@Gbiese It's just surprising how few people play such a well put together multiplayer. I was just playing this weekend, trying to play steal the artifact after watching this video, and it just kept shifting me into deathmatch games. Sure deathmatch is fun, but i didn't want to play it, and I didn't have a choice.
So yeah, AC needs a larger player base before it can truly consider the addition of skill based matchmaking.
pinkd0g145 1 month ago
@Gbiese and also thanks for replying, most people don't do that any more :)
pinkd0g145 1 month ago
In reach the whole trueskill system was based entirely off an individuals performance, based on a ton of factors (not straight win/loss). However, the trueskill is under the hood, not shown as a number like in previous games. Your trueskill level still affected who you got matched up with, though, and because of the changes, it was probably more even than before.
irurwurst 1 month ago
@irurwurst: Do you think Trueskill could be implemented uccessfully in a game like Revelations or future AC multiplayer?
Gbiese 1 month ago
@irurwurst it is already in use. I'm a vet from ACB, and when i started out, It put me in lobbies with noobs and such, but as i scored higher point matches I was also pinned up against higher level opponents. And I mean much Higher level. However, I really loved the ranking system they had in Brotherhood, with templar ranking and such.
Anziously 1 month ago
@Anziously: I know plenty of players who score much higher than me, and still get matched up with noobs. The matchmaking is primarily geared to find the quickest available game, regardless of level parameters.
Gbiese 1 month ago
@Gbiese I'm not saying I don't get matched up with noobs now. But maybe they should as they did in Brotherhood. Player Matches for the quick lobbies and ranked for the balanced.
Anziously 1 month ago
@Anziously: Maybe. But that can also split the playerbase in a way, especially if Player and Ranked were strictly implemented. But i agree that there should probably be a distinction.
Gbiese 1 month ago
@Gbiese I know that's a problem, but now they have reduced the required players to 4 maybe it will help.

@Anziously
I don't think I ever said it was not used in Brotherhood, but maybe you were meaning to message Esco.

The trueskill system was made by microsoft, but Bungie tweaks it for their games themselves. In Halo Reach it is at its most altered from the default setup.
